“iFoster” to Help Find Homes for Animals via the Social Networks of the Fosters

Dearborn Animal Shelter Introduces “iFoster” to Help Find Homes for Animals
Innovative virtual campaign encourages individuals to assist on their own timeline
The Dearborn Animal Shelter in Michigan, continues to see a constant flow of homeless animals through its doors this year.  Traditional methods of finding homes for the adoptable animals are not keeping pace with the rate in which the Shelter needs to find adoptive homes for the pets in waiting.

To help increase the adoption success, a new program was recently launched to encourage supporters to help 24/7.  Elaine Greene, Executive Director, Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter commented “Many of the people looking for pets or supporting the Shelter are already frequent users of social media and the internet, so we thought this could be an easy step for them to help. Our team developed what we call iFoster, a virtual way for someone to help us promote an adoptable animal, using their own social media or email messages”.

The program is quite simple.  A supporter contacts the Shelter via email and indicates they are interested in becoming an iFoster.  A team member reaches out to them and sends a short email with a link to the photo and description of an adoptable pet.  Then, the supporter shares about that pet in their own social media, Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest, email, anywhere they share virtual messages.

Greene continued, “This is a great way for someone to get involved that doesn’t have time during the day to volunteer at the Shelter or the ability to adopt or foster an animal in their home.  All we are asking is for them to use their keyboard to share about the adoptable pet”.  Once the pet is adopted, a team member contacts the supporter to share the good news and inquire if they want to take another animal to iFoster.  Supporters can do so as often or as little as they choose.

If you are interested in becoming an iFoster, email iFoster@DearbornAnimals.org.   To learn more about adoption, events, volunteering or donating online, the Dearborn Animal Shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road, Dearborn, and is operated by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, a 501C3 nonprofit organization. You can also visit iFoster online

"Inquiring Minds Want to Know!!"

Hi and Happy Friday!

I am pleased to tell you that today's blog post is brought to you, thanks to Janet from (imagine this, a DOG BLOG!!) Janet's blog is Wag 'N Woof Pets and if you haven't visited it, please do! Mom got her Janets mixed up on my original post so blame the mistake on HER!  Anyway, thanks to Janet,  Mom is actually allowing me to blog!

As most of you know Mom is getting over some nasty sickie that she seems to have contracted somewhere along the way when she went to Atlanta for BarkWorld. She wasn't even going to allow me to blog, but she received some wonderful questions from Janet and decided to let me reply!

1) Are you glad to have Mom home? Are you kidding??!! OF COURSE! I waited and waited for a looong time, it seemed like furever! I was trapped here in "dog hell" with my Dad cooing, oohing and ahhhing over Sheltie boy! You know, as much as my Dad loves me, he is a secret card carrying member of "TEAM DOG!" To add insult to injury, my Mom takes off for an event called BARKWORLD? Seriously? What's wrong with this picture!? That being said, I knew when she returned she had some good stuff for me!

I smell SOMETHING!
Just not sure if it is awful woofie smells
or PRESENTS FOR ME!

Let me look  a little closer
there is SOMETHING
in here for me!
I KNOW IT!

Found it!
Mom brought home a super cool
"Love Glove"
for me
maybe one day she will
let me blog about it!

Check out Love Glove on
www.fourpaws.com

She also brought home laser lights for me!
The rest of the loot she shared with
Christina from Peace, Love & Whiskers

Now back to the questions!

2) Did you take care of Dakota or did he take care of you while she was gone?  Of course it was ME taking care of Dakota. I run the show around here with him. You know that Dakota is a neurotic mess. I try and teach him to be more like me, you know, "never let them see you sweat", don't let them know you missed them, will miss them or that you DO miss them! Keeps them on their toes, ya know? Sheltie Boy followed Dad at every turn. He's a "pack" kinda guy and he just couldn't keep it together, one of his PACK was missing and he was beside himself. He was a sniveling wreck! If it's possible, he barked even MORE! So much so that I STILL have a headache!

3) Did you both have to take care of Dad? Once again that was left up to ME! I don't know what Dad would have done without my 4am wake-up calls! When Mom is here I let everyone sleep a little longer, but with Dad here unsupervised, I was afraid if I didn't wake him up at 4am that we might NEVER EAT! I am sure Dad appreciated my reminders!!!
Dad did do the best that he could. He DID scoop my litter, he gave me my coconut oil every night, he did pet me, overall I think he did a FINE job but he couldn't have done it without me....but....my Mom has "cat mojo" and I needed her to come home, and FAST cause SHE understands me!

Janet, thanks so much for those great questions! (Sorry about the earlier mix-up, Mom was delirious with fever) So now all is right with my world. I have been taking great care of Mom while she has been sick, I have been sleeping next to her and staring at her, just to make sure she is ok, even Dakota has been taking good care of her.

Mom is home, all is good! She better NOT be going ANYWHERE!!

Stay tuned.........

With Sadness and Love, for Homer Blind Wondercat

Cody and I would like to share our love and sympathy with millions of others who are mourning the passing of a cat like no other, Homer Blind Wondercat.
Photo used with permission by Gwen Cooper

He was the cat of author Gwen Cooper who I first met on Twitter back in 2010. Homer's book, Homer's Odyssey  was also the first book I had reviewed on Cat Chat as well as, EVER.

My heart is hurting for Gwen, I don't have eloquent words to share, just my deepest sympathy and love.

Homer, THANK YOU for being a most AMAZING YOU, Gwen, thank you for sharing Homer with the world and teaching the public that not only do BLACK CATS make wonderful pets, but BLACK CATS, BLIND CATS and any cat with a disability is just as able to give and receive love as any cat can.

Our deepest love and sympathy,

Caren and Cody

"Stuff" on Sunday

Well, Mom dropped the ball again. She didn't find out until late yesterday when she was reading a number of blogs that she follows,  that yesterday was:

BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY
We hope that all of the horrible myths about Black Cats will vanish, once and for all!

For those that may not know, it was also International Homeless Animals Day and Mom DID help Dakota blog about that.

Mom and I just wanted to let you know that if we aren't around much for the next two weeks or so, we aren't being rude, there is just stuff going on.

Last October when Mom leased her new car, she misjudged how far she had to reach from inside the car while closing the door, and did something to her arm. It took her until APRIL to tell the doctor and at that time the doctor thought all was ok. Well, we aren't sure. Mom has A LOT of pain that travels to her shoulder. She can barely put a jacket on and some other things that are unmentionables, because of the pain.( If you are in the immediate vicinity of Mom, watch out, we don't want any "swinging objects" hitting you in the face MOL!) The pain comes and goes and when it is bad, it's BAD! Mom went back to the doctor the week before last and the doctor said Mom has a "frozen shoulder." (Which is not a surprise to Dad, he says Mom has been giving him the "cold shoulder" for quite some time now, but I digress). The doctor is sending Mom for  X-Rays on Monday and then she will be starting therapy next week (2 or 3 times a week for a month). Hopefully that will solve the problem, if not, Mom has to see an Orthopedist and she isn't thrilled!

Also....this week Mom is going to BarkWorld for the first time!

She is excited because it is thanks to Rachael Ray's Nutrish dog food that she gets to go (you can read about it on Dakota's blog on Monday) Not to worry kitties, Mom hasn't gone completely to the "dog side", she is going to be attending some events/sessions for kitties at BarkWorld too! Getting me, Dakota, Dad and two blogs ready for her departure has her pretty busy right now!

Mom is doing her utmost to visit everyone and catch up on emails, but in the event she isn't around as much as usual, she is doing her best!

In the meantime, have an "Easy" Sunday and enjoy this shot of my toesies!

Love, Cody

Precious Abby.....

Photo used from Manx Mnews
Abby, please watch over your dear Mama from Heaven. Her heart is broken. You will be deeply missed precious girl. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.

Poem For Cats
And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Vote for #Cat-Door in #Walmart Contest!

Hi my furiends and Happy Tuesday!

Back in April of 2012, I had the pleasure of being the first of the kitty bloggers to blog about a super cool product called the Cat-Door.

The folks that created the Cat-Door live in Michigan and had come over to my house and installed it for me!

It is one of my favorite things! I love to peek out at Dakota and drive him insane because he can't get to me! The bristles on top comb my fur, and even when Mom shuts the door to our "office", I can still come in!

My furiend Jim, from  Cat-Door  recently gave me a meow-out and asked if I could help spread the word that they are in an EXCITING CONTEST!  If their product (Cat-Door) wins, they get to sell it at Walmart!!! Isn't that cool??

So what do you think my friends? Can you please vote for my buddy Jim so that he can sell his catabulous Cat-Door at Walmart?

Meghan, Jim and Makaylah
say THANK YOU!!!
PLEASE VOTE!

We would be thrilled for him if he won!

You can vote by clicking on his

  ENTRY

YOU CAN VOTE ONCE A DAY UNTIL THE CONTEST ENDS ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2013.

THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!

Advanced Natural Litter made by World's Best Cat Litter-Enter to Win! #WBCL

Hi every furry! If you have been traveling around the Blog-o-sphere you have probably been seeing a vast assortment  of fine kitties talking about the newest member of the World's Best Cat Litter family: Advanced Natural.

Being one of the original "Catvocates" for World's Best, it makes me happy to see other kitties jumping on board!

Long before I became a "Catvocate" for World's Best, I was using their litter. I have tried nearly every variety that they offer, and love them all. I recently tried new Advanced Natural and I am pleased to say it lived up to my expectations.

The new ADVANCED NATURAL SERIES by World's Best has:

More powerful odor control.

It makes smaller clumps (no scraping the bottom of the litterbox needed!.)

It also has no airborne silica dust.

The Advanced Natural Series comes in two formulas:

Original

Pine Scented

From World's Best:

The newest addition to the World's Best Cat Litter™ product family isn't just an addition to their whole-kernel corn line-up. It's an entirely new litter that uses a blend of naturally absorbent plant fibers to meet customer demand for high performance clumping.

Advanced Natural will be offered exclusively at independent pet stores and PETCO®. Advanced Natural will be offered in Original and Pine Blend formulas in 6, 12, and 24 pound bags.
World's Best Cat Litter™ researched customer expectations and found overwhelming demand for a litter that delivers better clumping for fast and easy cleanup. The brand's litter development team tested countless ingredients before arriving at an Advanced Natural formulation that harnesses the natural absorbency of a special plant fiber blend.
The Advanced Natural Series joins the Original Series in drawing on a patented process that allows World's Best Cat Litter™ ingredients to be compressed into tight granules that deliver concentrated power.

World's Best Cat Litter™ will now consist of an Original Series made up of Clumping, Multiple Cat Clumping, Lavender Scented Multiple Cat Clumping and Forest Scented Clumping formulas and the new Advanced Natural Series, which is made up of the Original and Pine Blend formulas.

GIVE-AWAY:The kind people at World's Best are offering ONE of my readers who LIVES IN THE U.S. the chance to win a bag of either the Original scent or Pine. (18 and over please)
THE GIVE-AWAY is OPEN NOW and will end on Monday, August 26th at 5pm. The winner (as chosen by random.org) will be announced on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28TH.
TO ENTER: leave a comment telling me if you prefer to try the Original Scent or Pine Scented litter, that's it!

Good luck!
"Catvocate Cody" signing off,
it't time to use the litter!

Easy Sunday: "Daily Yoga For a Happy and Healthy Cat" by Shri Swami Sattvapurrrrrananda, aka "Swami Zoe" Photography by Julianne Victoria

Happy Sunday my furiends!

I have always considered myself to be one pretty laid back kinda guy. Nothin' much rattles me. I take meds like a champ, I don't "sing" and claw on my way to the V-E-T, the "sucky monster?", fughet about it, he barely fluffs my fur! I just kinda take things in stride and go with the flow. As long as there is a bowl of food after any aggravation that life throws my way, then I'm happy!

Being a rather "zen" kitty myself, my interest was piqued when presented with the oppawtunity of reading Daily Yoga For a Happy and Healthy Cat by my furiend Shri Swami  Sattvapurrrrrananda ( hey if it's misspelled don't blame me, I'm not the typist and that is ONE mouthful! Thankfully she is also known also known as, Swami Zoe.)

I was eager to get my paws on this, after all, I'm HAPPY, HEALTHY (knock on wood, whatever that means, my Mom told me to say it!), and I am a CAT! I figured that learning Yoga would be another tool I can use to continue being the laid-back kinda mancat that I am!

On the first page of the book I read:

"If one stretches completely, one relaxes completely. Look at a cat, a master of stretching and a master of relaxation." -B.K.S. lyengar, Light on Life.

For kitties out there that might be experiencing more than their share of stress and for those like me, that are more of the laid-back type, this book is right up your alley!

It is also a book that your humans can enjoy right along with you! Have THEM get down on all fours, stretch those legs, have them show THEIR bellehs! It will be a catabulous bonding experience for both of you! That being said, I don't think my Mom could do these poses because her belleh is so big that if she gets down on the floor she may never get up, but I digress....

I suggest you light some incense, grab a sunpuddle or go to your favorite cozy spot, grab a snuggly blanket and you are all set to put some of the moves that are shown in this book into practice!

Daily Yoga For a Happy and Healthy Cat features poses that cats ALREADY are masters at and puts names to them such as:

Balasana (kitten pose)

Sphinx Asana (Sphinx pose)

Anandamarjari Asana (happy cat pose) (which is one I do all of the time)

and it tells you when and what these poses are best suited for.

From Daily Yoga For a Happy and Healthy Cat: Keeping the body clean inside and outside is an important part of living a yogic lifestyle. Regular bathing and adequate hydration and nutrition are necessary to cleanse and nourish our perfectly beautiful feline temples!

No worries! Those are things that kitties just instinctively know! This  sweet and sometimes funny handbook is one that you will want to keep close-to-your-paws when you feel you just need a little break from the outside world.  The poses in this book may be practiced in any sequence and combination and for any length of time! At first, some of the poses might appear to be hard but with practice you should be able to perform them quite easily!

Daily Yoga for a Happy and Healthy Cat is a sure way to start your "Easy Sunday" off on the right paw!

A portion of the book sales will be donated to animal rescue.

A Special Thank you!!

Hi every furry it's Cody!

While reading my email last Sunday, I found a LOVELY thank you photo from my dear furiend, Nellie!

Be sure to visit
Nellie on her blog!!!

If you visited my blog last Friday you know that my furiend Nellie came by to visit! If you missed that post you can read about it here.

It was super kind of Nellie to make me that photo and I love it!

While I am feeling sentimental I just want to THANK ALL OF YOU for being such good blogging furiends! It hasn't been the best of summers for my Mom for a variety of reasons, and you ALL bring both Mom and I more smiles on days that we need it, MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE!

So....THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU for being here! Without YOU, there wouldn't be US!!

Love, Cody and Caren
