Cats! "Beam Up" with the Jackson Galaxy® Space Station from Petmate (Give-Away!)

Disclosure from Cody: no green papers exchanged paws for this review. I received a Jackson Galaxy Space Station by Petmate in exchange for my always honest review! Neither Petmate or Jackson Galaxy is responsible for anything I meowed during this review.

Hi my kitty furiends! It's Cody handling just PART of the review duties today! Today I have a special furiend who is helping me out and wait til you meet him! As many of you know, I have been blogging for nearly 8 years now (wow my paws are TIRED!!), and throughout that time I have been reviewing/featuring, (Mom too, when it has been applicable),  toys, books, TV shows,  and special philanthropic causes AND MORE, that a certain special "Cat Daddy" has been a part of. This special purrson needs no introduction, but in the event that you are living under a bag of kitty litter and don't know who he is, this special purrson is Jackson Galaxy. Years ago I reviewed a few of his toys and recently I reviewed another.  Today I will be sharing with you the second one that I received.  It is from the:

Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate®

Share A Better World With Your Cat

"Cats who play are naturally more confident in their territorial ownership, meaning they will be happier and better behaved. The Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate® taps directly into their natural instincts to bring out their best."

Today, I am presenting  to you  the Jackson Galaxy® Space Station . Normally when Mom needs me to review something, I am not always the most cooperative cat in town, but when this item came I IMMEDIATELY went to scope it out!

Jackson Galaxy® Space Station

The Jackson Galaxy® Space Station is sure to keep your cat active and entertained! This exciting new product has multiple openings so that your cat can hunt the ball from inside or outside the elevated Space Station bowl. The deep, high-walled bowl features a replaceable scratch pad on the bottom and is deep enough to allow your cat to stalk, pounce, and play. With so much to offer, the Jackson Galaxy® Space Station is perfect for single or multi-cat households.

MEET OUR GUEST REVIEWER!!!

Now while I DID use the Space Station the first day it arrived, I haven't used it since. Nope. I believe in being completely honest. My not using the Space Station since the first day has NOTHING to do with the toy. "I'm a cat. I use things when I WANT TO. I don't use them on DEMAND, got that Mom?" Mom says it's me. I am now 10 years old and sometimes I don't play with things as readily as I used to. Mom says I am just downright lazy.  I say, "that I am more of a catnip and wand toy kind of a guy and that I rarely use any of my "tracker" toys."

That being said we DO know of a kitty whose Mama had bought this toy and he LOVES it! His name is Olaf and he is two years old. He was adopted from the Tigerlily Cat Rescue here in Michigan, and he is the kitty of Kimberly who happens to work at our Vet (also known as "Dr.Smiley's Evil Laboratory!!!").  When Mom and Dad took Dakota in last week for his shots, Mom was talking to Kimberly about her kitties, and this toy came up. Kimberly mentioned she had bought the Space Station for her cats and that Olaf just LOVES it!!! Kimberly was kind enough to share the video with us, we hope you enjoy it!

Isn't he just the cutest????? Thank you Kimberly and Olaf!!!  Olaf is on Instagram too so you can follow him!! Mom says it's nice to see a cat who ISN'T LAZY play, and she LOVES that he LOVES THIS TOY!!!  I LOVE this toy too, but listen up Olaf my new pal, "when you are ten years old like me and get tired of YOUR Mom following you around with a camera all day, you might be less cooperative too, just sayin......"

GIVE-AWAY!!

Kitties! If your human resides in the U.S. and is 18 and over and can enter for you, you could be the LUCKY WINNER of the Jackson Galaxy® Space Station from Petmate!! (An approx $31 value!!)  Entering is super easy, just enter on the Rafflecopter below and good luck!!!

Jackson Galaxy is the host and executive producer of Animal Planet’s hit show, My Cat From Hell, currently entering its sixth season. He has dedicated his life to promoting a compassionate world for all animals and, with the establishment of the Jackson Galaxy Foundation, is intensifying his work toward the ultimate goal of achieving a “no-kill” reality in the U.S. and beyond. Cat Toy: "Go Fish" from The Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate® (Review and Give-Away!)

Disclosure from Cody: no green papers exchanged paws for this review. I received a Jackson Galaxy Go Fish by Petmate in exchange for my always honest review! Neither Petmate or Jackson Galaxy is responsible for anything I meowed during this review.

Hi my kitty furiends! It's Cody handling the review duties today! I have been blogging for nearly 8 years now (wow my paws are TIRED!!), and throughout that time I have been reviewing/featuring, (Mom too, when it has been applicable),  toys, books, TV shows,  and special philanthropic causes AND MORE, that a certain special "Cat Daddy" has been a part of. This special purrson needs no introduction, but in the event that you are living under a bag of kitty litter and don't know who he is, this special purrson is Jackson Galaxy. Years ago I reviewed a few of his toys and today marks the first day  of a few special items that I will be sharing with you over the next few weeks, (and giving away to you if you are lucky!). These items are from the:

Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate®

Share A Better World With Your Cat

"Cats who play are naturally more confident in their territorial ownership, meaning they will be happier and better behaved. The Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate® taps directly into their natural instincts to bring out their best."

The first item I am going to present to you is the Jackson Galaxy Go Fish Cat Toy  . Normally when Mom needs me to review something, I am not always the most cooperative cat in town, but when this item came I IMMEDIATELY went to scope it out!

Jackson Galaxy Go Fish
Jackson Galaxy™ Go Fish is a self-activating play cat toy that truly satisfies your cat’s hunting instincts and keeps him engaged for hours and hours of stimulating fun! Jackson demonstrates how to place cat treats throughout the Go Fish pegs to keep your cat busy with this puzzle toy. This dishwasher-safe toy is versatile and doubles as a slow-feed bowl!
Now, here is Jackson to tell you more about it!

Let me tell you kitties I LOVE this toy!! Leave it to my crotchety Mama to have only ONE tiny complaint. She said it was extremely hard to get the fishies into the holes (now remember, this is MY Mama talking, the rest of you probably have humans who aren't as "challenged" as my Mama is.). While Mom was trying to put the fishies in the hole, I heard HBO words kitties that would knock your white socks off (if you are kitties with white paws that double as socks!). Once my brainiac Mom stopped muttering profanities while trying to put the adorable little fish in the holes, I was FINALLY able to ENJOY and LOVE my toy!!

See? I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! (Oh and that comfy looking clam shell bed that you see in these photos? We are going to be having a give-away for that too on August 4th!!).......the photos below will show you that the Jackson Galaxy Go Fish Cat Toy is A LOT of FUN and kept me busy!

This toy is SUPER PAWESOME!!!!!!! If it involves food, I'm all over it! Mom says it is a good way to keep me from inhaling eating my treats and kibble too fast which is my normal preferred style of eating! What can I say? I take my treats and food seriously!!

GIVE-AWAY!!

Kitties! If your human resides in the U.S. and is 18 and over and can enter for you, you could be the LUCKY WINNER of the Go Fish cat toy from The Jackson Galaxy™ Collection by Petmate® !! Entering is super easy, just enter on the Rafflecopter below and good luck!!!

Cat Book Review: "the Inner Life of Cats" by Thomas McNamee (Give-Away!)

(The Science and Secrets of Our Mysterious Feline Companions)
Cover Courtesy of Thomas McNamee

FROM THE INNER LIFE OF CATS WEBSITE:

Our feline companions are much-loved but often mysterious. In The Inner Life of Cats, Thomas McNamee blends scientific reportage with engaging, illustrative anecdotes about his own beloved cat, Augusta, to explore and illuminate the secrets and enigmas of her kind.

As it begins, The Inner Life of Cats follows the development of the young Augusta while simultaneously explaining the basics of a kitten's physiological and psychological development. As the narrative progresses, McNamee also charts cats' evolution, explores a feral cat colony in Rome, tells the story of Augusta's life and adventures, and consults with behavioral experts, animal activists, and researchers, who will help readers more fully understand cats.

McNamee shows that with deeper knowledge of cats' developmental phases and individual idiosyncrasies, we can do a better job of guiding cats' maturation and improving the quality of their lives. Readers' relationships with their feline friends will be happier and more harmonious because of this book.

FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY

Beautifully written,  the Inner Life of Cats by Thomas McNamee begins when kitten Augusta was found wandering in the snow. It follows Augusta's life from kittenhood, to becoming a full-fledged cat, her death and how life and love continue on with the arrival of another kitty, "Isabel" whom this book is dedicated to. Experiences in Augusta's life, her development, quirks, feline characteristics and more are accompanied by extensively researched scientific studies, essays and more that are provided by Thomas McNamee. The book is heavy with facts/history and lighter on the actual story of Augusta's life.

I have to confess, while overall I enjoyed this book, my favorite parts were the parts where Thomas shares experiences and details about his beautiful black cat Augusta.  It was so heartfelt and beautiful, that I could have read an entire book that was focused entirely on Augusta. Now, that is MY opinion. Many of you will appreciate the ENORMOUS amount of research and documentation that went into the Inner Life of Cats in order to bring you detailed results of scientific studies, etc. I am NOT a scientific person and my mind tends to completely shut off when presented with many facts. Many of YOU who have more of a scientific/detailed mind than I do will greatly appreciate that. I wanted more Augusta.

Now, don't get me wrong there was MUCH that I learned (and had confirmed) when I read this book. "The sensitive period of socialization for cats to people is from two to seven weeks of age." I had long thought that part of the reason for Cody's affable, flexible, friendly, confident, loving and trusting nature was that he received a ton of early socialization from his foster mom. I was right!

For those of you deeply immersed in the world of feral cats, you will LOVE the detailed information that is provided in this book. You will find the pros/cons of feral cats/colonies and more.

Being a long time fan of Jackson Galaxy, there are also numerous pages devoted to Jackson, his extensive experience in educating owners about how to correct unwanted cat behavior, and his esteemed title of being "The King of Cat Whisperers."

ON LOVING A NEW CAT AFTER LOSING AUGUSTA:

"All over the world, cats are coming into people's lives all day, kittens, middle-aged cats, old cats, damaged cats, grouchy cats, placid cats, cats sleek as otters, bony cats, fat cats, suspicious, trusting, restless, scaredy, fuzzy, fizzy, timid, foolish, crazy, cool. Wanted, unwanted, somewhere in between. Some will be abused, some ignored, many misunderstood. Some will be lonely, some will be sad, some will run away and be run over, some will sicken and die. Some will never know a day that isn't happy, full of birds and children's chatter or timeless and serene. Nearly all will love someone."

"Their lives are shorter than ours. We can witness their lives from beginning to end, not just witness but BE IN them, from naming to knowing, from wonder to love, an arc, and then-now-another. We can, we must mean to be kind. "Let us not be weary," wrote Paul to the Galatians, "in well doing." Every day of her life, the kitten and the cat she becomes will make the effort worth our while."

If you are on this blog, you more than likely LOVE CATS. I urge you to pick up a copy of this beautifully written and superbly researched book which will increase your understanding of the fabulous feline(s) who shares your life, and help to enhance the lives that you share together.

Coloring Book Featuring Cats:Cooking With Cats (A Curious Combo of Cats, Cupcakes & Colors) by Jess Erskine and a Give-Away!

From the moment I first read about Cooking With Cats (A Curious Combo of Cats, Cupcakes & Colors), by the talented Jess Erskine, on the fabulous  Pet Lady Blog, I was intrigued.  I LOVE to cook, I LOVE cats and I LOVE to color, so it was a no-brainer. I HAD to have this book!

Cooking With Cats – is a quirky mashup of cats, cookery and cuisine, and contender for the Most-Ridiculously-Wonderful-Coloring-Book-About-Cats-of-All-Time.
Cooking With Cats contains 25 scenes of cats cavorting in the kitchen and pretending to be a variety of gourmet foods. Coloring fans have the opportunity to color sushi cats, cupcake cats, hotdog cats, ice cream cats, and coffee cats in all their furry glory.
I KNEW I HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK!!!

So, I reached out on Facebook practically begging for a chance to review/color this darling book and Jess's Dad, Jim, was happy to oblige!

First, when I opened the book and saw the sketch of Cody that Jess had surprised me with, I nearly DIED!!! Oh how she captured Cody's "cranky" expression!!!

I LOVE how Jess wrote the caption of "Color me unimpressed..." that is ohhh sooo Cody!!!! I wonder if she knows just how FOOD OBSESSED Cody is? (Well, for that matter, I am too, but I digress...).......

The drawings in this book are precious and in my opinion, to not lose the quality of the actual drawing, I would strongly suggest using COLORED PENCILS for this book. (Yes, I know I am not normally a fan of coloring with colored pencils AT ALL, but with this book I wish I had them to enable me to do the sort of shading that I would like to do, while maintaining the integrity and beauty of Jess's original sketches.) The sketches of the cats in particular have lovely detail that I think colored markers (which I used on my page that I colored), ruins that. I am going to go out and get some colored pencils soon, before I color pages in the rest of the book. I want my coloring to not take away from Jess's talent. Below you will see the page that I colored with markers:

I think my coloring above, would look MUCH better had it been done with colored pencils. Also, there are scrumptious looking donuts, tacos, spaghetti, ice cream and so much more to color, and...you know ME, I AM SERIOUS ABOUT MY FOOD and I must make the food look as delectable as Jess's drawings, and I think using colored pencils will enable me to do that. The kitties that Jess has drawn  in this book are so beautifully sketched, that many of them look not only ready to be colored by YOU, but they look like you just might want to CUDDLE them as well!

Here is a sample page, (all of the sample pages may be downloaded and printed so that YOU can have fun coloring them too!)  so you can see what I mean:

MEET JESS ERSKINE

How did you come up with the idea for COOKING WITH CATS?
My dad thought of it first, so I stole it from him and ran with it… mashing cats together with every kind of food I love, like cupcakes and coffee and sushi and cinnamon buns. It’s hard to look at this coloring book without your mouth watering.
Jess and Morty. Photo Courtesy of Cooking With Cats

Do you have any cats of your own?
I do. Morty is my favorite cat of all time, and he knows it. But he’s also a butt. He’s packed full of attitude and spice, and was the model for some of the pages in COOKING WITH CATS. His favorite activities are attacking legs, chasing bugs, hide and seek, naps, and watching “The Office” with me. But he’s still a butt.
Morty as inspiration on left,
you can download the page to color
and on the right,
is Jess's drawing of Morty
that is actually the back cover of the book

Are any of your drawings mean to cats?
Well, a little DEmeaning maybe… but no, they are not mean or cruel. And if they were, I wouldn’t admit it anyway. For instance, there is Sushi Cat, who is wrapped up in some sushi. But did I cut him up? No. As you can see in his picture, he’s just an excellent food cosplayer.

Do you really eat food with cat hair in it?
Not knowingly. However, I recently had a tonsillectomy and I still can’t taste anything. So I wouldn’t know if I did. But I’d say I probably have recently.
Where can people find your book?
They can find it at RollingDonutPress.com or on Amazon. There’s also lots of pictures from the book to check out on our Facebook page, facebook.com/cookingwithcats
How pretty is Jess? She is GORGEOUS!!

Before pursuing illustration full time, Jess worked as a restaurant manager, goldsmith, videographer, and did contract work for several local theaters.
When she isn’t nose-deep in illustration, these days Jess can be found playing with her hellion cat Morty, collaborating with her dad Jim Erskine, striving for the highest Tetris score and searching for the world’s best donuts.

Cat Coloring Book! Lazy-Ass Cats, A Coloring Book for Adults! (Snoozing & Boozing Kitties to Color and Relax)

"Adult coloring books are one of the hottest trends in publishing right now. Nielsen Bookscan estimates that 12 million of the books were sold in the United States last year, a 1200% increase over the year before."

When I received an email back in 2016 asking if I would be interested in reviewing the coloring book for adults, Lazy-Ass Cats (Snoozing & Boozing Kitties to Color and Relax),  I IMMEDIATELY said yes based on the title alone.

The title completely cracked me up. It is HILARIOUS and right up my alley! Snarky humor is my thing and this coloring book intrigued me. Not to mention,  Cody,  is BEYOND lazy. This book had our names written all over it!
The coloring on the left
was done by me!

The Kickstarter campaign  has earned pledges seven times larger than the original fundraising goal!!

Created by Lindsay Conner, she is  "blown away" by the public response, "I thought it might be popular, but I had no idea how friends, family, and strangers would rally behind this idea."

FROM LINDSAY CONNER:"I love my cat Murph. But, let's face it. He's a lazy ass. I guess that's why I got another cat that acts just like him, but she's a girl. I just love 'em. I scratch their little feline faces after they've done nothing worthwhile all day. I top off their food bowl with expensive new kibble, even when there's plenty there. When I just want to lay on the couch at the end of the day, having battled toddler tantrums, endless errands, and freelance deadlines, I leave a spot on the cushy blanket, right on top of my tired legs, for the laziest members of our family."

"I have to admit that I often get stressed out by crazy-detailed coloring pages. I treat them like a chore that has to be done, rather than a blank canvas to be explored. That's why these designs are straight to the point, and not overly complicated. Use your own shading on these cute line drawings, add your own details, and draw in your own cats if you'd like."

This page was colored by me and as Lindsay said above, I was able to shade the cat the way that I wanted it to appear. Because I had time, I added more shading throughout. She suggests using colored pencils, but my preferred medium happens to be markers!! The markers I used for this coloring page came from  an amazing pack of markers that I had bought at Ace Hardware (of all places!!).  The price for them was $25 and they were worth every penny!

There are 40 adorable and clever coloring pages in this book.  I LOVE  that there are NO BACK-TO-BACK DESIGNS....(when you use markers as I do, that is ESPECIALLY GOOD!!! So there is no bleeding through on the page behind the page you are coloring.)  The designs are printed on crisp, thick paper.

The page you see above I also colored, but I rushed coloring it much more than I did on the one you saw further up the page. I still was able to give it some of my own "personal touches." I just love this book! Some of the pages have quotes, some do not.  Some pages have wryer humor, other pages are sweeter. There is a mix of vertical and horizontal photos which was a conscious decision by Lindsay, so that people coloring would not get bored.  Lazy-Ass Cats is "the coloring book for people who don't like to color", cat lovers, and those who might THINK they won't like to color, but wait...they will!!

While MY "lazy ass cat" is doing what HE does BEST, (being LAZY!!)  YOU can visit LazyAssCats.com to download free bonus coloring pages!
