Cat Reflects on "Thanks" and "Giving"

Hi my furiends! Today I pushed Mom away from the computer because I wanted to take the time to mew to you about a few things.

I may spend a large portion of my day sleeping, but during the time I am awake I am quite observant. Not much gets past me. As we are approaching the end of 2017 I have noticed that our world seems to be much colder, harder, and frightening than ever before. I watch my Mom when she turns on the TV every morning muttering (or crying) about yet another awful event that has taken place. Many of these events pertain to humans lashing out at each other, but often it is also humans lashing out at animals. This makes me sad. I don't want to become a fearful cat, I want to remain brave, strong and positive, so today I think it is important that I let you know about some things in my every day life that I am thankful for. Ready? Pull up your favorite pillow, grab a treat, and let's begin!

MOM AND DAD

Ok, I am going to make this part super quick because I don't want them to get a swelled head or anything, (but they ARE the ones who pawchase and distribute my daily sustenance so I must pay homage to them),I am EXTREMELY grateful for my Mom and my Dad. Mom was the one who first found me at an adoption event ten years ago at our local pet store. Mom called Dad and said "I found a special kitty that I want to adopt.", the rest is history. Dad, what can I say? My Dad is a champ. Every morning without fail I wake him up at 4am (give or take an hour either way) and suggest DEMAND that he feed me.

Ok all of you kitties with catios and NORMAL homes, you can stop laughing now! For some of us, this is as good as it gets. Yeah, I'm up high, not the best for squirrel watching but last I looked, BIRDS DO FLY!! Now I know the reason. the powers that be gave birdies wings so  that view deprived cats such as myself can still see them!  Sometimes in life you just gotta make the best out of what you have and be THANKFUL that you have it!

 Furiends you can once again STOP LAUGHING! YES I AM enjoying how "Dr.Smiley" was petting me in that photo. He is kind and gentle and remember kitties and woofies, I said that sometimes you just have to be THANKFUL and look for the good in EVERY situation! "Dr.Smiley" takes good care of me and keeps me healthy. To me that's a pretty darned good reason to have a blissful look on my face!

MY WOOFIE BROTHER

Yep I love him. I truly do. Hey if it weren't for Dakota I would never have gotten involved in this Nutrish gig, capisce???? Ok, in all seriousness, my woofie brother and I enjoy each other, we play chase, we watch TV, we have some serious conversations that are top secret! And...once again, if it weren't for Dakota I wouldn't have:

I hope you liked my list of all of the things I am thankful for. There are many, many more but I know that you have better things to do than to sit around reading my list all day. Hi my furiends both furry and non. It's Cody, and today I am taking over the blog from Mom because I have some things that I need to meow about. I am feeling rather philosophical, so I hope you will indulge me! I am nine years old now. I have spent nine years observing, as well as thinking.

This week the U.S. will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  If you look at the word closely, it isn't just a proper noun, the action of giving thanks is a verb. .  The word Thanksgiving is made up of "Thanks" and Giving."  

From what I have observed, it seems that many humans spend more time preparing for THE DAY AFTER Thanksgiving (Black Friday, which my Mom and I happen to hate, we think it should be called "Greed Friday", but I digress....), than preparing for and celebrating what Thanksgiving is SUPPOSED to be about. A day of giving thanks for all that we have, and if you want to break it down further, for GIVING to others.

It makes me sad when I see humans not acknowledging that. To many humans, it seems that Thanksgiving is nothing more than a bump in the road to get over in order to celebrate the "real" holidays...Christmas..........and this year because it happens to fall at the same time as  Christmas, Chanukah. (Chanukah often falls right after Thanksgiving and a few times it has fallen right ON Thanksgiving).

Each year it seems that Thanksgiving gets pushed further into the background. This year I am putting my paw down and saying "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!"  Hang tight for just a few more days humans!!!  You will be "fa-la-la-la-la'ing" and "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel'ing" before you know it!!! But for now....

GIVE THANKS!!!

Kitties!!!!! I am purring with excitement about the goodies that I have to share with you today! As many of you know, I am one of a clowder of Ambassacats for NEW NUTRISH FOR CATS! That makes me purr with pride!

Our family has been a Nutrish family since Nutrish for Dogs first appeared on the market in 2008. My Sheltie brother,  Dakota has been eating it ever since, he is also a proud Ambassadog for the Nutrish brand!! (Dakota was eating Nutrish long before he had a blog, his blog didn't begin until 2011 and mine started in 2009). I had felt left out for quite some time, until Rachael Ray announced that she  had created Nutrish for Cats!

For the last month or so I was lounging around staring out the window and  sunning myself, and I began wondering when I would hear from Mission Control at Nutrish to let me know when my next  mission would be. I began pacing with anticipation! I wanted to share all of the goodness that is Nutrish for Cats with my kitty furiends!!  Kitties, I didn't have to wait long! One day when I was purrticularly hungry I heard a knock at the door. Look what arrived!

I wondered out loud, WHAT COULD THIS BE? This was one of MANY times that I wished I had thumbs to open this!  I KNEW it had to be good! I ran to get Mom and she helped me open the box, it was like CHRISTMAS  Chanukah in JULY!!!!  (what do you expect, I'm a Jewish kitty!!!)

The jars on the right had brown rice for Mom so that she could make a delish dinner for she and Dad (Dinner for Two),  and a cat nip toy for me!!!

I knew I had to start washing my paws so that I could jump right in!
Everything was packaged in that pawsome shopping bag that you see to the right above!  Mom was disappointed that I didn't play with the toy or the bag much:



 True to form, I was much more interested in the FOOD than I was in the bag OR the toy, but we all know I am all about the FOOD! Especially when it is Nutrish For Cats that we're talkin' about!!!   The heck with cat toys and empty paper bags, just GIVE ME MY NUTRISH FOR CATS!

Before I was purrmitted to eat my Lip Smackin' Sardine & Mackerel that has

delicious chunks of sardines and mackerel in an irresistible sauce with added vitamins, minerals and taurine, Mom said that this was a special day and I had to wear my bow tie for the occasion.

Because I received the Real Salmon and Brown Rice bag of dry food, Mission Control provided my Mom with a recipe to make for she and Dad that also featured REAL SALMON AND BROWN RICE! It was called the SMOKY MAPLE GLAZED SALMON SUPPER and you can find the recipe HERE!!!  

Watching Mom prepare for, and then make the recipe was when the show REALLY started!! Mom considers herself to be a good cook, she really is, but she rarely follows recipes to the letter. Mom was nervous because 2 different stores didn't have watercress, she bought the wrong size carrots, she dumped (yes, I said DUMPED), too many peas into the frying pan, AND the brainiac forgot that Mission Control had sent her brown rice, so she used HER OWN!  Oh, the recipe also calls for the skin to be REMOVED from the salmon (before cooking!), what did Mom do? She left it on!!! Well guess what, Dad said that this was the BEST salmon that Mom has EVER MADE!! Mom said that even minus the watercress and the skin being on the salmon (the skin developed an amazing, delicious, crispy, maple yumminess!) that the dish was FANTASTIC!! This one is a keeper! Ok, Mom said because this dish came out so perfectly and the flavor was to die for, she wants you to see a GOOD photo of the plated meal!

Hi every furry! It's Cody!

Lately I have had  a lot on my mind, and today I would like to share it with you!
