Cody channels Geraldo Rivera in honor of National #Hairball Awareness Day! Enter to win a FURminator® of your own!

The last Friday in April (which is April 26 in 2013) is designated as a time to recognize the hazards of hairballs and take steps to eliminate them.

Nasty and dangerous hairballs don’t have to be a part of a cat’s lifetime routine. FURminator deShedding Tools, which are used and recommended by professional groomers and veterinarians, reduce shedding and hairballs by up to 90%. Using a FURminator at home to remove the cat’s undercoat for a few minutes twice a week can relieve pet owners of the mess of loose fur and hairball worries.

FURminator invited bloggers everywhere to groom their cats with FURminator deShedding Tools, mount the removed fur onto paper mustaches, take photos of their feline fashionistas and post the photos on social media sites (including FURminator’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FURminator).

Cody and I were asked  to help spread the word that hairballs are more than unpleasant messes, they are signs of potential health problems. But nobody told us HOW HARD it would be to put a mustache on a CAT! See for yourselves!

First, it is important to try and EAT your mustache. After all, it SMELLS like YOU  so it MUST be delicious, right?

Here is our final attempt at putting on Cody's FURminator® mustache! That fur is all Cody's that we accumulated from our FURminator® !!!

Not bad eh? How do you like the uncanny resemblance to:

do you think Geraldo made his mustache
with a FURminator® ?
But I digress!

Want to gather fur AND prevent hairballs by making your OWN furry mustache?  With options for both small and large breeds, the FURminator line enables cat owners to easily find the right size product for their pet. In addition, each size tool offers both long and short hair varieties for optimal results.

This is OUR  FURminator®
and it even has all kinds
of fur on it!

ENTER TO WIN!! The kind people at FURminator®  have generously offered to give ONE LUCKY PERSON IN THE U.S. A  FURminator®  of their own!  This is a $49.99 value!

#Earth Day Tips for EVERY Day!!

Hi every furry! It's Cody and today is a special day! Today is:

 EARTH DAY!

What is Earth Day?

Glad you asked!

From Wikipedia: Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Read more about it here

I was helping Mom read some of the sites that she follows and we came across a great article from Care2.com that lists the Top 10 Ways to Make Every Day Earth Day!
Is this incredible or what?
My dear furiend Nellie
made this for me!
I am circling the Earth
with other KITTY FURIENDS!

Visit Nellie's blog
MY CAT FROM HELL
HERE

Here are some of our faves from the article, with my cat tail spin on it!

USE LESS WATER!!
Did you know that if your humans turn OFF the water when they brush their teeth they will save FOUR GALLONS OF WATER A MINUTE?

AND:

Does your human REALLY need to soak for hours and hours in the tub? Does your human know that when they soak in a tub they are actually soaking in their own dirt?? You would NEVER see a cat doing that, it's disgusting, just sayin'!

I have heard of humans that take 20 minute (or longer) showers! C'mon! Is ANYONE really THAT dirty? Then, humans add to the equation by singing caterwauling the entire time they are cleaning themselves. The noise of that ALONE is noise pollution which affects the Earth and my sensitive kitty ears!

My tip?
Be more like a cat. Use LESS water, take about 5 or 10 minutes to get yourself clean. And do it QUIETLY, you know, like CATS DO!

PUSSYFOOT AROUND!
In other words tell your human to WALK! It is not only good for your human physically, but if they change their routine and shop at places that are reachable just by using their PAWS instead of those loud, smelly, machines on wheels,  imagine the gas they will save!  That will translate to helping our planet AND enabling them to have MORE MONEY to buy YOU TREATS!

RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE!!
According to the Care2 article:
THE TOP 10 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO RECYCLE (as listed by the National Recycling Coalition Inc) ARE:

  1. aluminum
  2. PET Plastic Bottles
  3. Newspaper---we kitties know about this one for sure! We like to lay on them, crinkle them, we have our humans donate them to rescues, etc.
  4. Corrugated Cardboard-this is also another specialty of kitties! We turn them into SCRATCHING ZONES!! Are we SMART or WHAT?
  5. Steel Cans
  6. HDPE Plastic Bottles
  7. Glass Containers
  8. Magazines
  9. Mixed Papers
  10. Computers-YESSS let's recycle these puppies (and dogs too MOL) but remember to get rid of pawsonal information before you do so! Mom learned from our cable guy last week that if you stick magnets on your modem you will fry ALL of your information and you can do that before you dispose of it!

I am DEFINITELY doing my part when it comes to recycling that is for sure!
 Want to know how?

I found the most PAWFECT toy that is not only FUN, GREAT FOR THE PLANET, INEXPENSIVE, (you can get zillions of 'em for less than a bag of kibble!) and...when you are done playing with it,  your humans can EAT IT! Guess what it is?

POPCORN!!!

I'm not talkin' about that junk that comes in a bag in the store that is full of chemicals. I am talking about the kind that you pop in your microwave, YOURSELF! I'm talkin' the GOOD OLD FASHIONED kind that your humans actually makes in a much HEALTHIER way for themselves.

You can also make popcorn in the microwave the way my Mom does!

1) Get a large glass or microwave-safe plastic bowl
2) Put a 1/4 cup of popcorn in the bowl
3) Cover with a lid (or plate)
4) Pop 3 to 4 minutes (depending on your microwave!)
That's it!
Some seasoning ideas are:
1) parmesan cheese
2) salt or artificial salt
3) Imitation butter spray
4) olive oil
5) garlic powder
6) Italian Seasoning
You can use any or all of these together...or separately! You can also use:
1) Chili powder
2) Smoked paprika
3) cinnamon

Now get popping!!! And....for your toy......

You just wait until your human drops a few kernels (which they are sure to do) and you are on your way!

See what I mean? That is a short video but trust me you will have HOURS of fun!

So my furry furiends, I gave you some great suggestions to help Mother Earth on Earth Day, I hope you will do your part!

Now, enjoy the video that I posted last year that is my favorite rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow! Sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole who left this beautiful Earth too soon!

Love, Cody

"I Love you, I love you, I love you and where you go I'll follow" If you LET Me!... ......Semi-Wordy Wednesday

Hi everyone, it's Cody! There has been something that has been on my mind for quite some time and today I would like to address it. I WANT TO FOLLOW YOUR BLOG!!!

I  voiced my concern to one of the Queens of the Blog-o-sphere (Ann Adamus, from Zoolatry) and she created these really cool graphics for Dakota and I to share with you! It is a super cute way to tell you what has been on my mind!
The above instructions are for those on Blogger, for blogs that are on WordPress you would just add the "follow by email" by going to your widgets (or something like that!)

Anyway...enjoy this oldie but goodie....Mom used to love this song when she was a kid...."following" what a concept.....maybe it was a sign of things to come? MOL!

Have a great day!

Love,

Cody

Mustached “Copycats” Promote Good Health for Cats in Conjunction with National Hairball Awareness Day

In keeping with its annual tradition of taking a humorous approach to a serious subject, FURminator®, the company known for its innovative pet deSheddingsolutions, is using fashion and social media to celebrate National Hairball Awareness Day (NHAD). The last Friday in April (which is April 26 in 2013) is designated as a time to recognize the hazards of hairballs and take steps to eliminate them.

FURminator is inviting bloggers everywhere to groom their cats with FURminator deShedding Tools, mount the removed fur onto paper mustaches, take photos of their feline fashionistas and post the photos on social media sites (including FURminator’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FURminator). The idea is to spread the word that hairballs are more than unpleasant messes, they are signs of potential health problems.

Veterinarian Shelby Neely explains that because cats groom themselves with their tongues, they naturally ingest hair in the process. Up to two-thirds of shed hair can be ingested as cats self-groom. These loose hairs can pack together in a cat’s stomach and form a hairball. In most cases, the cat will need to vomit to force out the hairball, which is not good for the cat or household. If hairballs are not spit out, they may block the passage of food in the stomach or become impacted, requiring surgery to remove the blockage.

“Traditional hairball treatments (lubricants, diets, etc.) address the problem after the hair has already entered the cat’s body. A FURminator deShedding Tool PREVENTS the problem by preventing the hair from getting into the cat’s body in the first place,” says Dr. Neely. “FURminator stresses preventative care and that is the true definition of good health!”

With options for both small and large breeds, the FURminator line enables cat owners to easily find the right size product for their pet. In addition, each size tool offers both long and short hair varieties for optimal results.

Check out the video that I shot of Cody last April (2012) and you will see how much he loves his Furminator!

So be sure to stop by on April 26th to see Cody's FURminator mustache!

FURminator Cat deShedding Tools (small breed MSRP: $42.99 and large breed MSRP: $49.99) are available in long and short hair varieties. FURminator Hairball Prevention Waterless Spray for Cats (MSRP: $8.99) and Hairball Prevention Shampoo for Cats (MSRP: $8.99) are available in 8.5 oz. bottles.

Don’t let your cat suffer from hairballs. FURminator deShedding Tools, shampoos and hair care products are sold at pet specialty stores, and are also available online at www.FURminator.com.

About FURminator:
FURminator enhances relationships between pet parents and their pets with effective and easy-to-use pet grooming products. Based in metropolitan St. Louis, FURminator was founded in 2002 by husband and wife team David and Angela Porter. Win a Handmade Cat Blogger Lampwork Necklace from For Love Of A Dog! Purrfect for #BlogPaws!

It's my  Birthday Give-Away Grand Finale!

Ohhh my furiends do I ever have a give-away for you! I even got Mom to return from the Zombie Sickie Land long enough to help me with this one! Trust me you are gonna LOVE IT!

Back in February of 2012, Mom blogged about a website that she had found called For Love Of A Dog where some of the BEST jewelry on the web is made by Sue Kottwitz, (owner/artisan/craftsperson, jewelry maker extraordinaire!)  Don't let the name fool ya kitties, they have CAT JEWELRY TOO!
Visit For Love Of A Dog Here

Mom had purrsonally BOUGHT a few items from Sue which she talks about in her blog post from February 2012 and also on Dakota's blog. Mom adores Sue's jewelry and is certain that you will too.

Sue's jewelry ALWAYS arrives attractively  packaged:

Here are some more pieces from For Love Of A Dog that Mom owns:
Sue surprised Mom
and sent her these
earrings that Mom
will cherish forever
as a THANK YOU
for having this give-away
and the one that just ended on Dakota's blog

When Mom  went to the BlogPaws conference  in 2011,  She  brought way too much jewelry to "represent" both  me  AND Dakota. Packing was a nightmare, she  had so many chains around her neck that she looked like "Mr.T!!"
Well Sue came up with the PERFECT solution for that problem!
Sue sent Mom a necklace that covered ALL of her "bases!"
Here is a photo of Mom's necklace!

Just when one would think that the selection of Sue's jewelry on her site couldn't get any better,  Sue came up with the great idea of making jewelry that would not only be ideal for those of us attending the BlogPaws Conference in May, but would also be suitable for those who are not members of BlogPaws (or bloggers), but would still love to purchase (or win!!) a slightly different version of the  necklace for themselves!

Mom thought that was a fantastic idea!

For this GIVE-AWAY
Sue came up with the PURRFECT necklace
 for Cat Lovers!

From For Love Of A Dog:

This hand crafted necklace is a special tribute to the annual Blog Paws Conference event. Sweet artisan lampwork black and white paw print beads and black agate gemstone beads are hand wire wrapped with silver jeweler's wire.

The centerpiece consists of 3 separate hand stamped detachable charms.

Silver paw print proclaiming BLOGPAWS accented with a ruby red crystal rondel.
Silver cat silhouette proclaiming BLOGGER, also accented with a ruby red crystal rondel.
Puffy red hand made lampwork glass heart
Charms attach/detach with tiny lobster claw findings for easy on and off. Wear charms solo or in any combination you desire.
Necklace measures 18" or with extender chain, 21".

The REGULAR PRICE of this necklace would be $85 but Sue has put the necklace ON SALE for my readers for at least 2 weeks! The sale price is $50 which is a bargain for meticulously handcrafted, original jewelry that you CANNOT find anywhere else!  If you would like to order the necklace NOW, just click here

A Plea to my friends!

Hi all, it's Cody! Since Mom is still quite ill (yes, you may see her online, but that is just because she is incredibly NOSY), and residing in the land of the "sickies" (physical "sickies", you already knew about her mental incompetence)....I am taking over the computer today!

Once again THANK YOU to all of my friends who voted for me in the AmazeCats competition, but as many of you know, I was eliminated in the last round.  Turns out I was in the WRONG bracket! MOL! Had I been in the competition that ended yesterday, I not only would have moved on, I would have CLEANED UP with the 387 Legal votes that I had (I actually ended up with votes that took me well over 400 but those came in after the contest ended at 2pm) ....but I digress....

Congratulations to Odin from Cat Wisdom 101, he's moving on and he is gonna have his work cut out for him, but once again...I digress. This post isn't about ME or Odin......it's about my dear furiend:

Photo used with purrmission
from Glogirly
Katie from Glogirly tails of two cats & their girl!

Not only do I think that Katie is pretty darned amazing,  she did so much purring to her peeps to try and get me to move on in my bracket, that it is the LEAST that I can do for her!!

So, what I would LOVE, is for all of you that would have voted for ME (OR NOT)......TO PLEASE CAST YOUR VOTE FOR KATIE TODAY!!!!! Oh and please ask your furiends to vote for her too? VOTING WILL CONTINUE UNTIL 2PM ET THURSDAY!

HERE IS THE DIRECT LINK TO VOTE FOR KATIE!!

"Easy", Thankful and Inspirational Sunday, Oh and a FRIDAY teaser!!

Hi every one it's Cody and Happy Sunday!

I am just lying around getting my "Easy" on and I decided there are a few things that I want to say to all of you!

1) THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me, and for those who persistently urged OTHERS to vote for me in the AmazeCats bracket yesterday and Friday! There are a number of you who were SUPER HELPFUL and I don't want to mention names because if I do I will leave someone out, and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings!  It was a super close race, I scratched and clawed with all of my might but I missed making second place by a whisker, but it's all good!

Here are the results as taken from the AmazeCats website:

"Tiny --- 489 votes (moving on)
The Three Catketeers --- 403 votes (moving on)
Cody --- 387 votes
Daisy the Curly Cat --- 180 votes

All 4 of these kitties were whisker to whisker at the start of this race but it was Tiny of Tiny's Weight Loss Challenge who won the top votes in the end. It will be a interesting match up as he takes on TLKTC and Dash in the next round.

The real drama came between The Three Catketeers and Cody who had a whisker to whisker finish in the closing minutes of voting. The kitties were meowing, purring and throwing their paws up into the air in support of these cats! The Three Catketeers managed to cross the finish line with more votes in the end. Much kitty love to Cody and Daisy the Curly Cat for an amaze-ing purrformance!"

See that? I SKERRED those Catketeers big time! They didn't think I would give them any competition and I proved them wrong.

EDITORIAL OPINION FROM ME AND MOM: It was fun while it lasted, the ONLY complaint that Mom and I have about this contest is that they shouldn't list who voted for who. Mom and I think they should have done something where you click "like" by each cat and it isn't made public who you voted for or something like that. That way you avoid hard feelings, just our opinion!  Anyway, it's good that I lost when I did because those special needs cats would have ended up REALLY kicking my gray-striped butt!

So to those who voted for me and supported me BIG TIME, I LOVE YOU AND I THANK YOU!!!  You are some of the BEST FURIENDS EVER!!
Everyone enjoy this motivational video!

Speaking of Mom: Mom ended up getting sick (she was feeling really bad 2 days ago and it kicked in in full force yesterday) Fever, sore throat, cold.........Mom originally posted that our give-away would be MONDAY...unfortunately Mom is too sick to work on it today so we are moving the give-away to FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!
Here is a teaser!!

Click HERE to learn more about this
fabulous necklace
and come back FRIDAY
to enter to win!

Grumpy Cat Stars in #Friskies #WillKittyPlay with It?”

You knew that it would be coming! The Queen of "Grumpy",  (Grumpy Cat), who doesn't like ANYTHING is now a spokescat for  Friskies® !!

Back on February 21st we had a contest and told you about the  Friskies®
campaign "Will Kitty Play With It?"  and as far as Cody's involvement...it was an epic fail!

Will Grumpy Cat aka Tardar Sauce be any different?

In the first video, Grumpy cat makes a cameo appearance

with an adorable Tabby Kitty named "Fidget"

In the second video, Grumpy Cat is the FIRST celebrity cat being presented with household objects to see if "Will Grumpy Cat Play With It?" What do YOU think happened?

All I can say is I am now PROUD to say that Cody's lack of wanting to "Play With It" was shared by some awfully good company!!

The videos featuring Grumpy Cat can be found on
FriskiesFacebook page and Friskies’ YouTube channel

In Full Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I am one of a clowder of cats in the Purina Cat Blogger Panel. I was contacted to see if I would share these videos. It was my pleasure to do so!
