"I don't get ENOUGH Respect!" #NationalRespectYourCatDay

Hi my furiends! It's Roary and talk about NO RESPECT!! It's almost the END of National Respect Your Cat Day      and Mom is FINALLY allowing me to have a say on the blog! If you ask me, this should have been done waaay before the last minute!

I pretty much feel I do NOT get the respect that I deserve!

I was here first but everything in our house revolves around the attention-hog Giant Sheltie who resides here as well.

Everything is "Levi this and Levi that!"

Mom wonders why I don't sit on her lap? Well, she chooses to watch TV on the couch right in front of Levi's crate! If he sees me while he is in the crate he loses his mind!

I think Mom gives waaay too much attention to Levi. Dad does too. But.....I am all about "Team Dad" and frankly he is the one I prefer!

You would think Mom was a DOG person the way she acts with Levi!

I guess because he seems mentally challenged, she has to tend to his needs more.

In fairness though, after a gazillion months Mom FINALLY cleaned and re-charged my fountain.

(But I still prefer drinking out of the bathtub).

She also bought me delicious broth made just for cats and dogs to encourage me to drink more fluids!

I would say that's a paw in the right direction but she sure has a long way to go!

Mom says she respects me EVERY SINGLE DAY, but I beg to differ!! Hoping you kitties get way more respect than I do!

Love, Roary

Happy National Cuddly Kitten and Puppy Day 2023!!

Oh boy oh boy!!! Today is Cuddly Kitten Day AND National Puppy Day!!! In honor of this day I am sharing photos of the boys when they were younger.

Roary was about 12 or so weeks old when he came to live with us (maybe a tad older)Roary was the CRAZIEST kitty!!!! He was into ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING and was a perpetual ball of motion! Definitely the most mischievous kitten I had ever known!

Levi was only 9 weeks old when he came to live with us and what a learning experience it has been!! When Dakota joined our family he was 8 months old, there is a  HUGE difference between a 9 week old puppy joining a family and an 8 month old puppy joining a family!!

While Levi can't resist trying to eat "Marshmallow Boy" (I think Roary looks like a toasted marshmallow), I am grateful that they are basically good friends, albeit wild ones!!

Roary was the CUTEST kitten!
Apparently he thought so too!

Levi was only 9 weeks old in this photo

There were times that I literally broke down crying from thinking that Levi would never be housetrained, and was frustrated about the number of "barricades" I had to construct to keep Roary out of mischief.

Everyone told me to enjoy these days because they go by so fast and they are right. Time IS flying!! While there were many exhausting and trying days, they are less frequent. I wouldn't change anything about these two silly and wild boys.

This was from 2021 I believe

They have added life, energy, fun, craziness, love and joy to our lives that we are forever thankful for!!!

Happy Cuddly Kitten and National Puppy Day!!

#NationalNappingDay (Cuteness Alert!)

Today is National Napping Day,   a day that was originally created in honor of many of us losing sleep due to the clocks "springing forward" for daylight saving time.

Cats and Dogs have always known that naps are beneficial! No one has to tell them!

So...in honor of National Napping Day, enjoy some old photos, of how cats are masters at napping and dogs have taking naps down to a science too!

Remember when your cats were kittens and you photographed every single thing they did?
Napping photos are at the top of the list of photographs taken of kittens!
Here is Roary when he was a youngster, napping away!

Puppies have endless energy!!! One minute they are tearing up the house, the next they crash wherever they are to take a much needed nap! Levi learned the art of napping pretty early!

Roary is demonstrating how cats also can practice Yoga while being in the  midst of a nap!

Sometimes it's fun to have someone to nap with!

One of those "someones" used to be me, Roary hasn't napped with me in ages, probably because I never lay down to take a nap myself!

Pleasant dreams!

Sleeping in your woofie brother's bed can be fun!

and laughing your kitty butt off after it!!!

Poor unsuspecting woofie!!

So, no matter whether you are a canine or a feline, or a 2-legger, make some time to take a good 'ol power nap!!! You will be happy you did!!!

Cat Book:Heavenly Headbutts: Reflections of Hope and Cats and Eternity by Allia Zobel Nolan

Inspirational New Book asks “Will I see my cat in heaven?”

"After she lost three aging cats in the space of a year and a half, bestselling author Allia Zobel Nolan needed a resource that could soothe the gut-wrenching loss and at the same time elicit hope. She couldn’t find what she was looking for. So, she wrote a book that would help her and other cat lovers grieve with an expectation that their cat’s story was not at an end. Heavenly Headbutts: Reflections of Hope about Cats and Eternity is 90 pages of affirming scripture, engaging photographs, and short anecdotes and opinions by the author and everyone from Isaiah to C. S Lewis, to George MacDonald and James Harriot. The book questions whether the same animals who were our soulmates on earth will share our lives in some form or another in the hereafter."

“My wish,” says Zobel Nolan, “is that Heavenly Headbutts will pull a soft coverlet of hope over the hearts of those who’ve lost a beloved pet so they can put one foot in front of the other and step out in faith.” But the book is not just for those grieving. “It encourages thoughtful reflection and holds out joyous expectation to all cat lovers that their cat’s story is not finite. It will last forever.” Can Zobel Nolan confirm unequivocally that readers will hear sweet sounding purrs and feel the gentle headbutts of their cats in the hereafter? “I provide the reassurance,” says the author, “but it’s up to you to judge.”

FROM CAT AND DOG CHAT WITH CAREN:

I was excited to receive this book after having reviewed a couple other books by Allia Zobel Nolan. While the quotes/photographs didn't disappoint, being Jewish, I didn't expect the religious emphasis that this book would have. (Since most of you are not Jewish who are reading this, there are parts you will be able to relate to much better than I could.)

That being said, here are parts of the book that resonated with me:

"Our cats may be gone from this world physically. But I believe their spirits, the life glow God breathed into them at Creation, is still alive--in some shape or form. I believe their stories are not over yet. There are more hijinks, headbutts, and yes, even hairballs, awaiting us when we meet Cat again in the New Heaven and New Earth God has promised."

While Heavenly Headbutts wasn't quite what I had expected it to be, (what I expected I am not 100% sure, but I thought it would dwell more on our feelings when we lose a beloved pet, etc.), it is still a worthwhile read. Once again, those of you who appreciate a strong biblical reference based on Christianity, you will appreciate the book immensely. While I consider myself to be spiritual, I am not as familiar with the Bible as many of you probably are.

The book is currently available on Amazon in print and eBook editions: https://tinyurl.com/ycwbk4r6. It retails for $13.99.
