Today is the 25th Annual World Spay Day #Worldspayday

"World Spay Day—the last Tuesday of February—provides an opportunity for shelter and rescue organizations to highlight their spay/neuter programs and win more community support in the form of donors, volunteers and clients. Created by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995 as Spay Day USA, World Spay Day has been recognized by nearly 70 countries, shining a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay/neuter to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in shelters or killed on the street."

How You Can Help:

"Everyone can contribute in spreading awareness about this day. Here's how you can help in this cause.

  • Have your pet altered
  • Encourage and aware your friends about spaying.
  • Create Awareness among people about this using social media,
  • By publishing ads or writing to the newspaper editors to publish it in newspaper articles.
  • Volunteer at nearby shelters
  • Organizing events and public speaking about spaying/neutering.
  • Raising funds for it as spaying is usually expensive
  • Adopt pets from shelters."

"By George you've Got it!"

"George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar which moved Washington's birthday a year and 11 days to February 22, 1732."

Remembering Our Michigan Friend Wally on National Love Your Pet Day

This is happening far too often. Another beloved pet has left us for the Bridge. This time it was Wally of The Island Cats.

This is beyond surreal to me. Wally was a special kitty.  He was incredibly handsome. He lived in Michigan, (maybe 40 or so minutes away from me), but while I had gotten together with his Mom,  I never had the pleasure of meeting him or his kitty siblings.

Hoping The Island Cat Family doesn't mind that I "borrowed" this photo
If I am doing the math correctly I think Wally would have been 16 this June, doesn't matter if he was 6 or 16, anytime a kitty leaves us it is too soon.

My heart goes out to The Island Cat Family, Ernie, Zoey, Mom and Dad. I know that Wally was adopted at an extremely young age,    which makes this even harder. Losing a beloved pet is ALWAYS hard but living with them for so many years....as so many of you know and as I know all too well, the void is cavernous.

I am also sad because Wally's family had recently moved to a new home and Wally barely got to enjoy it.

The purpose of National Love Your Pet Day (WHICH TO YOU, ME AND EVERYONE WHO LOVES PETS IS EVERY DAY) is  "to encourage pet owners to spend some time with their pets and show them the love and affection they deserve. It doesn’t matter if you own a cat, dog, bird, fish or reptile, today is the day to pamper them and show them how much they mean to you."

I think if we are all candid, we would  admit that we have times that we are just "too busy" or "too stressed" to actively play with our pets. I am at the front of the line on that one. While I adore both of my boys, I know I don't actively play with them as often as I should. But...they are deeply, deeply loved, are kissed and cuddled daily, and they know how much they are loved.

Wally was deeply loved too, not just by his family but by his blogging family, his facebook family and by all who read their blog.

One of the most awful parts about blogging for many years as The Island Cats have been, and as we have been, ( we will hit 10 years blogging in October), is that when we all first began blogging our kitties were babies (Cody was 2 years old and now he is going on 12)...after spending multiple years reading someone's blog you become attached to the pets often more than to the humans (sorry but it is true!!)  Losing yet another long-time blogging kitty is painful for everyone, but especially Wally's family.

Cody and I want Wally's family to know how much we loved and enjoyed reading about Wally, and we want them to know how much he will be missed......I am sorry for this disorganized post, but as I write this, my heart is getting in the way.

Thank you Sue for sharing Wally with us, Wally thank you for being YOU.....

To all of you, you can stop by The Island Cats and leave them messages of sympathy and comfort, and hug your pets a little tighter, I know I will.

Feedburner is Malfunctioning Yet Again.......

Stolen from Pinterest
Here we go again. If you are like me and subscribe to nearly every blog you follow via email, and if Feedburner is somehow involved with said email subscriptions, you might have noticed that within the past 48 or so hours they have stopped coming. (NOTE: You do NOT have to have a "Blogger" blog for this to be happening, it is happening with self-hosted and WordPress blogs as well).

This happened in 2018 at least 4 times, each time the blog posts would stop coming for as long as 4 or 5 weeks at a time, then...BOOM......they would magically re-appear.

This is frustrating because if you do not have your blog on Blog Lovin' and you aren't posting your links in a blog hop of some sort, I can't read them (because my feeble mind doesn't remember the well over 100 blogs I follow by each and every name).

For those that are number watchers, those will be affected as well because obviously if your blog isn't hitting someone's inbox, it isn't being seen or read.

I am doing my best to keep up with my blog reading and commenting, but if I am not around that is why.

If anyone knows the secret as to how to contact Feedburner to bring this to their attention, leave a comment and let me in on the secret. I have tried stealing the witch's broom and returning it to the Great Wizard of Oz, but this doesn't seem to be the fix.

Thank you!

Experience Delicious "Food, Friends, Life" at Anna's House!!

Today is National Make a Friend Day   and if you live in Michigan ohh are you ever going to be happy to make a new friend!

This isn't your traditional cat post, but it IS a post that has something cat-related in it.

Last Tuesday was my husband's birthday and I took him to a "new to us" restaurant in Farmington Hills, Michigan called "Anna's House."

The second my server brought THIS to the table, I KNEW this was gonna be good!

I began laughing and told her I have a cat blog and that I just LOVE cats and she couldn't have given me my coffee in a better mug!

She told me to sit tight because she had other cat mugs which you will see featured in the collage that I made below that features the cat mugs as well as the scrumptious breakfast I had!

Our darling server, (Kayla, who was a complete delight!) told my husband and I if you donate your coffee mugs (that are in GOOD condition), to the restaurant you get FREE COFFEE!!

The decor in the restaurant is fresh, clean, colorful, with a retro vibe that you can see in the other collage that I made below:

Isn't it just the cutest! Oh and why did I feature this today, well the Anna's House tagline is :

"Food, friends, life"

and on National Make a Friend Day I thought it was a purrfect fit!! (Nope I was not compensated for this post and they don't even know that I featured them.) I am just insane about this restaurant, the decor, the DELICIOUS FOOD and the service and I want my fellow Michiganders to check out one of their SEVEN LOCATIONS so they can make a new friend or two there too!!!!

Happy Birthday to MY Cat Daddy!!!

Dad,
Mom may have been the one who found me,
but it is YOU who has a major love affair with me.
I wake you up at the butt-crack of dawn,
whining and meowing you know you are my pawn.
You love me so much it's plain to see,
that my kitty cuteness has you overwhelmed with glee.

Our morning ritual is unsurpassed,
I lay on the chair in the kitchen and show you my belly ass.
You know how to pet me just right,
you give me tons of treats throughout the day and the night.
It is easy for every one to see, that your "main squeeze"
isn't Mom or Dakota.....
IT'S ME!!!!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!!
Remember, today we fawn over you
but tomorrow it's back to fawning over ME!!
Love, Cody
