Early Halloween Fun!!!! Semi-Wordy Wednesday

Noooo, we aren't confused! We know that today isn't Halloween but the HALLOWEEN FUN has started!

Our buddy, Sammy, over at One Spoiled Cat is having a Halloween photo contest:

From Sammy: "there are going to be TWO winners – the top two photos getting the most votes will get a prize from ME!   You may pick ALL of your favorites too – you do NOT have to pick just one – you can vote for as many or as few as you wish.  Also, you can come back tomorrow and vote AGAIN.  The poll will close tomorrow night   TONIGHT and Halloween we’ll have my HAUNTED HOUSE and the announcing of the winners RIGHT HERE!   WOO HOO (or should that be BOO BOO since it’s almost Halloween???!!!)"

Would you do this Cowboy  a favor and please give me a vote? While you are there you can vote for other kitties, woofies, piggies, etc., etc.,  too!!!!

Thanks so much and have a PAWFECT Day!

Book:"Ask Bob" by Peter Gethers and a World-Wide Give-away!

“A touching, funny story about the mystery of love – human and animal –
 that rings too true.”

—Carl Hiaasen

Dr. Robert Heller is one of New York City's leading veterinarians and his “Ask Dr. Bob” advice column is a must-read among pet lovers. More at home among animals than humans, Bob soon comes to realize that he, too, could use some advice. His father is angry and controlling, his mother is nearly invisible, and his brother seems bent on destroying not just his own life but also the lives of everyone around him. As for Bob’s wife, Anna, she is all but perfect, assuming one can ignore her own colorful but deeply dysfunctional clan. And then, just when Bob thinks he’s figured out what it takes to thrive in the human world as comfortably as he does among cats, dogs, and hamsters, tragedy strikes. How can he go on living when he is suddenly, soul-killingly alone?  Ask Bob is a funny and poignant story about what it means to put your life back together.

It is a worthwhile read that will have you thinking, laughing, crying and commiserating throughout its approximately 300 pages.

The beginning of each chapter features a "letter" to "Ask Dr.Bob" which lays the ground work for the ensuing chapter.

In response to one of his readers' questions submitted via his advice column "Dr.Bob" responds "Everyone has some kind of scar-it's simply a question of how many we get and how we bounce back from them. Some scars are on the surface. Some disappear quickly. Some linger before fading. But every time we're nicked and scarred, we're altered. It doesn't mean we're a lesser of better version of ourselves, but we are different."

Bob, Anna, his father, mother, nephew, brother and other characters in this touching and witty book are ALL scarred (as all of us are), and  through "Ask Bob" the reader discovers how each copes and in some cases, triumphs, in their own way.

Many of the responses that Dr.Bob writes to his readers are sarcastic, but they ALL contain the TRUTH. It's just a matter of if the readers will LISTEN and LEARN from that truth and ultimately, will Dr.Bob learn from his own advice?

Dr.Bob devoted his life as a vet to trying to "fix" damaged animals, but through the process he just couldn't "get away from all the damaged people."

From "Ask Bob", "With animals, you feed them, house them, pet them, and, when needed, you take away their pain-and for that they trust and love you. It should be that simple with humans, but of course it isn't. We try to make it that simple, but it never is"....that is what makes us human "We are not simple. We run from things we're attracted to. We destroy the things we love. We want the things we can't have. We take the things we don't want. We're hurt by truths and soothed by lies. We live for such a short time and all we yearn for is something that will last forever."

Peter Gethers is a hugely successful book editor, screenwriter, playwright, publisher and author.  His previous books include The Norton Trilogy (starring Peter’s cat, Norton).  Most of all Peter is a gifted storyteller. Smart and heartfelt, and with a cast of unforgettable characters (and more than a few exotic creatures), Ask Bob reminds us that the road to happiness – although bumpy – is worth it.

ENTER TO WIN!!!!! TWO READERS will win a copy of "Ask Bob" by Peter Gethers. One winner  located in the U.S.  will receive the hard cover book (A $25 value), and one winner  OUTSIDE of the U.S.  will receive a link to download a digital copy FOR FREE!

THE GIVE-AWAY IS OPEN NOW (to those over 18 years of age) and will end on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH AT 5PM. The winners will be chosen at random by www.random.org and will be announced on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6th.

HOW TO ENTER: Just leave a comment telling me that you would like to be entered, that's it!

Gone too soon...

I love blogging, I truly do, but there are times like this one where it becomes an activity that I hate. There are too many dogs and cats crossing the Rainbow Bridge lately and the void we feel without them is simply devastating.

Bloggers spend much of their time flitting from blog to blog, laughing, learning, ooohing and ahhhing over photos and enjoying reading about adventures shared.  When asked, most of us couldn't tell you the names of the bloggers behind the blogs, but ask us the names of their pets? Now THOSE NAMES we know!

The pets that we read about touch us in ways that we aren't even cognizant of at the time, it is only when they are no longer with us that we begin to truly understand how much they meant to us.

We stole this from
Two French Bulldogs
Benny's Mom, human, whatever you want to call her, had a way with oh-so-few words and through some fabulous photos, of sharing the feisty personalities of her beloved "Frenchies." Through her dry wit and keen insight and understanding of her babies (Benny and Lily), she made us feel as if they were ours.
When they hurt, we hurt. Oh are we hurting.
Benny fought a brave fight with cancer, but he could only fight so much.

"Benny"
Please leave your condolences here
We guess God really needed an Angel.
Benny, Lily and "Mom" we love you, we hurt with you, and we DEEPLY THANK YOU for the joy you brought (and hopefully will still bring through sweet Lily) each and every time we visited your blog.

Thank you for ALWAYS coming to visit us, even if we write about cats,  and for your appreciation of cats. There are few doggies out there like that. On all of our give-aways you always mentioned how your kitty friends would like whatever it was that was being given away.  We love you Benny, and your Mom and sweet Lily.

Benny, you were one insanely special little guy,
We will NEVER forget you and will ALWAYS miss you,
With much love and our deepest sympathy,
Dakota, Cody and Caren

Non-Spooky #HALLOWEEN Kitties Featured At Six #Michigan # PetSmart Locations On OCT. 19

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS), in conjunction with the National PetSmart Halloween Costume Party, will be celebrating its adoptable black, white and orange “Halloween Kitties” by giving away special trick-or-treat goody bags with all “Halloween Kitty” adoptions at each of MHS’ six off-site PetSmart locations – in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Taylor and West Bloomfield – on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The usual thorough MHS adoption process will apply.

“The Michigan Humane Society looks forward to joining in the Halloween festivities at our PetSmart off-site cat adoption locations, in order to highlight our decidedly non-spooky black, orange and white cats who are looking for loving homes,” said CJ Bentley, Senior Director of Operations for the Michigan Humane Society. “In keeping with the Halloween theme, each cat or kitten adopter will not only walk away with a wonderful companion, but with a goody bag for their new pet.”
"Lola" by Wendy Hough

In addition, PetSmart will be hosting a costume party from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their animals dressed in costume for pictures against a Halloween backdrop. There will also be giveaways for pets in costume.

MHS is the original home of “Certified Pre-Owned Cats,” which are available in many makes and models. Each comes with a multi-point inspection, including spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, standard microchipping and more. For more information on adopting a pet from MHS, visit www.michiganhumane.org/adopt.

The Michigan Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the state. MHS works to end companion animal homelessness, provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, and to be a leader in promoting humane values.

PetPR.com Launches Pet Blogger Profile Series, “10 Questions with…” A Guest Post By Meredith Schneider, PetPR.com Manager

FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY: It is our pleasure to "mix it up" a bit today, by featuring a guest  post from Meredith Schneider, PetPR.comManager!
PetPR.com Launches Pet Blogger Profile Series, “10 Questions with…”
By Meredith Schneider, PetPR.com Manager
This month, PetPR.com, the only news distribution service exclusively serving the pet and veterinary marketplace, launched a new pet blogger profile series, “10 Questions with…” on its blog, The Treat Jar. The series kicked off with “10 Questions with Caren Gittleman,” blogger of Dakota’s Den and Cat Chat with Caren & Cody on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

“10 Questions with…” is designed to offer an inside look into the pet industry’s leading bloggers. Bloggers will answer questions about why they started their blog, how often and what types of news they post on their blog, what pet product companies should know about their blog and even which blogs they enjoy reading during their spare time, among many others.

PetPR.com developed the “10 Questions with…” pet blogger profile series to help connect businesses to the pet media and pet bloggers that cover their news. Each month, PetPR.com will feature a new blogger in “10 Questions with…” on its blog, The Treat Jar. In addition to the new blogger profile series, PetPR.com’s The Treat Jar also features free resources for pet product companies and service providers, including educational PR/marketing blog posts and free downloadable Training Papers, which offer tips for press release writing and best practices for pet news distribution. PetPR.com’s Newsroom and The Treat Jar can also provide a resource for pet media and bloggers seeking to connect with pet businesses for product reviews and giveaways, interviews and other opportunities.

PetPR.com’s mission is to provide cost-effective PR/marketing services to pet and veterinary businesses with limited budgets. Since re-launching under new management in June 2013, PetPR.com has helped spread the news of more than 75 pet businesses, professionals and industry events, such as Pets Best Insurance, Worldwise, Furlocity, BarkWorld and BISSELL, among many others.

Unlike other distribution services, PetPR.com sends your press release directly to journalists, bloggers and media covering pet-related news. Instead of receiving links to their press release reprinted on a number of unrelated media sites, PetPR.com’s customers receive true editorial coverage from industry-specific, targeted media outlets and contacts. The company also shares its news via its social networks, including Facebook,  Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, reaching thousands of other pet media, businesses and enthusiasts .

To be considered for PetPR.com’s “10 Questions with…” pet blogger profile series or to learn more about PetPR.com and its services, please email Meredith Schneider at info@petpr.com or visit www.PetPR.com.

About PetPR.com
PetPR.com (http://www.PetPR.com) is the only news distribution and editorial service dedicated exclusively to the needs of the pet and veterinary industry. PetPR.com was acquired by Red Barn Enterprises, the parent company of Fetching Communications, in early 2013 and re-launched under new management in June 2013. PetPR.com’s fee-based press release distribution service delivers news directly to pet media, journalists and bloggers, and free press releases can be uploaded to the PetPR.com Newsroom reaching journalists and industry professionals who have opted in to receive the latest pet and veterinary news. PetPR.com offers cost-effective communication tools for pet and veterinary businesses, bringing their news to the media who cover pet-related stories, features and blogs. In addition to its pet news distribution services, PetPR.com also offers editorial services including press release writing, editing and optimization as well as digital press kit development. Catit Design Senses Food Maze Is Purrfect for National Pet Wellness Month! Enter to Win!

OH MY CAT my furiends was I ever excited when a nice lady from Catit contacted me asking if I was interested in receiving and reviewing their:

Catit Design Senses Food Maze

Hey when it comes to anything pertaining to FOOD/EATING,
you don't have to ask me TWICE! MOL!

In all seriousness, I have the Catit Design Senses-Speed Circuit and I figured if the feeding maze is as good as that, well then, let me at it!

If you aren't familiar with Catit Design Senses, it is a new line of cat products that are designed to allow kitties to explore, experience and satisfy our senses!  They are products made by Rolf C. Hagen, one of the top international brands for pet products.

Mom was interested in this maze because she says I have an "eating problem" what she means by THAT I will never know,  she says I eat TOO FAST. In my opinion, that's the pot calling the kettle black, but I digress...

Since OCTOBER IS NATIONAL PET WELLNESS MONTH, Mom thought this would be a great product to help keep me healthy because  Mom says The Catit Design Senses Food Maze is the smart way to feed ME and YOUR cat(s). The kitty moves the food (or treats) through the maze by pawing at it through the side openings until it drops down to the food tray. The Food Maze appeals to our sense of touch and taste while encouraging mental and physical activity. By making kitties work for our food; and monitoring the amount of food added to the maze, the Food Maze can be a valuable tool to help with overeating or obesity problems. The Catit Design Sense Food Maze offers various levels of difficulty to challenge our abilities.

Key Features
- Side Cut-outs: Cat moves the food through the maze by pawing at it through the side openings
- Food Tray: As the food moves through the maze, it collects in the food tray at the bottom of the maze
- Varying levels of difficulty: rotating disc located inside the maze allow you to increase or decrease the openings for a more difficult challenge
- Accu-Pressure Mat: (not in videos but I did receive it! If you look at the photo of the box at the top, you will see the Mat.) provides pressure point paw massage

How did I like it?
See for yourself!
(get ready to laugh!)
And..those living in
the U.S. and Canada
can enter to win!
Watch the video to hear the entry
requirement!

Well did ya see me diving face first into that Food Maze? I guess I like it eh? Mom thinks it is great too, but she still has to control how much kibble she gives me. She put my daily 1/4 cup allotment in the maze thinking that I wouldn't finish it in one fell swoop. She thought WRONG! MOL! I love that maze so much that I wouldn't stop!

WANT ONE OF YOUR OWN?
As I mentioned in the video the give-away is open NOW for those living in the U.S. and Canada. There will be ONE WINNER (18 and over only please).

TO ENTER:
MANDATORY:Leave a comment telling me why you think that YOUR kitty (or kitties) would like the Catit Design Senses Food Maze!

Extra entries:
Like Catit on Facebook-leave a separate comment telling me you did this
Like Cat Chat With Caren and Cody on Facebook-leave a separate comment telling me you did this.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS 5PM , TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15TH, THE LUCKY WINNER (as chosen by www.random.org) WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17TH!!

GOOD LUCK!!

In full disclosure: I was not compensated for this review. I was sent a Catit Design Senses Food Maze for an honest reviews. All opinions are my own.

Some LONG OVERDUE THANK YOUS!!

Today's post is LONG overdue and I am beyond embarrassed! This past summer I was the INCREDIBLY LUCKY recipient of a number of items that I am going to FINALLY showcase in this blog post!

The first item, is this adorable purse that was made by Sammy's Aunt! (if you have been living under a rock and don't know Sammy, he is the adorable ginger kitty of the famous blog, One Spoiled Cat and you really need to go and visit him!) I was the highest bidder for this item in the auction that was held by Dachsies with Moxie!  How adorable is this purse?

It is the purrfect size for a casual outing
or trip to the store! I love it!

Then, I entered a super cool contest that Christine Michaels had going on on her blog Riverfront Cats.  (Christine is one of the sweetest and most genuine people that I have had the pleasure of meeting. She devotes her life to "rescuing stray cats, protecting community cats and embracing black cats", and if you haven't visited her blog, please do!!)  The contest I had entered was the  "Rags to Riches" contest and you will never believe what I won!! LOOK!!!

How incredibly ADORABLE IS THIS? It is SUPER FUNCTIONAL TOO! It's HUGE! I loved it so much, and it was the PURRFECT size to take when I went to BarkWorld this past August. That was the purse that I used and I adore it!

Also on Christine's blog I won a LUGGAGE WEIGHER (which I haven't used yet, but I will)
And....the GRAND DADDY OF HER GIVE-AWAY....a $100 VOUCHER FOR DELTA AIRLINES!! WOOOO HOOO!!!  I am hoping to use that for a trip that I have to take this November. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH CHRISTINE!

But wait! There's MORE!

One of our favorite blogging cats, Cathy Keisha, aka "Stunning Keisha" and as we know and LOVE her, "CK", had an INCREDIBLE GIVEAWAY  for EZ Sunday. The prize was a $15 gift card for my choice of jewelry from CrystalsandJewelry.com which is made by Robyn Harton.

Oh my cat!! WAIT until you see what I got!  Robyn makes the most beautiful pieces and I couldn't make up my mind. I had emailed her telling her I didn't quite know what to do, and she was a complete and total doll!!! I told her my favorite color is GREEN and that my birthstone is an opal, and I asked if she could think of anything, and she MADE ME a custom necklace!!! LOOK AT HOW GORGEOUS THIS IS!!

It arrived beautifully packaged!
I have to show you more photos
so you can appreciate just how gorgeous her work is!
It is so feminine and beautiful! Here is yet another photo!

See how she combined the green stones with opalescent stones? It is simply STUNNING! (Just like CK!). That was the necklace I brought with me to BarkWorld and I wore it every day. I just ADORE IT!

Robyn is a true professional and super easy to work with. I couldn't have designed a better piece myself. She TRULY understood EXACTLY what it was that I was looking for!

If you haven't visited Robyn's sites, I STRONGLY encourage you to do so, her work is amazing! Here are all the ways that you can visit her!

Feeling "Squirrely"

Nope, it's NOT a cat....but....along with loving cats, Squirrels are one of Mom's FAVORITES! This was sent to Mom on Facebook by her furiend Suzy S.

It was too cute NOT to use, and since Mom has been preoccupied with sports this week and behind on posts she wanted to do, it fits the bill!

Have a great weekend all!!!!

"We're Talkin' Baseball, We're Talkin' Tribe!" #GoTribe and maybe a little #DetroitTigers love too!

Sorry guys, but this takes the place of any Wordless Wednesday hopping around!
As many of you know, Mom is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She lived there for 35 years! She didn't move to Michigan until 2001.

So, when her Cleveland sports teams do something to brag about, which is a rare occurrence indeed! Her heart belongs to Cleveland.

Today, the Cleveland Indians are playing a "do-or-die" game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card playoffs. Mom is purring with all of her might that Cleveland wins and advances in the playoffs. If they lose....they are out.

This photo is from when Mom was lucky enough to attend the World Series in '95 (she was also there in '97)
The music in the video below used to be played on Channel 43 WUAB-Cleveland for all home games and it brings back some great memories!

Now, if by some miracle the Indians advance and continue on, there is an outside chance they will be playing the AL Champion Detroit Tigers, who play their first playoff game in the American League Central, this Friday, they are also the team that Mom cheers for whenever the Indians are NOT playing!

Since Tigers are felines, who do you think that I want to win? Don't know? Well, check it out below! Be sure to notice which team my paw is pointing to....Mom is hoping that this is NOT a harbinger of things to come!

GOOD LUCK TO THE CLEVELAND INDIANS

AND THE DETROIT TIGERS!
