7 Ways To Celebrate National Cat Day!
About National Cat Day from Wikipedia:National Cat Day was founded by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige. It is a celebration that takes place on October 29, every year in the United States. The National Cat Day website states that the holiday was first celebrated in 2005, "to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us."

Please Purr and Pray with all of your might!
"Purrs and Prayers are urgently needed at Brian's Home. Not only is dear Sister Gracie very ill, but Brian himself, along with Sascha, and Dolly and Precious are all suffering from sniffles and coughs ... nearly the whole kitty family is ill. So, please please visit with your prayers, your purrs and crossed paws!"
http://www.brianshomeblog.com/
FROM ANN AND WE COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!! As a side note to this request, many of you are aware that you receive many requests for purrs & prayers from Zoolatry; and also receive notice of Rainbow Bridge crossings. What you may not know, is that we receive nearly all of these original notifications from Brian's Home! I don't think there is a blogger who is more attentive to those who are in need of our support ~ and now it is time for us to give back. So, please be there for this wonderful, amazing and caring family. Thank you, Ann Adamus, Zoolatry.http://www.brianshomeblog.com/
***I copy and pasted Ann's email because I couldn't have said it better. Right now Cody and I are extremely upset about this news because Brian's Dad is a purrsonal and cherished furiend of ours, (as he is to many of you), and when it is this close it is that much more upsetting. Brian's blog was one of the first that we started following a few years ago and we never missed a beat. Please show the family, as Ann said, the support they so generously give to all of us! Love, Caren and Cody

Remember Me Thursday...#LightforPets
Today is a most impawtant day. It is the day when we honor the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home, and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption.
I am a rescue kitty. I was blessed that I had an amazing foster mother and was adopted by my Mom at a young age, but things could have been different.
Today I want to acknowledge animals who weren't as lucky as me and pray for those who are still waiting to be adopted. May they all find loving homes.
Join the Remember Me Thursday movement and see how YOU can be involved.
Animal lovers across the planet will honor these loving babies
by lighting candles on the exact same day.

“iFoster” to Help Find Homes for Animals via the Social Networks of the Fosters
Dearborn Animal Shelter Introduces “iFoster” to Help Find Homes for Animals
Innovative virtual campaign encourages individuals to assist on their own timeline
The Dearborn Animal Shelter in Michigan, continues to see a constant flow of homeless animals through its doors this year. Traditional methods of finding homes for the adoptable animals are not keeping pace with the rate in which the Shelter needs to find adoptive homes for the pets in waiting.
To help increase the adoption success, a new program was recently launched to encourage supporters to help 24/7. Elaine Greene, Executive Director, Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter commented “Many of the people looking for pets or supporting the Shelter are already frequent users of social media and the internet, so we thought this could be an easy step for them to help. Our team developed what we call iFoster, a virtual way for someone to help us promote an adoptable animal, using their own social media or email messages”.
The program is quite simple. A supporter contacts the Shelter via email and indicates they are interested in becoming an iFoster. A team member reaches out to them and sends a short email with a link to the photo and description of an adoptable pet. Then, the supporter shares about that pet in their own social media, Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest, email, anywhere they share virtual messages.
Greene continued, “This is a great way for someone to get involved that doesn’t have time during the day to volunteer at the Shelter or the ability to adopt or foster an animal in their home. All we are asking is for them to use their keyboard to share about the adoptable pet”. Once the pet is adopted, a team member contacts the supporter to share the good news and inquire if they want to take another animal to iFoster. Supporters can do so as often or as little as they choose.
If you are interested in becoming an iFoster, email iFoster@DearbornAnimals.org. To learn more about adoption, events, volunteering or donating online, the Dearborn Animal Shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road, Dearborn, and is operated by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter, a 501C3 nonprofit organization. Meet Your Best Friend At The Detroit Zoo!!
Saturday & Sunday
September 24th and 25th
from 10am to 5pm at:
The Detroit Zoo
The Michigan Humane Society and the Detroit Zoological Society will host the fall Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25, at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak. Hundreds of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for immediate adoption from MHS and more than 20 additional organizations at the largest off-site pet adoption event in the country.
There is no charge for admission or parking for this event, which is held in the Detroit Zoo front parking lot.
Last year, the spring Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo event found homes for 498 animals. Since its inception in 1993, the event has helped more than 17,000 animals find new, loving families.
Adoption policies and fees are set by each participating group and not by event sponsors. Adopters must present a driver’s license or state ID card. All dogs and cats will have received a medical checkup and age-appropriate vaccinations. For health and safety reasons, please leave current pets at home.
Our thanks to the corporate sponsors who help make this event possible and for the community’s support in adopting nearly 17,000 pets – that is, furry best friends – at the event since 1993.
The event will be held under tents in the Detroit Zoo front parking lot, beneath the signature water tower, located at 8450 W. 10 Mile Road in Royal Oak.

“People are sometimes surprised by how intelligent and loving cats really are,” said Addy Shattuck, owner of Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills. Our events attract a lot of first time cat adopters, but we also see a lot of families that want to bring home a companion for their existing cat. We highly encourage providing pets with same species playmates. It keeps the pet occupied and they are so much fun to watch together!”
To enable ongoing high-volume cat adoptions, Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills is building a Kitty City cageless adoption center. Customers will be able to preview this new habitat at the event.
The Cat’s Pajamas will take place at Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills at 2057 Telegraph, north of Square Lake Rd. Sponsors include The Cat Practice veterinary hospital in Birmingham and NOOTERS Club®, a national designer of apparel and gifts promoting pet spay and neuter and responsible pet guardianship.
