‘NAME YOUR OWN PRICE’ ON CAT AND KITTEN ADOPTIONS AT MICHIGAN HUMANE SOCIETY!! FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!!

In an effort to help adoptable cats find homes quickly during the extra-busy warm weather season, when shelters across the country are bursting at the seams with felines, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has announced a “Name Your Own Price” promotion for its cat adoptions. “Name Your Own Price” will began on Monday, August 18 at all MHS adoption locations and will continue for a limited time only. During the promotion, adopters can name their own adoption fee on MHS Certified Pre-Owned cats and kittens; any chosen adoption fee will be honored. The regular MHS adoption process will apply.  Cody and I love when Michigan Humane does this, it enables so many cats who might not have found a home, find their FUREVER home!

"The more quickly we find loving homes for these cats and kittens, the sooner we can help even more cats in need.”, said CJ Bentley, MHS senior director of operations.

MHS is the original home of “Certified Pre-Owned Cats,” which are available in many makes and models, and Cody and I are proud to partner with Michigan Humane, helping to spread the word about as many of their adoption events as possible! Each kitty comes with a multi-point inspection, spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, standard microchipping and more.

Meet your very own Certified Pre-Owned Cat at one of the three MHS adoption centers, Monday through Saturday (hours vary by location):

  • MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care: 7401 Chrysler Drive
  • MHS Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care: 3600 W. Auburn Road
  • MHS Berman Center for Animal Care (Westland): 900 N. Newburgh Road

In addition, MHS Certified Pre-Owned Cats can be adopted seven days a week during regular store hours at five PetSmart locations: in Dearborn, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Taylor and West Bloomfield; and at Petco in Sterling Heights.
For the complete list of MHS adoption locations and hours, visit www.michiganhumane.org.

The Michigan Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the state. MHS works to end companion animal homelessness, provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, and to be a leader in promoting humane values.

Pet Supplies Plus Launches Kitty City, First Free-Roaming Cat Adoption Center In Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

Holiday grand opening includes 200-cat adoption event Dec. 9-11

Center aims to find homes for more homeless cats & kittens in Oakland County

From the floor-to-ceiling window, to the miniature wing-back chairs, to the cat-size perches, the new Kitty City at Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills is giving homeless cats something to purr about this holiday.

Kitty City, created by Bloomfield Hills Pet Supplies Plus store owner Addy Shattuck, is a free-roaming cat habitat that gives felines a place to lounge, watch birds at an outdoor feeder and mingle with other cats while hoping that someone will spot them, fall in love and take them home.  The glass and screen enclosed open-air environment also enables humans to interact with the cats.

Kitty City will officially open with a holiday grand opening celebration, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, December 9, that includes free refreshments, cat food samples and in-store specials, along with 200 cats that will be up for adoption from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, December 9; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat., December 10 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 11.

Adopters get a free wellness exam for their cat or kitten provided by The Cat Practice of Birmingham, Michigan’s first feline-only veterinary hospital.  Adoption fee of $59 includes spay or neuter, vaccines and health check.   All cats are from Oakland Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills.
“The open environment lets the cats play and do what cats do while waiting for their real home," says Shattuck.  They are so much more relaxed and content instead of being locked up.  Customers love just to come in and watch the cats."

While the Bloomfield Hills Pets Supplies Plus has been adopting out homeless cats for years, Kitty City has already made a difference.  Since opening just a few months ago, the store has already seen cat adoptions increase as shoppers are drawn to watching the antics of the felines through the window.
“Unfortunately, Oakland County has a huge overpopulation of cats” Shattuck said.  “We are hoping that Kitty City will help more people see just how wonderful cats are as pets.”

I am excited because I am going to be visiting Kitty City next week! I am not sure if I am actually going to be at the grand opening or if I will visit a day or two before the grand opening but no matter what I am going to be there!!! Will DEFINITELY take photos! I love the concept of the kitties not being in cages. It is a "homey" environment that I think has to be better for the kitties!

Pet Supplies Plus In Bloomfield Hills, Michigan Starts Construction On Kitty City, A New Cageless Adoption Center For Cats And Kittens

Pet Supplies Plus of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan,  has started construction on Kitty City, a new cageless adoption center that will provide a free-roaming environment for adoptable cats and kittens waiting for good homes.

Kitty City is the brainchild of store owner Addy Shattuck who has been adopting cats and kittens out of her three Pet Supplies Plus locations for 20 years.

Kitty City will enable cats and kittens to socialize with each other and look out of a floor-to-ceiling window in nearly 1,400 cubic feet of space equipped with perches, cat walks and other forms of kitty entertainment.  It will be constructed of plastic and glass to provide for a bacteria-free environment with multiple screens for ventilation.   A full-size door will enable prospective adopters to interact with the cats, which will come from Oakland Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan and other shelters.  All cats will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and health checked and can be adopted for $59.

“Cats do not do well in a cage so we are creating an environment where they can be cats,” says Shattuck.  “It’s difficult to see the true personalities of these intelligent animals when they are confined in a small space.  We want the public to see just how unique each cat and kitten really is.  And we are hoping that a lot of them will find good homes as a result.”

Kitty City is scheduled for completion by August 2011. Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills is at 2057 Telegraph, north of Square Lake Rd.  For information, call 249-333-7545.

Callie Needs A Home!! And Clean+Green Contest Winners!! "Wordy Wednesday"

Hi everyone! I know today is supposed to be "Wordless Wednesday" but there are two very important things I have to take care of that are going to require using a lot of words.

The first is a cat named "Callie" who is available for adoption. Helping this cat in particular is important to me because she is being fostered by a woman that I adopted Cody from back in 2007.  Adopting Cody was a special gift and it is important to keep the circle of good karma going.  Please meet "Callie" who is being fostered by St.Julian's Cat Rescue. To visit their page on Petfinder and see more cats that are available for adoption please click here

"Callie"

"Callie is about 2 years old now. She is spayed and current on vaccines.  She is a wonderful girl, very loving, friendly, affectionate and easy going.

She is good with dogs, cats and children!

She is just the sweetest cat, very loving and super affectionate. She loves to play with her toys and fur mice (favorite toy!) and just loves to be with people. She is a lap cat or will just be by you and sleep in bed with you.  She also gets along well with dogs and would love another cat to play with, she will be great with children.
