A Very Lions Halloween!!!!

Last night our Detroit Lions had a Monday Night Football game, first Monday night game in FOREVER!!

Lenny and I went to the game last night and because it was the day before Halloween, I decided to represent!!!

I guess it worked because the Lions beat the Las Vegas Raiders 26-14!! The Lions are 6 and 2 and unless the bottom drops out, we will be playoff bound!

Halloween 2021: The Lion King and the Wild Cat!!

 HAPPY HALLOWEEN ALL!!!

I am posting a little early because we will be busy with football on Halloween and I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share some incredible graphics that were created by Ann from the Zoolatry blog (you really MUST contact her for artwork, holiday cards, headers, etc. if you haven't already). Ann captured the personalities of Levi and Roary even better than I could have!! Ann TOTALLY outdid herself!

First, we have Levi. From the day Levi joined our family as a 9 and a half week old puppy, he envisioned himself as being the KING:

Even with barely a mane or body fur, Levi had visions of not only ruling our family, but the WORLD!! Now, at 13 months old with the mane and body to match.....Levi has OFFICIALLY dubbed himself as: THE LION KING!

I laugh myself silly every single time I look at that photo!!!! No matter what anyone will tell Levi, in HIS mind, he is the KING (with a secret desire to be a CAT!!)

Speaking of cats, many of you saw this photo the other day, but for those who missed this adorable depiction of Roary by Ann, since the original intent was to use it for Halloween, here it is!!

I think Roary and Levi have their roles mixed up, don't you? That being said, Roary IS a WILD MAN much of the time. He is daring, bold, adorable, cuddly, brilliant, friendly and will investigate everywhere and ANYWHERE.....(especially places he is NOT  permitted to investigate, such as cupboards, tops of doors, the top of the shower stall, etc.)

These two really keep us on our toes and they give us a FRIGHTENING run for our money!

We wouldn't have it any other way!!

From our crazy home to yours, we wish you a happy and safe Halloween!

No Tricks, Just Treats and Cuteness!

Today we are happy to be pawticipating in the No Tricks, Just Treats for Shelters Blog Hop that is being sponsored by our furiends at LLB in Our Backyard. You can pawticipate too by publishing a Halloween post letting them know some way you plan to/or have helped a shelter or pet in need, and link up to the hop. They will be donating $1 per hop entry AND 50 cents  for each comment they receive on the 30th and 31st  Money raised this year will be split between Legacy Boxer Rescue, Marg's Animals and to our local Cat Rescue, HART(Humboldt Area Rescue Team) in Brian's name.

We are going to share some of our favorite Halloween photos of Cody that we have featured over the past ten years (and there will be a brand new one without Cody but of a different "cat") at the end, and beneath each photo we will share how we have tried to help shelters throughout the years.

This photo is from 2013. One way we try to help is we donate to our blogging friends and the shelters that are closest to THEIR hearts whenever possible.

This collage is from 2018. For the past few years we have featured the Petfinder widget on our sidebar that highlights an adoptable pet.

This photo was for a collage we did in 2015. In July we featured a local adoptable cat on our blog who ended up finding her furever home.

Don't remember what year this collage is from, and am too lazy to look it up, but back in June 2012 I attended an adoption event that was held at Kitty City II here in Michigan. It was in honor of Adopt A Shelter Cat Month. I decided to PAY THE ADOPTION FEE for a family that wanted to adopt a kitty that I had fallen in love with. You can read that post here  (I did end up hearing from the people who adopted that kitty but have fallen out of touch with them over the past few years)

This photo was actually taken last weekend when I attended Zoo Boo here in Detroit with my granddaughter, her parents and my husband. I dressed up as a LION!!!!

Throughout the years I have given back in other ways by:

  • featuring local shelters on our blog frequently
  • featuring local shelter fundraising events on our blog frequently
  • donating toys etc. to some of our local shelters
  • purchasing holiday cards from Michigan Humane

There are more things that I do, but none are as important as the things that SO MANY OF YOU DO by helping feral cats, practicing TNR, fostering cats,  volunteering at your local shelter, adopting your own cats and sooo much more!

Kudos to ALL OF YOU in this caring community because you ALL give back sooo much!
Have a happy and safe Halloween! Love from,

Captain America is Halloween-Ready on "BOOLATRY!!" (Better known as "ZOOLATRY")

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's CAPTAIN AMERICA!!

Halloween has arrived early over at Boolatry!!! Cody is delighted to help kick-off one of our most favorite holidays of the year!!

When Ann posted on her blog looking for volunteers for costumes, both Cody and Dakota  JUMPED at the chance to purrticipate!!

Ann captured Cody's adventurous, brave and also sweet "purrsona" purrfectly with the darling graphic above.

We LOVE what Ann wrote about Cody on her blog to describe this photo:

CODY is the Captain.  Captain America.
Fighting evil.  Doing good, avenging wrongs to make them right.
Strong and brave and loyal.  Kind and caring and loving to all.
A gentleman of the highest order.
CODY ~ super hero!

Thank you so much Ann! We love it!! If you think THIS one is cute though, just wait until you see Dakota's which will be posted on October 24th...it is HILARIOUS!!!!

Thanks Ann for such a great Halloween kick-off!!!

#Ad "The Devil Made Me Do It!" #NutrishPets

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

Hi my furry (and fur-less friends!!)  It's Cody, and today I am here because I MUST tell you how I was treated with the UTMOST disrespect !!  While other kitties were being adored on National Cat Day, I was being scolded and completely humiliated!

Allow me to re-create the sequence of events for you, and trust me, no matter what lies my Mom tells you about what happened, it is I who is telling the truth!!

Now that Mom is doing some part time work at home, in addition to her  OUR blog, she divides up in what room she does what. She does her work that is not blogging work in her (our!) office, and does her blogging from the dining room table which is a ***** NIGHTMARE! (Kitties remember that word NIGHTMARE because that is impawtant.)

I like to keep Mom company in our office, so, here we were, I was looking at Mom and being my adorable self as you can see below.

I did the adorable "dangle" with my paw and stared at Mom trying to get some attention. Having pulled out all of the stops, and STILL not getting Mom to pay attention to me, I decided to take a snooze.

All was fine in our world, (except for me getting the proper amount of attention that I so deserve!!) That night Mom and I did our usual "hand-holding" while watching TV. Then...the following morning, Mom's "Evil Twin" reared her ugly head!!

II had to think of SOMETHING to get attention from Mom!! I often get bored at night, and while I was waiting to jump on my Dad's head for my Nutrish breakfast, I decided to surprise Mom and "fix up" the dining room table where she does all of our blogging. THIS would DEFINITELY please her and get me a TON of ATTENTION! I worked quite hard, I must say! I even tossed some items on to the floor to Dakota to see if he could dispose of,  eat  some of Mom's mess!

Once I was finished, I could barely contain myself! I was excited because I couldn't wait for Mom to see how much I helped! When she got up, I hid, listened as she went out to look at the dining room table **** which remember kitties, I said  is ALWAYS a NIGHTMARE, and she proceeded to lose her mind. What an ingrate!!! Why she didn't appreciate that I knocked her paperwork, boxes, and checkbook to Timbuktu is beyond me!! Mom LOVES coffee, so why was she so upset that while I was trying to fix her mess up for her, I decorated her checkbook, bills and the oriental rug under the table with her favorite brew? Yep, there wasn't a drop left in the mug that SHE left on the table. But there was quite a bit of that caffeine goodness all over the table, floor, chairs, rug and Mom's papers! I think I did a darned good job, but Mom certainly was NOT appreciative of all of my hard work!

After Mom yelled at me (while I wasn't even around), for what seemed like forever, she decided to go and get Dakota and I a Halloween "costume." Dakota and I HATE costumes, but this year Mom didn't care.  She was upset with me, and not thrilled with Dakota either, so she was on a mission!! Here is what she had the NERVE to put on me!!!

No those devil horns are NOT photo-shopped on my head!
That is an actual hat that Mom purchased!!

It it wasn't for my delicious Nutrish that Mom and Dad feed me EVERY DAY, I would be OUTTA HERE!!!! My fave is the Real Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe: Real chicken or fish is always the number one ingredient in every bag of Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® for Cats. There's no ground corn, wheat or soy. And there's never any poultry by-product meals, artificial flavors or artificial preservatives. Just real meat or fish and wholesome veggies plus the vitamins, minerals and taurine your cat needs to be healthy and happy.

A portion of Nutrish proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue®, which was created to help animals in need. To date, over $14MM has been donated. This money has gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for these unfortunate animals.

All of the Rachael Ray Nutrish products are available where you shop for your family’s groceries, making specialty recipes accessible and convenient for every pet parent.

"Mama didn't raise no fool", so as long as I have Nutrish in my bowl, I guess I will hang around!! Have a Happy Halloween all!!!

8 Tips to Keep Your Cat Safe This Halloween

FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY; THIS POST FIRST APPEARED ON OCTOBER 3, 2014.

That wonderful time of year where we can hear the leaves crunch beneath our feet, ghouls and goblins lurk around every bend, delicious candy and snacks are plentiful, who wouldn't like such a fun holiday? Well, I'll tell you who....CATS that's who!! (for that matter dogs too, but that is something for Dakota  to handle, since this blog is devoted to CATS!!)

Halloween is right around the corner and can pose special dangers to our precious pets that we must be aware of. Let's "pawse" and reflect about these potential hazards:

1) Even if your cat is a social gadabout, do not let he/she out unattended on Halloween
(or near Halloween for that matter) Black cats are in greater danger than many others due to some evil minds that want to expose them to awful "tricks" on Halloween.

2) Always make sure your cat is either microchipped or wears a collar (good rule of thumb for all year), but especially if he/she becomes "spooked" at Halloween and takes off for parts unknown. By having the proper identification, should your cat "go missing", the odds of it being returned are much greater than if it had no identification at all.

3) CANDY IS A HAZARD!! That goes for candy wrappers as well. They can cause choking and chocolate can be toxic! Also candies that contain artificial sweeteners! Never, ever leave candy laying around unattended. Remember:"curiosity killed the cat"

4) Confine your cat to one room if you are hosting a party or when trick-or treaters are at your door.

5) Candles and lit pumpkins can be a hazard. Cats are naturally curious. Tails can be accidentally singed, fires can be started due to being knocked over. Opt for flameless candles instead.

6) I am not overly enthused about dressing cats up for Halloween, (or anytime, but YES, I have done it for a hot second to take photos and that is about it.) If you are determined to dress your cat up for Halloween please try the costume on ahead of time to see  how well he/she handles it. Make sure the costume enables her to see, breathe, hear and move around comfortably. Never leave the cat unattended while still in costume. If your cat struggles and balks at being dressed in a costume, for cat's sake, TAKE IT OFF!  I am more of a fan of a hat or bandana as Cody is wearing above.

7) Most Cats do not enjoy Halloween parties, parades and God Forbid Trick-or-Treating!! These events are  scary and are torture for your cat! Enter the cat's photo in an online photo contest instead. The noises  of parties, parades and being outside, as well as the  extra stimulation, are the purrfect invitation for the kitty to "exit stage left"

8) If you are leaving for the night, the same suggestions that I have mentioned for the 4th of July or anytime you will be away are the same for Halloween.  Leave the TV or radio on throughout the evening to distract the cat from outside noises that might be frightening.

Follow these tips to help ensure that you and your cat have a Halloween that is only full of kitty approved treats and totally trick-free!!

Non-Spooky #HALLOWEEN Kitties Featured At Six #Michigan # PetSmart Locations On OCT. 19

The Michigan Humane Society (MHS), in conjunction with the National PetSmart Halloween Costume Party, will be celebrating its adoptable black, white and orange “Halloween Kitties” by giving away special trick-or-treat goody bags with all “Halloween Kitty” adoptions at each of MHS’ six off-site PetSmart locations – in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Taylor and West Bloomfield – on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The usual thorough MHS adoption process will apply.

“The Michigan Humane Society looks forward to joining in the Halloween festivities at our PetSmart off-site cat adoption locations, in order to highlight our decidedly non-spooky black, orange and white cats who are looking for loving homes,” said CJ Bentley, Senior Director of Operations for the Michigan Humane Society. “In keeping with the Halloween theme, each cat or kitten adopter will not only walk away with a wonderful companion, but with a goody bag for their new pet.”
"Lola" by Wendy Hough

In addition, PetSmart will be hosting a costume party from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their animals dressed in costume for pictures against a Halloween backdrop. There will also be giveaways for pets in costume.

MHS is the original home of “Certified Pre-Owned Cats,” which are available in many makes and models. Each comes with a multi-point inspection, including spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, standard microchipping and more. For more information on adopting a pet from MHS, visit www.michiganhumane.org/adopt.

The Michigan Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in the state. MHS works to end companion animal homelessness, provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, and to be a leader in promoting humane values.
