The Detroit Zoo is located at 8450 W. 10 Mile Road in Royal Oak. There is no charge for admission or parking for the event, which takes place under large tents in the front parking lot. The event does not include admission to the zoo.

Adoption fees and policies are set by each participating group and not by event hosts or sponsors. Animals will be adopted only to qualified homes. Adopters must present a driver’s license or state ID card. All dogs and cats will have received a medical check-up and age-appropriate vaccinations. For health and safety reasons, please leave current pets at home.

Non-Spooky #HALLOWEEN Kitties Featured At Six #Michigan # PetSmart Locations On OCT. 19

 The Michigan Humane Society (MHS), in conjunction with the National PetSmart Halloween Costume Party, will be celebrating its adoptable black, white and orange “Halloween Kitties” by giving away special trick-or-treat goody bags with all “Halloween Kitty” adoptions at each of MHS’ six off-site PetSmart locations – in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Taylor and West Bloomfield – on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The usual thorough MHS adoption process will apply.

“The Michigan Humane Society looks forward to joining in the Halloween festivities at our PetSmart off-site cat adoption locations, in order to highlight our decidedly non-spooky black, orange and white cats who are looking for loving homes,” said CJ Bentley, Senior Director of Operations for the Michigan Humane Society. “In keeping with the Halloween theme, each cat or kitten adopter will not only walk away with a wonderful companion, but with a goody bag for their new pet.”

In addition, PetSmart will be hosting a costume party from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their animals dressed in costume for pictures against a Halloween backdrop. There will also be giveaways for pets in costume.

MHS is the original home of “Certified Pre-Owned Cats,” which are available in many makes and models. Each comes with a multi-point inspection, including spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, standard microchipping and more. This bed is super soft, the interior is made out of a cushy fleece and it has become one of my favorites! Mom could kick herself because she took photos of me IN the bed which were lost on her fried computer. You can see from the pillow indentation that I DO use this bed! The pillow is also reversible! (The opposite side has the same pattern as the side of the bed). Mom keeps a stash of my toys there so that I have furiends to sleep with as well!

Mom has always been a huge fan of Laurel Burch's items, she has a purse, pajamas and many other items that were designed by her. Mom LOVES the artistic appearance of these toys and the fact that they are safe (There are NO SMALL BELLS, which Mom HATES on cat toys, they are a CHOKING HAZARD!) and these appear to be super well made.

Mom and I were BOTH super impressed with this dangle toy! There are RIBBONS!!  It is called the Ribbon Streamer w/Feather Boa Cat Teaser! There are few cat danglers on the market with ribbon and Mom and I both thought this was pretty darned clever. They float through the breeze just BEGGING me to come closer!

Can you see how MESMERIZED I am by the ribbons and feathers? This is such a fun toy and I love to watch it gliding ever-so-smoothly in the breeze. Mom said she loved how my attention was just riveted on this toy!

Michigan Humane Society to open EIGHTH Off-Site Adoption Location at PetSmart in Ann Arbor

Expansion of successful adoption program

 means more animals Going Home

Following a year in which more than 8,000 animals found loving homes through its adoption programs, the Michigan Humane Society (MHS), the state’s oldest and largest animal welfare organization, is expanding its off-site adoption program to an eighth location at PetSmart in Ann Arbor. 

The grand opening feline adoption events

 will take place this Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3.

Preparing the adoption area

“We are so incredibly grateful to the wonderful staff at PetSmart for inviting us into their community,” said CJ Bentley, MHS senior director of Operations. “We share the goal of seeing more pets going home to happy families. Our off-site adoption program has helped thousands of homeless animals find loving homes, and we’re looking forward to seeing that happen here in Ann Arbor.”

The adoption events will take place Saturday, Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ann Arbor PetSmart, located at 2865 Oak Valley Drive. Following the grand opening, MHS adoptable cats will be available for adoption seven days a week during regular store hours. The store will house between eight and 12 adoptable cats and kittens, all of whom will be ready to go home with their new families the day they are adopted. The adoption process mirrors that at MHS’ three adoption centers.

Adoption fees for MHS cats and kittens at each off-site location are $65 each or $95 for a pair. All have been microchipped, spayed or neutered, received age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed and tested for feline leukemia. New adoptable cats will arrive each week. The store will also hold regular weekend adoption events that will feature adoptable dogs, puppies and rabbits.

MHS’ off-site adoption program, which now comprises seven PetSmart locations and one Petco location, is part of a campaign called Going Home. This initiative expands current life-saving programs and partnerships to find more good homes for pets while keeping more animals in their loving homes through challenging times.  It may be the dog days of summer, but the MichiganHumane Society (MHS) is bursting at the seams with felines – cats and kittens ready for you to drive them home today! In order to get them out of our showrooms and into good homes, for a limited time only, MHS is offering our best deal ever. Starting this Saturday, July 7 and running for a limited time, every MHS cat or kitten is eligible for our “Lease to Adopt” program. Lessees can take home an MHS Certified Pre-Owned Cat for up to four months, and if they are not completely convinced they have found their new best friend, they can return the cat to MHS which will in turn find the feline a new home.  

Best of all, lessees don’t have to pay a single cent for many of the maintenance costs that come with taking home an MHS Certified Pre-Owned Cat. Compliments of Purina and MHS, the Free Maintenance Package provides lessees with cat food and litter at no additional cost to them for the duration of the lease. The lease package also includes standard microchipping, sterilization and any necessary vaccinations, as well as any additional required veterinary care at no cost (up to $750).

"Tahlullah", Adoptable Tortie Tuesday

No, I didn't adopt another cat, but I almost did.

Yesterday I had to run over to PetSmart to pick up some toothpaste and toothbrushes for Cody and Dakota and while I was there I decided to take a walk over to the area where the cats that are available for adoption are located. It is normally a mistake for me to do this because I have a terribly hard time leaving once I see the precious faces that need a forever home.

This trip to PetSmart was even harder. I looked into the cages, thankfully there were only 2 cats available, (the cashier told me they had had a super successful adoption weekend last week which was great news). But one of the cats wasn't as lucky.

I normally don't post about cats that I just meet at random when I stroll through PetSmart, but this one was different. Her eyes met mine, she flirted with me and my husband by rolling over onto her back and showing us her lovely belly, her paws touched the window of her cage beckoning us closer,  she pulled out all the stops.

All of this happened without her ever setting a paw outside of her cage. I didn't dare pick her up because if I had, I know that would have been it. I would have never been able to put her back.

This cat has an aura about her, she exudes love and warmth, she may be 8 yrs old but I could tell she was full of kitten-like fun-loving ways.

 This cat is PERSONALITY PLUS.

This was one of those times that I wish I lived in a house. Sadly, my husband and I live in a 2 bedroom condo and we are only permitted to have 2 pets. We have our two. When I was reading about Tahlullah it didn't say anything about her being good with dogs and we do have a Sheltie.

This cat touched me so deeply that I woke up thinking about her this morning. I performed multiple searches until I found her.

 This wasn't the post I was going to do for today but I feel a compulsion to help this cat with such a magnetic personality find a home.

She is an explorer and is recommended for a home with children five years and older. Tahlullah is litterbox trained and current on all vaccinations.

A New Litter Box Deserves Nothing But The BEST-We Love World's Best Cat Litter!

The timing couldn't have been more perfect.  Around the time of my birthday, my Mom and I were given the opportunity of testing/reviewing World's Best Cat Litter.

Mom tried her hardest but after spending hours trying to put the box together she had to have her friend Cheryl come and finish it for her.

 and left the old litter box in the bathroom for a few days.

They even sent me this great mat to catch the litter. My Mom LOVES that this litter doesn't track all over the floor as much as the other litters that Mom used to buy for me.

This is how World's Best Litter looks in the litter tray. Don't worry! Mom scooped it and FLUSHED IT so you wouldn't see my "business"!! (yep, this litter is FLUSHABLE! It is safe for septic tanks, whatever those are). That is one of Mom's favorite parts of this litter. She also likes that it is:

That way, when I lick my paws and clean myself I am not eating all of that gravelly old litter that I used to eat. I am eating something that won't hurt me or cause a blockage. Mom was worried at first about my allergies possibly flaring up with this litter, but so far so good!! I haven't had any flareups!


Mom also likes that this litter works great on litter box smells (she did notice that World's Best Cat Litter  now has a new lavender scented formula  and she is waiting for that to be in the stores so she can buy it because she loves the scent of lavender).


Mom was very happy that she can purchase this litter at three stores that aren't far from our house! (PetSmart, Kroger and Pet Supplies Plus!)
