Friday Find! Thirsty Cat Fountains And A Give-Away!

Hi everyone it's Cody! I am here to tell you about a catabulous product that I was lucky enough to try, and YOU are going to have a chance to win one for yourself!

We had an ongoing problem in our house. I wouldn't drink out of my own water bowl. I would only drink out of Dakota's bowl and Mom was worried that because of my food allergies that wasn't a good idea.
Ancient and oh-so-blurry
photo of me drinking from Dakota's bowl
before he got his new feeder
and before I got my new fountain!

Mom tried everything. All sorts of cute bowls were put before me, but nope, I wouldn't use them.

Mom wasn't able to make it to BlogPaws this past summer but Kate Benjamin from ModernCat was kind enough to send Mom all sorts of info about the new
Catification Lounge! Mom was so excited when she read about these GORGEOUS cat fountains that looked like works of art called:
Mom had a feeling these fountains would be the answer to her prayers, so she contacted the talented Keith Davitt who sells these great fountains on his Etsy Shop , and asked if he would be interested in being featured on our blog. Much to Mom's (and my) excitement he agreed! He even sent me my OWN fountain! Check it out!

CORRECTION FROM CODY: I just received an email from Keith informing me that my Mom did not assemble my fountain correctly.

My mother is not the most adept at assembly and following instructions and it certainly wasn't her intent to cause anyone "embarrassment" by not having the fountain properly put together.

These wonderful fountains come with a HAND-MADE CERAMIC LEAF OR SHELL which should not be standing on the side as Mom has depicted it. The purpose of the hand-made ceramic leaf or shell is to cover the cord or feedthrough INSIDE the fountain. NOT as Mom has shown them in the photo. The properly assembled fountain looks like this:

Once again Mom and I apologize for putting the fountain together incorrectly but you know what? I'm a cat and all I care about is that the water tastes good when I drink it and that the fountain is beautiful.

From Keith's Etsy shop: "Cats need to drink enough water and it is well known that cats much prefer moving water. Whether flowing up, down or sideways, these fountains encourage your cats to drink, contributing to their health, with none of the negative effects that come from China-made or plastic cat fountains or fountains with difficult to clean corners. As to food-safeness, a lack of lead in the glaze is not sufficient. Has the glaze been tested for leaching of colorants or other chemical components in the glaze? Ours have."

Not convinced your cat will use one? I am the KING of shunning new things! LOOK AND LISTEN!! The sound of the bubbling water just might put you to sleep.

Mom and I think this fountain is superb. We couldn't be happier and my water tastes the best it has ever tasted!
GIVE-AWAY! Keith was kind enough to offer one lucky reader of Cat Chat (U.S. only please) a fountain of their own! If you would like to win one please leave a comment telling us why you would like a fountain by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH AT 11PM EST.

  6. That's such a nice, functional drinking fountain. It looks so simple to clean too, unlike the one Mommy got for us sometime ago which we avoided. Mommy didn't like that it was so difficult to clean too. Good luck to everyone who's in the draw!

  9. Now this in looks different and interesting, and Cody loves it it appears.

A few weeks ago we bought the Drinkwell Platnium fountain as we we sick of the cats meowing to turn on the faucet in the bathrooms for a drink. They love their new fountain and we are thrilled as well.

  10. That does look pretty darn good and Cody sure does like it. We would love to have one. We sure hope the person can hook it up but we bet she could find someone to help her. Bet the dogs would like it too. Thanks for offering this Keith. Take care.

  11. Oh Cody, that fountain is so cute! I think you can wash your face there. m Or may be you can ask your mom to put some fish in it as well. Just saying. : ))

  12. That fountain is just lovely. We would love to have one for in the house. Mommy put our Drinkwell in the garage and we just has a plastic bowl (would you believe it is a container that Mommy bought pulled pork in at the grocery store) to us in the house. At least Fenris rated an old Tupperware bowl. ~Socks & Scylla

  16. I would love to try this fountain. As you know, I haven't drank water in 2 years and TW is desperately looking for new bowls/fountains to try. She spent lots of green papers she doesn't have on the Drinkwell 360 and I haven't looked at it. She says this fountain looks like one of those HoMedics fountains that they sell in Walgreens. She's afraid that not drinking water will hurt me as I get older. This is for medical reasons, not just cos I want to win something.

  18. Oh Wow! What a great give away! Our water bowl right now is one of Mommy's mixing bowls. The hairy slobbery sisters is very adept at knocking it over! Now me has lots to think about and me is going to hide.

  19. that fountain is lovely!!! we would love to have one. mom keeps saying that is the next buy - our old mancat Maestro likes his water VERY fresh and sometimes mom can't keep up (and she doesn't approve of those plastic fountains)

  20. Oh, and mom liked you on facebook (we don't have a page up)

  21. How beautiful! Santa brought our guys a fountain for Christmas last year and they LOVE it. They really do drink so much more water since we have it... but w/so many babies at our house, it seems like someone is always waiting to get at the fountain. {we have other water bowls, but they prefer the fountain water}. They would absolutely love to have this lovely fountain to drink from {and I think it's beautiful!}

  22. How cool. Our kitty friend Phoebes would love that thing

  23. Oh my goodness, Cody -- you drank and drank and drank, like a FISH! MOL. I've never seen a cat drink so much at one time.

I would love to win because I have really been wanting to get a fountain for my three cats, and this one looks really great.

    Thanks for a terrific review!

  24. My cats love running water - they try to drink from the bathroom sink when I'm trying to wash my face. They climb into the shower to get some of the dripping water. So I would love to have this fountain for my two cats.

Too bad we're a Canadian cat family!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh my gosh!! I LOVE this so much!! My babies would go nuts over this! I have leaks in my roof so I have to keep pots on the floor and they are so fascinated when the water drips into it they also have started drinking out of it cause they're so intrigued by it! This seems like it would be the PERFECT solution to pot rain water.. since I can't seem to get them to drink out of they stationary water dish, lol!!

  32. I also liked both of the FB pages as Wicked Karma Jewelry

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thank you...Once again, you guys have made Mom aware of something she never thought of..contamination through share water dishes. This fountain would be the answer to Mom's (and our)problem.

  34. So glad that Cody is using his new fountain! We used to have a plastic one, which was a pain to clean, especially after the Dude started playing with food in it. All 4 cats are fans of fresh faucet water, so it would be great to win this.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My fivesome (4 cats and 1 chihuahua) adore the fountain they have. They love running water This would be a nice addition

    ReplyDelete
  36. We love these fountains and think they are quite beautiful. We also think you are one of the best of the best when it comes to reviews, Caren and Cody, so I found it important that you let us know you put the fountain together wrong. We all make mistakes and this way whoever wins the fountain will know for sure where the shell goes!! Cody sure did love this fountain and I know my kitties would love one too!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's a beauteous fountain and so nice and quiet! The Human has been afraid to buy a fountain cause she thought it would be loud and it would scare me. But that looks wonderful! Cody, you look so adorable lapping up your water! I want that fountain!! I wanna drink like Cody!

  39. I'm thinking I'm so set in my ways that I'd never use it and since I'm great about drinking from my bowl, I'm sure someone else would get more use out of this super fountain than me. BUT, I do want to let you know Cody that I nominated you for a blog award - yep - Addictive Blog Award (no surprise there since I LOVE your blog!)....come see me at http://onespoiledcat.wordpress.com/2012/09/01/bling-o-licious-blog/ to get your award icon!

  40. I'd like my cats to win a beautiful fountain. I've bought several from the pet store that the cats don't like, or are hard to clean and they are always ugly. I'd love one the cats like and that looks nice in the living room.

  44. It looks like a quality fountain to me. We've tried others in the past and eventually they all stop working. This one seems simply to disassemble for cleaning (once you get the hang of it).

Of course, being in Canada many things are not available to us. Aw shucks!

  45. Our lord cat, Koma, rejects his water bowl, preferring our decorative water fountain, which he nearly empties daily. Recently he has insisted on my 'hand fountain' in my bathroom sink. Trouble is, he wants to drink longer than my hand can stand cupping the cold water. I would be happy to prov ide pictures of both current 'fountains'.

Koma and my hand thank you!

  46. We would love to win one as our cats are obsessed with running water! As much as they would like, we cannot keep the water running for our cats.

  60. I run a private cat sanctuary in memory of my daughter, who died unexpectedly 11 years ago. I am presently caring for 40 cats - all ferals that I trapped, had neutered and vaccinated. They now have their own two-story home and a fenced-in cat play yards. Since the cat house has electricity, a water fountain would be a most welcomed and appreciated addition!

    ReplyDelete
  61. AWESOME! My cats have developed such a bad habit, which I have reinforced of course of drinking from the faucet...every time I go into the bathroom they expect me to turn the faucet on for them! THIS fountain would be PURR-fect for them, all seven!

  62. I would love to get the water fountain for my kitties. They are always trying to drink from the sink. Thanks.

  63. This looks interesting! Maggie will NOT drink out of the big water bowl. She never would. When she came to us at 1 year old she saw the dogs drink out of it. She had never seen a dog, and she would/wll not drink out of that bowl. The dogs are gone, over the rainbow now. Different bowl. Still NO. She uses a water dish on the bathroom counter and one on a kitchen counter. *LOL* Grizelda & Chloe are not so picky. In fact Grizelda thinks she's a plumber. ;-)

  75. Cody, your mom and mine are like....100% alike. I would have done that too and maybe even MORE! Mom is horrible at assembling anything. I have no idea how she manages to get a letter into an envelope!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Cody! Aren't you just the luckiest thing to come across a nice man like that!! And lucky to have a mom who goes to that kind of trouble for your good health, yay! That is just the coolest little fountain and we for sure could use a thing like that around here (being so many kitties sharing the same water bowls!). I'm definitely gonna have to pop over to his Etsy shop and check it out. Just a shame we live so far away and can't ever the contest. Anyhow, what fun you get to have with a lucky winner.
Cheers! and thanks so much for sharing.

  88. My name is Cowboy and I almost died because of an angry bladder that get's so stressed that I can't urinate. My mom has spent all her savings on having me in and out of the emergency vet. I am somewhat better now that I am on a bladder relaxing med but it is not meant for long term and I can't seem to do without it. My doc says that the intake of liquids is so important in my diet. My mom has changed me to a canned diet. I don't wanna drink because I know it hurts my bladder to urinate. Our doc thought I might like a water fountain so that it would be more fun and give me a little more incentive to drink. Right now my mom puts syringes full of water in my mouth several times a day. We would both love to have a fountain like this so I might be able to get off my medicine and give my mom a rest. We are good buddies and she is afraid of losing me.
