Humorous and Cute Cat Book:"Get Your Butt Off My Face" by Rosa Silva

Looking for a stocking stuffer for the holidays or a cute book for the cat lover in your life for a "just because" gift? Look no further:

Whether you have been the proud cat parent of one cat or ten, you will be able to relate to being woken by or greeted by a cat butt in your face! Sometimes it's hilarious, sometimes just plain gross.

FROM THE AUTHOR:

"Have you ever woken up and suddenly realized your cat's butt is right in your face? I know I have. In fact, my cat seems to make an effort to show me his butthole every chance he gets. Instead of getting upset, I decided to laugh it off, and write this hilarious book."

Not only does Author Rosa Silva have a funny take on cat butts in our faces but she also addresses how cats will quite often do the exact opposite of what we want them to do. From treating toys we think they will love with disdain, to biting us when we think they want to be petted. Cat lovers everywhere will be able to relate to the examples of cat quirkiness in this clever book that will put a smile on your face!!

"You are indeed a curious cat,

if I feed you kibble, you want a rat,

If I buy you a brand-new bed,

you sleep on the couch instead."

The illustrations by Diana Necsulescu are just purrfect! Vibrant and funny!

"Get Your Butt Off Of My Face" is a funny bedtime (or anytime) book for all the desperate cat owners ou there. This laugh-out-loud book reveals cats at their wackiest and performing their most exasperating behavior. "

I was sent a complimentary copy of this book by the author MANY months ago! I was not compensated for featuring this book.

It's Summer and for this Kitty the Livin' is Easy!

Hi my furiends! The Summer Solstice officially arrived in the Eastern Time Zone at exactly 11:54 am !! Today will be the LONGEST day of 2019 for anyone living north of the equator.

It wouldn't be the first day of Summer without me repeating the song that I first posted on Cat Chat on June 21st 2010, (it was called "Cat Chat" back then), it has now become our little tradition...Enjoy!

This should be Meowed or sung to the tune of Mungo Jerry's classic "In The Summertime".......

"purr purr-purr uh, purr purr-purr, uh

purr purr-purr, uh, purr purr-purr, uh..."

"In the summertime when the weather is hot

You can stretch right out and be on your favorite cot,

When the weather's fine

You got playing, you got romping on your mind

Have some nip, have a climb

Go out and see what you can find"

"If her Daddy's rich, take her out for some filet,

If her Daddy's poor, just stay in and play,

Speed around the house,

really speed, really speeeed big time my friend,

When the sun goes down, you can make it

make it home before day's end"

"We're no threat, we kitties, we're not dirty, we're not mean

We love everybody, but we do as we please

When the weather's fine

We go fishing or go climbing up some trees

We're always happy

Life's for living, yeah that's our "felineosophy"

"Sing along with us, mew-mew-mew-mew-mew

purr-purr-purr-purr-purr yeah, we're hap-happy.......

mew-mew-mew-mew-mew...."

"Purr purr-purr, uh, purr purr-purr, uh

Purr purr-purr, uh, purr purr-purr, uh...."

"When the winter's here, yeah it's sleepy time

Bring a toy mouse

Wear your finest fur, it'll soon be summertime

And we'll sing again

We'll go jumpin' or maybe we'll settle down

If she's got "noms" or if she's got mice

Bring your kitty friends and we'll all go into town...."

Happy First Day Of Summer All!!

Make This A Great Summer For You And Your Favorite Felines!!

Thanks to Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime" for the inspiration for this parody.

Cat Offers 3 Tips On How To Avoid: Take Your Cat To The Vet Day #Cat2VetDay

FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY: Portions of this post appeared in 2016 on Take Your Cat To The Vet Day. We liked it so much are so lazy, we wanted to repeat it this year with some modifications.  And...don't listen to Cody TOO MUCH. My husband and I are HUGE advocates for pet wellness visits and we make sure that we are not strangers at the Vet's office!! Since Cody is a senior kitty we have wellness visits TWICE a year and any other time we deem necessary. We are  blessed that we go to:

 DePorre Veterinary Hospital
here in Michigan
 which is a:

(For a list of Cat Friendly Practices in YOUR area, click here)
Now that we made everyone feel better, read on and enjoy!!! Take it away Cody!!

================================================================

Hi my furiends!!! It's Cody and as many of you already know, today is *******(Bring or Take) Your Cat to the (dreaded) Vet Day better known as Mom, Dad,  "Dr.Smiley" and his evil assistant get a good laugh day at MY expense!

******* (According to Days of the Year it is "Take Your Cat To The Vet Day",  catvets.com  is referring to it as "Bring Your Cat To the Vet Day" the message is the same!)

This photo is from a previous visit to Dr.Smiley's Evil Laboratory
Just for the record, Dr.Smiley and Gabby
are really NOT evil!!!

Well, this is ONE CAT who is NOT going to the Vet today (Don't get nervous!! I AM going in September for my Wellness exam and my annual Rabies shot!!! )

Anyway kitties, if YOU want to avoid a trip to the Vet, let me tell you what I have done in the past to delay that dreaded trip! You can take these tips and apply them to your own house, or come up with better ones of your own!

TIP #1 BE OBSERVANT!!!

One day I was minding my own business, resting on a chair during the dark and quiet wee hours of the morning trying to drown out the relentless droning of Big Brother After Dark that Mom is obsessed with. My PTU (Personal Transport Unit for those who haven't been blogging long), is always kept in the living room with BOTH doors open. I will often slink into it's cozy, furry, blanket padded depths to get some much needed slumber. That night/morning something unusual happened. The rotund one actually moved off of the couch and closed one of the doors on my PTU. I WAS ON HIGH ALERT!!!! KITTIES! THAT IS A WARNING!! THAT MEANS YOU ARE GOING TO THE VET AND THEY ARE LEAVING ONE DOOR OPEN AT THE TOP SO THEY CAN PUT THROW YOU INTO YOUR PTU AND LOCK YOU IN FOR WHAT FEELS LIKE FOREVER!!!!!! I was beginning to formulate a plan, but didn't want to act prematurely. I  decided to see what else would happen that was out of the ordinary, and if strange things continued, I would spring into action!!

TIP #2 WATCH FOR A CHANGE  IN ROUTINE!!!

Normally, every morning I am on the couch getting some  much-needed rest, (I am already fed because Dad gets up early to feed Sheltie boy and I while Mom snores away.) Mom usually says good morning to Sheltie Boy and then forgets that I exist. Well, that day, after her usual morning greeting, Mom walked over to me and started petting me and cooing. Then, I heard her start telling Dad, "I hope he stays there, this will be MUCH EASIER." ONCE AGAIN, I WAS ON HIGH ALERT!!!  "THIS WILL BE MUCH EASIER?" I KNEW WHAT THAT MEANT!!!! I strolled into the kitchen and figured if I showed Mom and Dad my ample belleh, (which they LOVE to pet), they would be so overcome with my adorableness that they would be distracted.

More talk followed...Mom said "Oh no!! He's off of the couch! He will soon disappear and I won't find him!!" I WAS OUTTA THERE!!!!!

TIP #3 BEGIN TO PUT YOUR PLAN INTO ACTION

Find the MESSIEST closet or room in the house and GET THERE FAST!!!!!!

Observe the photo above. My hiding spot of choice is in the messy closet that is in Mom's our office, (that she never uses). That white closet door doesn't open properly for humans, which is PURRFECT for me! That pink PTU was Angel Bobo's, (why she got a pink PTU for a male cat is beyond me, but I digress....) and I love to sleep there. When I go there, I feel Angel Bobo's spirit, and I know that  I am SAFE! Mom can't fit her fat-filled arms into that tiny space to get me because the door on the PTU opens TOWARDS her. I can get in, but SHE CAN'T!!!

I waited til I heard Mom say, "I don't feel like, stressing Cody or myself out today, I can't reach him when he is in Bobo's carrier, it's much too hard.   I am going to reschedule his appointment. It's just a shot and it can wait."

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Once I heard Mom on the phone with Dr.Smiley's evil assistants saying something about "being stupid because she forgot to barricade the closet", and I heard something about  rescheduling, I waited til I noticed that  the chauffeur,  Dad,  had left to run errands. Once he was out of the house I knew I was safe!!!! That day Mom re-scheduled the appointment for the end of August, thankfully, TOTALLY forgetting that August 22nd is (Take or)  Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day! At about 8:30 am (which would have been more than enough time to stuff me into my PTU had Mom not already canceled the appointment), I   nonchalantly strolled out of the closet and went back....WHERE? Why the COUCH of course!!!

YAY FOR ME!!!

FROM THE MOM: While Cody DID successfully sabotage a trip to the Vet that day, he was by NO MEANS out of the woods! He ended up  going to the Vet at the end of that month!!! In our house we are firm believers in "wellness visits", (going to the Vet for check-ups when all is fine, and not waiting for an illness or a crisis to present itself), and keeping up with NECESSARY vaccines, (if applicable!)

Infographic courtesy of   Cat2VetDay

Wellness visits are important because they can often detect problems that could be cropping up. By catching a potential problem EARLY it can help avoid some costly vet bills! Preventative care is important for humans and it is equally as important for our cats (and dogs!!!)

FROM CODY: Ok, so Dr.Smiley isn't really so bad, he is quite nice really, but I am not thrilled with being called overweight and getting poked, prodded and having a shot, even if I DO know how important it is. So kitties, what have YOU done to escape going to the Vet? Share YOUR tips because I can always use a few new ones!!

Oh and my FINAL tip for today?

KITTIES....WATCH YOUR BACK!!!!!!!!!!

Love, Cody

Cat Humor: "I"M NOT SORRY: Poems By Cats" by Rosa Silva (International Give-Away!)

About the book
These cats have destroyed curtains, scratched couches, bitten hands, shredded toilet paper… and they are not sorry. Now they decided to celebrate their achievements in these insightful and funny poems written by themselves.

With titles like “It’s 6 a.m., time to wake up”, “I hate the vet”, “Oops, I did it again”, “Let me in”, and “Red dot, red dot”, this collection of laugh-out-loud poems offers a cat's view on common wacky and exasperating feline behavior. It’s the perfect gift for crazy cat lovers who appreciate hilarious insights into the feline nature.

FROM CAT CHAT WITH CAREN AND CODY:I am not sure if any of you know but today is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day.  After reading "I'm Not Sorry:Poems By Cats" by Rosa Silva, we have decided there should be a new holiday named after this book, "I'M NOT SORRY" DAY!

When Cody has done something particularly bratty or even a little bad, I will look at him after he has been reprimanded and marvel at how he is completely nonplussed that he has just been yelled at. He will either go right back and do what he got in trouble for to begin with, or go on to something else. The bottom line is he is definitely NOT SORRY. Truth be told, I bet most, make that ALL of your kitties, when they do something wrong, aren't sorry either!

When Author Silva extended the offer for me to review this witty book, after I saw the title, I knew it would be right up my alley and I was right! It is the purrfect book for you too!

The poems are written by various cats with names such as: Mr.Fuzzybottom Stinkypants, The Third The Quatrain Master (I am hoping one of you will be honest enough to admit that YOU had to look up what a "quatrain" was too!!)

One of my favorite poems in this book was written by Petey O'Malley The Most Shameless Cat In The World:

It's 6 a.m., it's time to eat.
It's 9 a.m., it's time for a treat,
It's 11 a.m., it's time for brunch.
It's 2 p.m., it's time for lunch.
It's 4 p.m., it's time for a snack.
It's 6 p.m., I could eat a macaque.
It's 8 p.m., it's time for dinner.
I'm sure this diet will make me thinner.

Ok so I LOL'D AND MOL'D at this one! It is not only a peek into Cody's day, but I am pretty certain it is a peek into the day of one of YOUR cats too! That's what makes  "I'm Not Sorry: Poems By Cats" a delight, the humor is universal. Anyone and everyone who has ever lived with, loved (and sometimes hated) their cat, can relate to this book! Oh and guess what, our cats will readily admit that they sometimes hate us too! (By the way, who else had to look up the word macaque in the poem above? Please tell me you had to also!)

Don't let the size of this book fool you, it might be small, but the content is purr pure genius! It's not easy for these kitties to convey their mischief as poems and they are purrfectly written. Cody and I give this book a resounding 4 PAWS UP! Author Rosa Silva obviously is adept at understanding not only HER kitty muse, but she has a PURRFECT understanding of cats as a whole. Wait til you read the "O Christmas Tree" poem, you will see for yourself!  For More info visit:

You are in luck! Rosa has generously allowed me to do a give-away! One person who is 18 and over and who is located ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, can win a copy! Hilarious Cat Book: "Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep" By Rosa Silva Illustrated by Diana Necsulescu (With Give-Away!!!)

Finally a cat book that pokes fun
at the "darker" side of living with cats!!!

I knew the second I first read that one of my favorite cat-people, Rosa Silva, was publishing a book, and the second that I read the title,   Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep, that this book would be right up my alley! I was right, it TOTALLY is!

While I am insanely in love with cats, I would be lying if I said that every single moment was all sunshine and roses. Cats rule our homes, they rule our lives. While cuddly and endearing, they can be annoying little "SOBs"!! If you are saying that your cat(s) are perfect, I am calling you out on a BIG. FAT. LIE.

While I adore my cat, Cody, (and Angel Bobo,  "the one who came before"), there are (and have been) moments that have been beyond exasperating. Moments where I have called my kitties names involving "HBO words". Many of the moments that have been particularly annoying,  have involved trying to sleep when a cat has decided it is time to be AWAKE, because they have other things that they are thinking of. For many cats, and my Angel Bobo, those thoughts usually involve playtime, but Cody's thoughts always involve FOOD. The relentless quest for food. In our case, it is my husband who is the poor "victim" who loses sleep, because he does the morning feedings and because I can pretty much sleep through anything But, even I have my moments where Cody's incessant meowing is on my last nerve, and I will yell at him to "SHUT THE F*CK UP!!"  Not to be deterred, Cody will meow incessantly, jump back and forth across my husband's weary head, cry, knock things over, and more.  He will do anything in his quest to wake my poor husband up.

Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep by Rosa Silva, addresses these moments in a nod-your-head-in-recognition accompanied by belly laughs kind of way, in a style reminiscent of children's books, but in this case, the book is definitely for ADULTS ONLY!!

FROM THE PUBLISHER:

For all the crazy cat lovers out there, sometimes that crazy could be because your feline friend will not let you get any sleep.

Inspired by, and in the tradition of Cortes and Mansbach’s adults-only bedtime story, Go the F*ck to Sleep, Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep is a funny take on the frustrations of losing sleep because of a feline friend. The struggle is real.

Anyone who is a cat lover knows that the cat rules the roost, and that certainly doesn’t change at bedtime. You might be ready to sleep, but you can bet that kitty is ready for just about anything but some shut-eye. Release your frustrations with a good laugh as you read along with Rosa and her struggle to get Mr. Cat to Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep!

Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep is a funny bedtime book for all the desperate cat parents out there. If you have experienced the nightmare of having a kitty who won’t let you have a good night’s sleep, this is the book for you. It’s the perfect gift for crazy cat lovers who appreciate hilarious insights into the feline nature.

What I love about this book:

It is small in size
and length.  . It is just the pick-me-up needed when you need a laugh, (especially when you are tired from being kept up by your cat!)

It would make a great gift for any cat lover!
Be it a get-well gift, a "newly-adopted-cat" gift (hehehe), a birthday gift, it would be a gift that would be sure to make the recipient smile.

Each page is written as a rhyme
and is accompanied by vibrant and darling illustrations by Diana Necsulescu

It is FUN!!
I think many of us can use some fun in our lives right now and Stop Meowing and Go the F*ck to Sleep By Rosa Silva fits the bill purrfectly.

I learned something new
Knowing author Rosa Silva as I THOUGHT (the operative word being "THOUGHT" that I did!), hearing her even utter a frustrated thought about her beloved Mr.Cat, or utter an objectionable word would be something that I would NEVER expect. I LOVE books with unexpected "gifts" and the "gift" for me, (other than the obvious, that this book totally cracked me up!),  was learning something new about Rosa. It endeared her to me even more!

My Cat Offers 3 Tips On How To Avoid: Take Your Cat To The Vet Day #Cat2VetDay

Hi my furiends!!! It's Cody and as many of you already know, today is *******(Bring or Take) Your Cat to the (dreaded) Vet Day better known as Mom, Dad,  "Dr.Smiley" and his evil assistant get a good laugh day at MY expense!

are really NOT evil!!!

Well, this is ONE CAT who is NOT going to the Vet today, and who managed to avoid that sordid experience last Wednesday when I was scheduled, (mind you, the operative word here is "scheduled") to go to the Vet for my annual Rabies shot. (Maybe I need to remind them that I am an INDOOR cat, I AM NOT A DOG!!!!! )

Anyway kitties, if YOU want to avoid a trip to the Vet, let me tell you how I got out of my appointment! You can take these tips and apply them to your own house, or come up with better ones of your own!

TIP #1 BE OBSERVANT!!!

It all started last Tuesday night. I was minding my own business, resting on a chair during the dark and quiet wee hours of the morning trying to drown out the relentless droning of Big Brother After Dark that Mom is obsessed with. My PTU (Personal Transport Unit for those who haven't been blogging long), is always kept in the living room with BOTH doors open. Mom re-scheduled the appointment for the end of August, thankfully, TOTALLY forgetting that August 22nd is (Take or)  Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day! At about 8:30 am (which would have been more than enough time to stuff me into my PTU had Mom not already canceled the appointment), I   nonchalantly strolled out of the closet and went back....WHERE? Why the COUCH of course!!!

YAY FOR ME!!! I AM "VET-FREE" til the end of August!!! Kitties you MUST try these tips yourself!!!!

FROM THE MOM: While Cody DID successfully sabotage a trip to the Vet he is by NO MEANS out of the woods! He WILL be going to the Vet at the end of the month!!! In our house we are firm believers in "wellness visits", (going to the Vet for check-ups when all is fine, and not waiting for an illness or a crisis to present itself), and keeping up with required vaccines.

Love, Cody

Kitties! I am a victim of BODY SHAMING!!!

Hi my furiends!! It's Cody! Today I am somewhat upset, make that hissing angry!! You see, I cannot begin to tell you just how INSULTING AND DISRESPECTFUL my Mom was to me the other day!

It all started the day before she went in for her procedure (had the insult occurred the day after, I could have blamed it on the anesthesia, but alas, no such luck for my Mom.) The insult was made when she was TOTALLY in her "right mind", (whatever that is, but that's another story all together!)

Mom had looked at me while she was working on her computer. I was staring at her because it was time for my midday repast and I was wondering just WHAT was taking her so long to tend to my needs, when suddenly, she BURST OUT LAUGHING. SHE KEPT LOOKING AT ME AND LAUGHED AND LAUGHED AND LAUGHED.

I waited to see just how long it would take her to let me in on the joke.

She then proceeded to tell me that the way I was sitting made my body shape look EXACTLY like....ready for this?

A PEAR!!!!

Observe my expression and you will see just how upset I was by that disgusting comment.

Kitties, can you tell that I was NOT amused?

Has this woman taken a look at HERSELF in a mirror lately? Obviously NOT!!   I bet when they wheeled her in for her procedure, they had WIDE LOAD emblazoned on the hospital gurney!!!!!

Then, to add insult to injury, Mom said because I am chewing everything I can get my paws on (from envelopes, to the leaves on my cat tree, to plastic, you name it, I'm all over it), my mouth is so swollen that Mom said she had to EDIT MY PHOTO to make me look DECENT!!!! THE NERVE!!!

Mom went into the Super Photo App that many others are using, then she went to Ribbet for some more tinkering.

Kitties, I ask you, am I not PERFECT just the way I am? Must I endure these insults and disrespect? Have YOU ever been insulted in such a callous way?

I hope on Mom's next procedure that she passes stones the size of LAVA ROCKS spewing from ALL of the Hawaiian volcanoes!!!

Now...if you will excuse me, I have a treat dispenser just waiting for some action...from...ME!!!

Love, Cody

Cats! Enter to win the hilarious book:Texts From Mittens by Angie Bailey

I LOVE CATS but I don't love certain white cats with bows, who shall remain nameless, or books about cats that are so sweet that they make my blood sugar shoot through the ceiling. I'm not "sweet" and I don't care for "sweet", well, unless they are photos/drawings/real-life kittens, but I digress...

I LOVE TO LAUGH.  My preferred humor is dry, sarcastic, snide, something with an edge.

I LOVE PEOPLE WHO LOVE CATS. People who convey that they understand the way  cats think and who appreciate everything about them.

I LOVE PEOPLE AND WRITERS WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR which is why I LOVE ANGIE BAILEY the author of whiskerslist:the kitty classifieds and her latest comedic gem: Texts from Mittens:A Cat Who Has an Unlimited Data Plan...and Isn't Afraid to Use It.  It encompasses all that I love!

Angie Bailey has the uncanny ability to think like a cat, or, to think like a cat in a way that WE THINK that they WOULD THINK if we truly knew what they were thinking. Make sense? No? It does to ME.

When Angie writes anything about cats, she depicts cats as I have always imagined they would be, if they were to communicate in words like humans, instead of meows. Angie portrays  cats as being intelligent, well-spoken, sarcastic and insanely funny.  The cats that Angie writes about don't have filters. They are the way I imagine cats to be..."take me as I am. or don't waste my time!"

I have been following Angie's blog since I first began blogging in 2009.  I have also had the pleasure of getting to know Angie as a person since then, both online and through  re-connecting in person at various social media/blogging events. Angie's writing is like Angie, real, "out there", eclectic, witty, zany, fun and oh-so-honest!!

Angie's humor is edgy, quirky, hip, intelligent and often so funny that it makes me break into full blown laugh-out-loud-maniacal giggling mode.

She has had that effect on me on her blog, on Facebook,  and now through BOTH of her books.

FROM THE PUBLISHER:

Texts from Mittens is a series of text message conversations between a snappy, self-absorbed housecat named Mittens and his long-suffering human, a single woman who works away from home during the day. Mittens relentlessly hassles his human all day long, while only taking breaks to watch Judge Judy, hang with his best friend Stumpy, complain about the antics of Drunk Patty the neighbor, ask Grandma for money to buy useless items from QVC, and harass the "filthy beast" dog, Phil.

The book, Texts from Mittens was the next logical step after the overwhelming success of  Angie's column of the same name, that appeared on the super popular website, Catster.com.

One way to know that you have an enormous hit on your paws hands, is when you see copycat versions of the same concept springing up all over the web. When I saw others trying to re-create what Angie had thought of, I KNEW this was going to be BIG, and I was right.

While others may try and replicate the concept on their own blogs and social media platforms, there is much more involved than just using the same concept. There is brilliant execution of the concept, and, well...being  genuinely funny. Which Angie IS. NATURALLY.

Not a detail was missed when re-creating the screen for text messaging. I cracked up laughing when my eyes caught the upper left hand corner (see above) where it says FURIZON.  Sound vaguely reminiscent of a well-known brand? Of course it is!   If cats could text and had the privilege of having  an unlimited data plan, FURIZON would be their purrferred provider!

In "real-life", Angie is an original, not a copy. Angie's body of work is an extension of HER and her natural quirky humor, as well as her inherent understanding of  and passion for cats.

In a nutshell, Texts From Mittens is approximately 100'ish  "laugh out loud" pages printed on quality "alk" paper, that is about a self-absorbed cat named Mittens. Mittens bombards "Mom" with incessant texts which take the form of demands, requests and questions at any hour, day or night, (hence the "unlimited data plan"). "Mom" mostly responds as the "straight man" to Mittens constant texting.

Simple concept + brilliant execution = a hit,
Angie Bailey hit this one right outta the ballpark!
