Grateful Cat "Not On Your Own" Music Video

I received an email from Gwendolin & Franky who happen to reside in Germany asking if I would share their video: "Not On Your Own" by Grateful Cat. I decided to share it because the video has a lovely message, that even when you feel as if you are alone, you really are not. Enjoy!

Cat Lovers! "Curl Up With A Cat Tale Series", Short Stories by Gwen Cooper (NY Times bestselling author of Homer's Odyssey)

It is with great pleasure that today I am honored to present to you a first-of-its-kind venture in traditional book publishing, Curl Up With a Cat Tale Series. This series is a monthly electronic short-story series, that are true-life cat tales written by Gwen Cooper (NY Times Bestselling author of "Homer's Odyssey"), about her world-famous fur family.

I have had the honor of reviewing Gwen's books, (in fact, my review of Homer's Odyssey was the FIRST book review I had ever done on this blog. All the way back in August of 2010.) I remember being terrified when Gwen contacted me asking if I would be interested in reviewing her book, but I did, I, like millions of others fell in love with Gwen and her writing,  and countless more reviews followed.

When Gwen contacted me approximately a week ago asking if I would help with getting the word out about her NEW Curl Up With A Cat Tale Series, I had to break one of my own rules! (I previously would never, ever review an ebook or anything that I had to read online)....until now.......well, rules "ARE meant to be BROKEN", right? And....when Gwen Cooper asks, (because I am STILL a major "fan girl" of hers), I will pretty much do ANYTHING that she asks. (Well, ALMOST anything!). I am glad that I broke my own rule. The story I read is the featured short story for the month of April:

I Choo-Choo-Choose You! is a short story written by Gwen, that shares the touching and humorous story of how Gwen's cat, Scarlett came into her life.

I didn't realize how much I had missed reading Gwen's writing until I was immersed in this precious story.

Gwen's writing style makes you feel as if you are listening to a friend share a story. Always touching, always striking a chord that cat lovers can relate to.

"Before there was Homer the Blind Wonder Cat, there was Scarlett—the adorable, maddeningly aloof, gray rescue tabby…

Every cat lover remembers the very first feline they fell in love with. For celebrated cat writer Gwen Cooper, that first love is Scarlett—a pint-sized rescue kitten with a king-sized personality. A natural-born troublemaker, and wary at first after life on the streets, Scarlett is quick to win hearts with her kittenish mischief, but slow to open her own heart to the woman who saved her. Yet as the months go by, and bonds of trust are painstakingly forged link by link, Gwen begins to realize that the love you have to earn just may be the love that means the most."

The Curl Up With A Cat Tale Series, is one new short story (8,000 to 12,000 words/ 25 to 40 pages) each month.

You may purchase each story individually for $3.99 on Kindle, Nook, iBooks, Kobo, and wherever ebooks are sold OR subscribe for an entire year for a 1-time payment of $14.99 (62% off list price!)

Subscriptions available at

Subscribers will automatically receive their new story the first week of each month; stories delivered in PDF, ePub, and Mobi formats--may be read on any desktop or laptop computer, ereader, mobile phone, tablet, and/or printed out on paper for a hard copy.

Each story filled with all the humor and heart Gwen's readers have come to know, love, and crave more of!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!
THE NEXT CAT STORY
IN THE SERIES IS AVAILABLE MAY 1, 2018
It features:

"Clayton “the Tripod”  who is a special-needs

rescue who quickly established himself
 as king of the house—
a “loveable doofus” and
natural clown with a heart big enough
 for ten cats."

Full Disclosure: I was not compensated for posting this review. As I mentioned I have reviewed all of Gwen's books, I ADORE Gwen and her writing. We are both professional members of the Cat Writer's Association (although SHE is an enormously successful member, and I am a peon who writes pretty darned good book reviews...but I digress).

Coloring Book Featuring Cats:Cooking With Cats (A Curious Combo of Cats, Cupcakes & Colors) by Jess Erskine and a Give-Away!

From the moment I first read about Cooking With Cats (A Curious Combo of Cats, Cupcakes & Colors), by the talented Jess Erskine, on the fabulous  Pet Lady Blog, I was intrigued.  I LOVE to cook, I LOVE cats and I LOVE to color, so it was a no-brainer. I HAD to have this book!

Cooking With Cats – is a quirky mashup of cats, cookery and cuisine, and contender for the Most-Ridiculously-Wonderful-Coloring-Book-About-Cats-of-All-Time.
Cooking With Cats contains 25 scenes of cats cavorting in the kitchen and pretending to be a variety of gourmet foods. Coloring fans have the opportunity to color sushi cats, cupcake cats, hotdog cats, ice cream cats, and coffee cats in all their furry glory.
I KNEW I HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK!!!

So, I reached out on Facebook practically begging for a chance to review/color this darling book and Jess's Dad, Jim, was happy to oblige!

First, when I opened the book and saw the sketch of Cody that Jess had surprised me with, I nearly DIED!!! Oh how she captured Cody's "cranky" expression!!!

I LOVE how Jess wrote the caption of "Color me unimpressed..." that is ohhh sooo Cody!!!! I wonder if she knows just how FOOD OBSESSED Cody is? (Well, for that matter, I am too, but I digress...).......

The drawings in this book are precious and in my opinion, to not lose the quality of the actual drawing, I would strongly suggest using COLORED PENCILS for this book. (Yes, I know I am not normally a fan of coloring with colored pencils AT ALL, but with this book I wish I had them to enable me to do the sort of shading that I would like to do, while maintaining the integrity and beauty of Jess's original sketches.) The sketches of the cats in particular have lovely detail that I think colored markers (which I used on my page that I colored), ruins that. I am going to go out and get some colored pencils soon, before I color pages in the rest of the book. I want my coloring to not take away from Jess's talent. Below you will see the page that I colored with markers:

I think my coloring above, would look MUCH better had it been done with colored pencils. Also, there are scrumptious looking donuts, tacos, spaghetti, ice cream and so much more to color, and...you know ME, I AM SERIOUS ABOUT MY FOOD and I must make the food look as delectable as Jess's drawings, and I think using colored pencils will enable me to do that. The kitties that Jess has drawn  in this book are so beautifully sketched, that many of them look not only ready to be colored by YOU, but they look like you just might want to CUDDLE them as well!

Here is a sample page, (all of the sample pages may be downloaded and printed so that YOU can have fun coloring them too!)  so you can see what I mean:

MEET JESS ERSKINE

How did you come up with the idea for COOKING WITH CATS?
My dad thought of it first, so I stole it from him and ran with it… mashing cats together with every kind of food I love, like cupcakes and coffee and sushi and cinnamon buns. It’s hard to look at this coloring book without your mouth watering.

Do you have any cats of your own?
I do. Morty is my favorite cat of all time, and he knows it. But he’s also a butt. He’s packed full of attitude and spice, and was the model for some of the pages in COOKING WITH CATS. His favorite activities are attacking legs, chasing bugs, hide and seek, naps, and watching “The Office” with me. But he’s still a butt.

you can download the page to color
and on the right,

Are any of your drawings mean to cats?
Well, a little DEmeaning maybe… but no, they are not mean or cruel. And if they were, I wouldn’t admit it anyway. For instance, there is Sushi Cat, who is wrapped up in some sushi. But did I cut him up? No. As you can see in his picture, he’s just an excellent food cosplayer.

Do you really eat food with cat hair in it?
Not knowingly. However, I recently had a tonsillectomy and I still can’t taste anything. So I wouldn’t know if I did. But I’d say I probably have recently.
Where can people find your book?
They can find it at RollingDonutPress.com or on Amazon. There’s also lots of pictures from the book to check out on our Facebook page, facebook.com/cookingwithcats
How pretty is Jess? She is GORGEOUS!!

Jess is a self-taught illustrator and the founder of Rolling Donut Press, and is the author and illustrator of Finish the Drawing; Coupons for Couples; 50 Simple Reasons

Jess developed her love for illustration thru an early obsession over Hal Foster’s “Prince Valiant” comic series. Most of her childhood was spent listening to vintage radio programs, annoying her brothers, and poring over Foster’s beautifully detailed illustrations.
Before pursuing illustration full time, Jess worked as a restaurant manager, goldsmith, videographer, and did contract work for several local theaters.
When she isn’t nose-deep in illustration, these days Jess can be found playing with her hellion cat Morty, collaborating with her dad Jim Erskine, striving for the highest Tetris score and searching for the world’s best donuts.

Book Review:"The Complete Cat's Meow", ("everything you need to know about caring for your cat") By Darlene Arden

I thought I  pretty much knew everything there was to know about cats. After all, I was owned by my Angel Bobo for 18 years and now Cody for 4. That's 22 years of being owned by a cat. When I see some books that are reference books or guide books for cat owners I smugly think, "I don't need this". I bet there are many long time cat lovers/owners out there who feel the same.

Guess what? YOU NEED THIS BOOK.

Did you hear me? No? Let me say it again...YOU NEED THIS BOOK.

"The Complete Cat's Meow" by Darlene Arden is just that. COMPLETE. I have found nothing in my cat reading travels thus far that compares. You ask, "Is it THAT good?"

 YES....it...IS...THAT....GOOD

"Good?" Make that...SUPERB.

Whether you are just a fan of cats or are  contemplating bringing a cat into your home for the first or 50th time, this book should be your bible.  It is now mine. I am giving it a place of honor  on my desk in my office, where it will function as my handy "go to guide" for anything and everything pertaining to cats.

Never being one to write the title of every chapter of a book that I review (you can go to Amazon for that, as well as to purchase this book, that you MUST purchase), what I WILL do is let you know a little bit of what I learned after having read this highly informative (in a totally non-boring way), 222 page, gem.

About handling and socializing a cat: "male kittens, especially, don't like to have their tummies touched, so they have to be acclimated early on."

About kitty proofing your home: "once a cat begins to swallow something, she can't stop. This is because kitty's tongue, which is so good at giving you sandpaper kisses, has tiny hooks called papillae that help her clean her fur, hunt and eat. However, the catch is that those little papillae all point toward the back of her throat making it  just about impossible for kitty to spit out things like string and yarn."

About cat poisons: "bowls of potpourri are toxic for cats"

About kitty litter: "before the invention of litter, people who kept their cats mainly indoors put ashes into a box for their cat. When cat litter was invented by Ed Lowe in 1947, the whole idea of cat ownership changed."

About cat trees: "if you have a multicat household, the one who always goes to the highest level is the one who probably has higher status in the family."

About food and water dishes: "cat dishes need to be wide and shallow. A cat's whiskers are very sensitive and cannot be crammed into a deep bowl. It's more natural and comfortable for a cat to eat and drink from flat, wide dishes. Keep the word DISH in mind, not BOWL when shopping for kitty."

About creating a first aid kit: "you will need sterile gauze, tweezers, scissors, petroleum jelly, hydrogen peroxide...." (and many other items that you will have to read about when you purchase this book).

The above is just a sampling of a myriad of information that "The Complete Cat's Meow" contains. Once again, to see the complete table of contents and to purchase this must-have for any cat lover, soon-to-be-cat-owner or lifelong cat owner, visit Amazon

It was my pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to read and review this informational buffet. "The Complete Cat's Meow, everything you need to know about caring for your cat" by Darlene Arden, couldn't be more aptly named. It takes you through the entire journey of cat ownership.  There are adorable photos about halfway through the book and....are you one of the people who don't usually read the appendix in the back? Ohhh you will want to read Appendix A and B in this one! That was an extra bonus! (As if this book needed MORE bonuses!)
