Valentine's Day 2025 (Love is In the Air!!)

Valentine's Day is definitely in the air around our house!! A few weeks ago Levi bought a Valentine's cookie for his girlfriend at Canine College, Sadie!! Then, Sadie bought one for him!! Levi and Sadie have been an "item" for some time now. Levi is definitely smitten!!

Sadie is the large Shepherd mix with the curled tail. The photos aren't good because I took them from the camera while I was watching him at Canine College !

Then, poor Roary is still looking for a girlfriend! Anyone interested?

Who could resist that face?????

Last but definitely not least, I want to wish my husband Lenny a most wonderful Valentine's Day!!! I love you, hang in there, this is one bumpy (or should I say "lumpy" ride???? Bad joke I know!) Love you always!!!!

And...to ALL OF YOU we wish you a Happy Valentine's Day!!!

xoxo

It's a Love Connection on Valentine's Day!

Hi every furry!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

It's Cody and I am extra light on my paws today!! Yesterday I found out the most PAWESOME NEWS!!! WAIT TIL YOU HEAR!

First, allow me to set the scene. A little over a year ago I wrote a blog that stated that I was tired of being alone. That is no way for a handsome mancat like myself to exist. So, I put out a request for a ladycat to while away the hours with me, or even one for a quick prance around town.

The responses were OVERWHELMING!!!!! I was approached by a chickin' lovin' ORANGE MANCAT,  (sorry pal, you aren't my type), I even had a response from a WOOFIE!!! (That woofie needs counseling, and FAST, but I digress...)

What was a mancat to do?
Well, not wanting to hurt any kitty's feelings, I picked ALL of the special ladycats who were kind enough to respond. (Sadly, the beautiful Harley unexpectedly went to the Rainbow Bridge last year, and it broke my heart).

There were a couple of  kitties however, that stood out from the rest. One, was the adorable Lucy pictured above. The problem was, she was (and is), still considered to be in kittenhood and her overprotective Jewish father was afraid that I would corrupt her. Moi? NEVER!!

Then, late in 2014 Truffles , (also in the photo above),  and I started purring to each other, around the time that she was my Secret Paws pal. But Truffles lives soo far away!!

There was one response however that I just couldn't shake off of my tail. It was from the exquisite (and oh-so mischievous) Crepes from Cat In The Fridge (even her blog name piqued my interest! Any cat who ties in a "Fridge" and "Food" already earns bonus points with me!). Here is the comment that she left.

I've been waiting for this moment...- Crepes.

The game of cat and mouse began!!
Throughout the year, when I would least expect it, she would leave me the most "lascivious messages" (by her own admission!) on my blog.  We all know that sometimes certain mancats aren't that quick on the uptake and I would just let them slide. Until...I saw this week that Crepes was seeking a date for Valentine's Day!!
Photo Courtesy of Cat In The Fridge
Being the master of translating the meaning of non-verbal cat poses that I am, I knew that I had to take a chance and pounce on this incredible oppurrtunity!. So, I put together some photos (well, Mom helped me with them but I did all of the writing), and set out to impress that saucy little wench!!

Then, I received the surprise of my LIFE!!!! Crepes chose ME to be her MAIN DATE!!! Why am I saying "main date?" Well, it appears that she has two other mancats who are hot on her tail, (Boomer and Tuna from Da Tabbies O Trout Towne.   But I guess they chose to be mystery dates cause they never sent in photos!! MOL!!!)  Being the polite ladycat that Crepes is, she is going to be entertaining THEM during the day, but is SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST!!! WHO?? ME!!

That's fine, let her have her fun, I have her in the night, (and we all know the "night time is the RIGHT TIME!!"),  where we can do some hot prowling around, and you know what they say about the number THREE?  "The THIRD one is the CHARM!!"

This is my HAPPIEST Valentine's Day EVER!!!

Love, Cody

"Will You Accept This Rose?"

Hi my furiends! I was doing some thinking and I realized that for approximately four years I have been watching various kitties go on dates, dances, become engaged and even MARRIED, and here am I:

ALL BY MYSELF

That's no way for a kitty to be! Now don't get me wrong, I have a great home, but a guy needs the companionship of a FEMALE kitty sometimes, ya get my drift?

ABOUT ME:
AGE: nearly 7
RACE: well I chase mice around quite a bit if THAT'S what you mean! Oh wait! That's NOT what you meant!  I am a Silver gray tabby but I don't care about your color or the length of your fur, I love ALL female kitties!
HOBBIES: sleeping, eating, sleeping, eating, chasing mice, sleeping, eating, harassing my woofie brother, sleeping, eating, YOU get the idea!
I have MULTIPLE BEDS (now get your mind out of the alley! I mean for cat-napping, I have no clue what YOU were thinking!) tons of tasty food and  many toys to offer you!!
Plus I LOVE TO CUDDLE!!!! (no STRINGS attached!! MOL!!!)

This is where YOU come in! I would LOVE to have a kitty girlfriend, or even paw around town with a few!
If you are interested in being my date, (or maybe my girlfriend!) give me a MEOW-OUT!!!

PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PHOTO, NAME AND BLOG LINK! (Oh you don't need to have a blog to enter but if you do, please send it!), and if you want to tell me a little about yourself that would be great too!! YOU CAN EITHER EMAIL IT TO ME AT catchat at mi dot rr dot com OR you can POST IT DIRECTLY ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE BY CLICKING HERE!! (There might even be a prize involved, we will see!)

PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PHOTOS BY WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH for a VALENTINE'S DAY SURPRISE!!!!

I can't wait to hear from you!!

Love,

Cody

Book:"Dangled Carat" by Hilary Grossman

I married a commitment-phobic man, so when I heard the premise of Author Hilary Grossman's book, Dangled Carat, I knew that this was a book that I HAD to read.

Many of you know Hilary as the author of the popular blog Feeling Beachie, where her keen sense of observation, as it relates to people and their idiosyncrasies,  is conveyed (often with sarcasm and humor), on a daily basis. For the cat lovers that read both of our blogs, you probably came to know Hilary when she would write about her beloved cat, Alex, (who I was pleased to see was mentioned  a number of times in the book),  and now her current kitty,  precious Lucy. Today I am pleased to introduce you to  Hilary Grossman, AUTHOR (and a brilliant one at that!),  of Dangled Carat, the first of what I am certain will be a succession of successful novels!

From Dangled Carat:Hilary had gotten used to dating the commitment-phobic Marc, thirteen years her senior. They had a great relationship—why rush into things? She saw no need to pressure him for marriage, believing that when the time was right, he would propose. But after they had been together for four years, their friends decided to take matters into their own hands, pushing Marc to propose and making Hilary realize how much she really did want to marry the man that she loved. Unfortunately, Marc still wasn’t ready—and their friends’ meddling in the form of a faux engagement party led to a disastrous New Year’s Eve that brought their relationship to an inevitable turning point. In this relatable, lighthearted, and playful memoir, Hilary reminisces about her life before Marc—from the insecure and awkward teenage years she spent in a back brace and dealing with the loss of her father, to her early relationships and, finally, to the day she met Marc and realized that she really wanted to see him again...  Hilary shares the details of their relationship and how Marc’s inability to commit led her to find an inner strength and confidence she didn’t know she possessed.

How I wish I had this book when I met my now husband! Hilary was spot on in her often hilarious, and sometimes heartbreaking, depiction of how a woman feels when dating (and WAITING!) for a commitment-phobic man to "see the light." For women who have dated and lost a commitment-phobic man, to those like myself who married one, you will commiserate with the pain, joy, frustration and wisdom that Hilary displayed throughout her relationship with Marc.

One of many things that I found to be fabulous about Dangled Carat, was even knowing Hilary, as I do through blogging,  and KNOWING the final outcome, I found myself gasping at parts, saying "Ohhhh noooo" and cheering her on,  (and yelling at Marc!), through every page. I found myself  FORGETTING that I know her!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the title again. It didn't click with me until I read the book, the title Dangled Carat is brilliant!

How many of you are familiar with the Carrot and Stick Approach?  The Carrot and Stick Approach : "is an idiom that refers to a policy of offering a combination of rewards and punishment to induce behavior. It is named in reference to a cart driver dangling a carrot in front of a mule and holding a stick behind it. The mule would move towards the carrot because it wants the reward of food, while also moving away from the stick behind it, since it does not want the punishment of pain, thus drawing the cart."

I am by no means comparing Hilary to a MULE, but the clear message is that through Marc's obvious signals, gestures and  behavior, he DID love Hilary, but enough to marry her?

Marc showed Hilary enough love and affection to make her remain in a relationship with him, but the obvious reward, marriage, remained out of reach, just like the elusive carrot of the mule. Hilary was in the "driver's seat" in the relationship, but often didn't realize that. Controlling a successful career was easy for her. Hilary endured  heartbreaking traumas in her life that would have broken one with less internal strength, but she emerged victorious. Those battles in hindsight were EASY compared to what she was experiencing with Marc. While  she wanted to remain in the relationship, and in her heart KNEW she would be married to Marc, she also considered moving away from it, wanting to escape the pain that she often felt would happen if she stayed, much like the mule pulling the cart.

In the Jewish religion there is a word and the word is Beshert which means  "inevitable" or "preordained." It can apply to any happening which appears to bear the fingerprints of divine providence"

From Hilary and Marc's first meeting it was evident that this relationship was Beshert, it just took patience, intellect, emotional fortitude, listening to one's gut and the intervention of a VILLAGE! (Marc's friends/family) to have this 40-something commitment-phobe see the light!

  Dangled Carat   is a GEM!!!

In Full Disclosure: I received no compensation for this review, over a year ago I was speaking with Hilary on the phone and learned of her plans to write "A" book, (not knowing it would be this one!) I told her that when she did, I wanted to be SURE to be included as one of the reviewers. That is why I broke away from A HUGE RULE when reviewing Dangled Carat:: I only review books featuring cats, (well Alex IS in the book a teeny-tiny bit!)

"Lookin' for love in all the wrong places" Thankful Thursday

Hi every furry! It's Cody takin' over the blog today.

Some of you may not be aware that I am really a cuddly guy who just LOVES LOVE! I'm a veritable lover from way back! I like being cuddled, I don't cringe at being touched, wanna rub my belleh for good luck? Go for it! I languish under the spell of my Furminator gliding across my silvery gray fur, heck, I've even been known to hold hands paws with Mom when we watch TV!

I'm also the kind of guy that when the call for love goes out, I answer! Doesn't matter if you are a girl or a boy, hey, I'm neutered remember?  I don't just swing both ways, I swing every which way!  I don't judge ya if you have fur, scales, flesh or feathers, if it's love you're lookin' for, I'm your guy!

That's why when I saw this video that my Chihuahua buddy, Bullet, posted on his Mom's blog, I just had to answer. Doesn't Bullet have just the CUTEST doggy face...EVER??

No one should be without love on ANY day, but Valentine's Day? It's Casanova Cody to the rescue!

I left a comment on Bullet's Mom's blog saying that I would be his Valentine, and guess what? I won! I not only won some great prizes but I won Bullet's heart. Ok his Mom really has his heart, but I am in second place!

I was sooo excited when I got a beautifully wrapped package in the mail from none other than Bullet!  I was in complete shock that a woofie would know just what I love!

Bullet, THANK YOU for these most thoughtful and FUN prizes! I am having the BEST time with them! I am your special furiend today and always!

It just goes to show ya, it doesn't matter WHAT or WHO someone is, they should be loved and appreciated and not ever made to feel alone on Valentine's Day or ANY day! Now go out there and start "lookin' for love in all the wrong places"...you just might have something WONDERFUL turn up like I did!

Hey Bullet! Thank you!!

Love you buddy!!!

Tell your Mom I love her too!

Casanova Cody

A Special Holiday Message from ChazzTheDog

From Cat Chat: I read this post from my buddy Chazz  on his blog  ADOPTED MOM TO CHAZZ and it resonated with me. It made such an impression that I asked Chazz's Mom if I may re-post this. She graciously gave me her permission.  This holiday season let's celebrate and welcome our differences. Let's learn from each others' traditions. Let's expand our frame of reference to include everyone. It should be a joyous time of year for us all.   I am proud to welcome ChazzTheDog to our blog today as our guest blogger. Enjoy his post! The photo of the cats below...is from US (we had found it a few years ago on the web...can't remember where!)

HOLIDAY GREETINGS

 from ChazzTheDog

Pawwaves to all my pals. I wanted to take this time,
as the days get busier and go quickly, to wish you all:

Happy Holidays!

It is important at this time of the year to enjoy your family and furriends; to gather for food, music, and celebration – whatever your traditions. To remember with fond memories those who have left us in body; but always remain in our hearts in spirit. We never lose the love we have for them – never.

And let us remember that while we all belong to different families, we are all part of a bigger family. We  all share the important things. To have a furever home, to be loved and give love.

Let me tell you a short story: About two years ago when i first came to make this blog; I was asked to join a Dog & Kitteh Christmas Choir. I was very pawcited to be asked to join the group.  But I thought I had better tell them that i don’t celebrate Christmas, because I’m Jewish. Now that didn’t mean I didn’t know all the words to the Christmas Carols, because I do…and I wanted to be in da singing group.  They said that was okay, I could be in da group even though I celebrate Chanukah. We should respect everybody’s personal traditions cause that’s what they believe.

Just because people (or dogs) were raised in different cultures doesn’t mean we can’t respect them when they are different then us…

So that’s my  message as we enter this Holiday Season. Shopping, cooking, baking,  wrapping presents, will keep us all very busy in these days leading up to the end of the year and through New Year’s 2013.  But it is also important to remember these things. Peace, Love, and Harmony. It’s mostly all we have to give to one another.

Happy Holidays,
ChazzTheDog
