The Michigan Humane Society’s limited-time “Name Your Own Price” cat adoption promotion, which has already found loving homes for dozens of cats and kittens, has been extended through Saturday, July 27. Act now for the chance to choose from many fantastic felines awaiting forever homes and name your price, at all MHS locations. Any chosen adoption fee will be honored. The regular MHS adoption process will apply.

“We have seen such a great response to this promotion that we decided to extend it until Saturday,” said CJ Bentley, MHS senior director of operations. “We have so many wonderful cats and kittens who deserve loving homes and the more quickly we find them homes, the sooner we can help more cats in need.”

  15. Great initiative on their part. We have a 2 for the price of 1 adoption event going on here in Ottawa (Canada). Always makes me wish I had more space and unlimited funds to take more in. Such precious little faces.

    1. That is an excellent question my friend. Detroit is STILL suffering from the blow to the economy that other cities seem to have recovered from. I lost my job due to downsizing in 2007 and being over 50 with advertising experience, isn't what most companies want.
I imagine it could make things worse than they already are. We are rather worried about my husband's pension being affected. (He taught in Detroit for 36 years). At this point we think it is just the people who were DIRECT employees of the City of Detroit but aren't 100% sure about that. Thanks for asking! xoxoxo

  19. Love MHS and love that you love them too! We love supporting them because Michigan is "home" for me...I was sad by Detroit finally filing but I am uplifted by the work that MHS is doing to help animals in spite of it all...and how they are trying to help people keep their animals in homes with their families with the cat food bank, etc. I am hoping to visit them this fall and I have lots of hope for Detroit! I saw your above response - I pray your husband's pension isn't affected. People who worked so hard to serve and help for so many years should not pay the price for what happened in Detroit. xoxo

    1. Amelia thank you for this heartfelt comment. THANK YOU! If you come this fall be SURE to get a hold of me!! Maybe we could go MH together? That would be great!!!! I am tired of the bad rap that many of the large shelters get. People are under the mistaken assumption that "no kill" shelters are Saints. When MANY "no kill" shelters are full to the rafters, where do people think they send the animals that they can't house. You got it, to the larger rescues. xoxoxo

  20. I have mixed feelings about this. If you can't afford the adoption fee, how can you afford to take good care of your new kitty?

    1. since they say above that their "normal screening process applies" I wouldn't be too worried. If someone wants to take $10 off of the fee I see nothing wrong with that. Maybe it would allow them to adopt more than one cat?
Also, my contact at Michigan Humane told me that often people choose to pay WAY MORE than the normal adoption fee which makes this even better.
