Sponsored: The one about saying "THANKS" and "GIVING" #NutrishPets

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

Hi my furiends both furry and non. It's Cody, and today I am taking over the blog from Mom because I have some things that I need to meow about. I am feeling rather philosophical, so I hope you will indulge me! I am nine years old now. I have spent nine years observing, as well as thinking.

This week the U.S. will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  If you look at the word closely, it isn't just a proper noun, the action of giving thanks is a verb. .  The word Thanksgiving is made up of "Thanks" and Giving."

From what I have observed, it seems that many humans spend more time preparing for THE DAY AFTER Thanksgiving (Black Friday, which my Mom and I happen to hate, we think it should be called "Greed Friday", but I digress....), than preparing for and celebrating what Thanksgiving is SUPPOSED to be about. A day of giving thanks for all that we have, and if you want to break it down further, for GIVING to others.

It makes me sad when I see humans not acknowledging that. To many humans, it seems that Thanksgiving is nothing more than a bump in the road to get over in order to celebrate the "real" holidays...Christmas..........and this year because it happens to fall at the same time as  Christmas, Chanukah. (Chanukah often falls right after Thanksgiving and a few times it has fallen right ON Thanksgiving).

Each year it seems that Thanksgiving gets pushed further into the background. This year I am putting my paw down and saying "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!"  Hang tight for just a few more days humans!!!  You will be "fa-la-la-la-la'ing" and "Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel'ing" before you know it!!! But for now....

GIVE THANKS!!!

Grab a pen and paper and make a list of what you are giving thanks for. If you want, I will go first! I am thankful for:

T
toys. I am blessed to have toys to play with!

H
Home. I am blessed to have a wonderful home. Not all kitties are that lucky.

A
animal friends all over the world because of my blog. I am lucky to be friends with other cats, and all sorts of animals. I am thankful for each and every one.

N
Nutrish. For the past couple of years I have been enjoying being an Ambassacat for Nutrish for Cats. I also enjoy EATING my Nutrish!

K
Kneading comfortable sleeping spots. Gotta get your bed all comfy cozy right?

S
SUPPER!! Ok, so I call it "dinner" really, but I needed an "S"!! Every night for "Supper" I get MORE Nutrish, I get it for SNACKS too! Hey! That's another "S!"

WHAT ABOUT "GIVING?"

AFTER ALL, IT IS THE GIVING SEASON!!

Mom and I try to donate toys, food, supplies,  and money  to different shelters,  organizations, causes,  etc. It has been harder for us  to do so this year, but we try to give whenever we can.

Mom and I also love  companies who GIVE BACK.Nutrish is one of those companies.  One of MANY reasons why Mom and I love Nutrish is because  of Rachael's Rescue.

A portion of Nutrish proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue®, which was created to help animals in need. To date, over $14MM has been donated. This money has gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for these unfortunate animals.

So, in this season of giving, while your humans are out picking up more goodies to eat for Thanksgiving, tell them to pick up some Nutrish too!! It's a win-win!!  Delicious Nutrish for YOU and they will be giving back to animals who are in need. Right? OF COURSE I AM RIGHT!! I TOLD you I am a smart kitty!!!!

All of the Rachael Ray Nutrish products are available where you shop for your family’s groceries, making specialty recipes accessible and convenient for every pet parent.

  1. Spot on Cody!
We also know petcretary hates this thing called stampede Friday...she had not even heard of this until her first Thanksgiving in the USA.
    We love your thanks notes.
A couple weeks ago petcretary left food and toys and some other things at Froggie's Pond, the rescue/shelter run by our vet. If she had time she would volunteer there.

She got a free turkey at her work; (Each year they give them out to their workers), and she did not need it, so she gave that one to the family next door.

We go to church each Thanksgiving, then we have our 'feast'. Then we just stay home and enjoy ourselves as a family.
When petcretary's dad had his business, he never put up anything to do with Christmas until December first! What a holdout!! MOL!

We sure do have so much to be thankful for, and we have to stop and remember that we should not take any of this for granted. Ever!

    1. OMC don't get my Mom started about Black Friday!! She DETESTS it! Back in the day Mom was a Server at a restaurant in a Mall. Black Friday, as you know, was a NIGHTMARE. Do you know that Mom has NEVER, EVER "done" Black Friday and she refuses to. BTW, we hear this might be the last year of Black Friday, THANK COD.
Thank you for your kind words!
Your Mom is so sweet to leave food and toys, I am sure they appreciated it!
That is sooo sweet that your Mom gave the turkey away too! THAT'S what we're talkin' about!
You are sooo wise and we agree with EVERYTHING that you said! xoxoxo

  4. I agree 100% about giving thanks and the commercialization of gratitude. This year is really different with a new cat with many health issues but it made our annual A to Z of ThanksGiving more meaningful.

  6. What a great post, Cody! You are right--too many humans forget about the "thanks" and "giving" that come before Christmas. I wish people wouldn't call it "Turkey Day," because Thanksgiving is not about turkeys!

  9. I too dislike that term; Green Friday seems so much nicer! 2016 has been a tough year, and yet being thankful for one's blessings is a surefire way to bring out a smile on anyone's face!

  10. Great post, Cody. At least a lot of store won't be open on Thanksgiving day this year! We will check out the Nutrish, because you like it. It would be nice, for a change, to get cat food at the grocery store and not make a special trip to the pet store.
    Thankful for you, friends!

  15. Paws up for giving back! Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday because it's something we can all share no matter whether our homes celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or anything else. Thankfulness is -- and should be -- universal!

We're thankful for you and your human being such pawesome blog-pals. Especially Pierre, because he is thankful for his biggest fan. Many purrs to you for a beautiful Thanksgiving holiday.

  19. You are very wise, Cody. Thanksgiving is kind of pushed to the side, something to "get through" instead of a day where we really focus on all our blessings. I am not a fan of Black Saturday either. I just plain don't like shopping, so I'm sure not going out in that mess! LOL

    1. Thank you! My mom is with you, she doesn't like shopping either. She MUCH prefers to do her shopping online or at small specialty stores, or Mom and Pop stores....NO "big box" stores for her! Love, Cody
