"The World Is Your Litter Box" By Quasi ("With Minor Help From Steve Fisher"), A Review By ME...Cody!!

Throughout the week as I was circling my food bowl, or just passing through the kitchen looking for a comfy place to sleep, I would see my Mom laughing and laughing while reading and then she would even yell to my Dad that she HAD to read certain parts out loud to him! I wondered why the sudden bouts of hysteria in her usually boring demeanor and I had to see what all the fuss was about.

When Mom went to bed I looked at the cover of this book that seemed to be full of feel good dopamine. I heard bits and pieces as Mom read it to Dad and thought "that sounds like it is a book that is for CATS! Not humans, but CATS!" When Mom went to bed one night and the book was unattended, I scoped it out. Sure enough I was right!

"The World Is Your Litter Box" is a "how-to manual for CATS!!" YAY!! FINALLY! It is even written by a CAT! You know what they say, "if you want expert advice to go to the expert!" Well no one actually says that...but they should! It is a "how-to manual" to make our kitty lives more pleasant and enjoyable than they already are!!" Now what cat with his brain screwed in in the right place wouldn't like THAT!?

Ok kitlets, cool cats,  toms, glamour pusses....pull up your comfiest cat-hair covered pillow (you know you ALL have one) and "lend me your ears!!" Wait! this book isn't written by Shakespeare but by Quasi,  who is "a charming and intelligent 18-lb cat, white with baby blue eyes. Like all cats, Quasi possesses the wisdom of the ages and an overabundance of kitty cuteness." This is the very first book he has written! You goooo Quasi!

I guess we should acknowledge Steve Fisher as well (since he did help Quasi a little with this book). Steve Fisher (Quasi’s human and co-author) was a musician, a radio disc-jockey and a  record producer before finding his true path as a writer. When not writing, he spends his time catering to Quasi’s every want and whim.

Ok guys, I am not one to give away an entire book (if I did, then why would YOU ever want to read it?) but I DO want to share some of the highlights with you and trust me, (cross my paws, and hope to use one of my nine lives, well not use one of my nine lives but I am crossing my paws across my heart) there are gadzillions of highlights in this purrfectly catabulous book!

There is a chapter on "How To Look Cute" (well we are cute ALREADY but what cat couldn't try to be even CUTER to get what he/she wants?) I heard my Mom tell Dad that Grandpa Bobo used to do "The Sphinx" pose where you "lie flat on the ground with your front legs extended and your head held proudly, then look straight ahead in a somber, yet majestic manner. A classic!"

My personal favorite poses are the "Upside-Down Turtle" or the "Jack-O-Lantern Face"...I use those poses to get my way most effectively! You want to know what those poses are? GOTCHA! Ya gotta read the book to find out!

Another chapter that I loved and from the laughter I heard throughout the week and the yellow highlighting I saw in the book while I was reading it, (how DARE Mom deface MY cat manual for HER pleasure!) It obviously was one of her favorites too, is "How to Get Your Human to Sing and Act Like a Complete Idiot" (we all know that THAT isn't hard to do, but here is a tip from the book)

"ALL humans have this capacity. Do they sing? Do they talk baby talk? Do they imitate your meows? Do they pick you up and hug you and turn gooey and gushy?"..."All you have to do is meow a couple times and look cute. Yes, fellow cat, the mere sound of your voice and cuteness of your face is all it takes to push your human's craziness button and unleash a command performance. It's that simple."

Want to know a secret? It says in the book that to make it easier for all of us cats to find this book in the unlikely event it is hidden on a bookshelf at home....is that it is "ever-so-slightly scented with catnip"....

Ready for this? I walked by and saw my Mom sniffing and sniffing the book from every angle imaginable...you have to understand...my mom is "one sandwich short of a picnic"...she still believes in the "Tooth Fairy" for cat's sake.

Well my feline family, I have MY manual, I have my less than brilliant test subject....I'm all set!

Now zip, zoom, pussyfoot (or whatever form of skedaddling you are most talented at doing) and get outta here and get yours!

Coming Next Monday! "The World Is STILL Your Litter Box!!"

Oh and I wasn't compensated for this review (other than receiving a copy of the book) for my most honest and heartfelt opinion of it. I am a CAT, what OTHER kind of review am I going to give huh? 8. Oh Cody, thanks so much for telling us about this book. I'll definitely check it out when I'm at the bookstore.

The story sounds so funny and interesting and I couldn't stop laughing reading your comments about it. You're such a good storyteller but you also know how to stop it somewhere and make the story sounds even more interesting. It sounds like a must-read book now.

I love the description of the The Sphinx pose. This pose is really majestic, isn't it? I wonder whether it applies to dogs too!!!

  9. I loved this review, Cody! I can't get enough of books about cats because I live with 2 of them and I have to learn everything about them that I can! I loved your review of Careers For Cats and I ordered it via Amazon immediately so here's my next book order!

  11. TW is very interested in this book. I, OTOH, think I know all there is about how to manipulate my peeps and I definitely know how to go beyond cute and look STUNNING at all times. I do recommend supporting cat authors and Quasi's book seems like a winner.

  12. @Mario I can GUARANTEE you are gonna "laugh your faces off" while reading it! My Mom was laughing out loud (kind of annoying but it made ME want to read the book to see what the big deal was about) There was soooo much more in the book that I didn't tell you, as it is I wrote too much and this is a blog not another BOOK! MOL! Love, Cody

  14. Ohhh Auntie Priscilla YES the Sphinx pose is quite majestic!! I think even if you do not have a cat (which I know you don't) you will STILL laugh because the book is just sooo funny and PURRFECT! My Mom and I just loved it! I think your doggies may like it because they can learn how to deal with any kitties that they may encounter!

  15. @The Teacher's Pets thanks so much! Trust me, you are gonna LOVE this book! There is sooo much more in it that I didn't mention...gotta keep the suspense/interest level ya know? While you are ordering be sure to order the sequel "The World is STILL Your Litter Box" which I am gonna help my Mom read this week!
If you loved "Careers For Your Cat" (which we did too!) you will LOVE this! I am so glad you ordered that one as well! Love, Cody

  17. @Cathy Keisha, trust me oh beautiful one, this book IS a WINNER!!! We knew a lot about how to be cute and all too but Quasi covers EVERYTHING that cats do in a way that it seems like he was looking in our window! Even if you already know (which you just might) it is fun to read about how other kitties do the same thing and you just might learn a few other "tips" and "tricks" in order to have your Mom and Dad do your bidding EVEN MORE! Imagine that!
    Love, Cody

  18. Cody, I hate to admit it, but I've actually had this book in my TBR-pile for a whole month now... and I still haven't gotten around to it! (Uh-oh. Does that make me a bad mommy?)
After seeing your review, I have a sneaking suspicion that a certain someone is going to be taking advantage of my laziness... getting up in the middle of the night, pulling the book out of my pile, and reading it while I'm sleeping (to make sure he isn't missing out on anything!). Oh, well... guess I had my chance to learn all his secrets and blew it, huh? (Now, I only hope he doesn't hide the book from me when he's done with it... ;))

  19. @GlamKitty I believe it! My Mom has a pile of books too!! I know that with reading other people's blogs, doing our (er, MY blog lol), taking care of the home etc that sometimes there just isn't time. She should really leave ALL of the reading up to me but she doesn't.
I hope your "certain someone" does pull it out and read it...Hey! they may already have done it!

  20. I have asked Mom to add this to our "to-read" list on Goodreads.com!

  23. Hi Auntie Angie! Ohhhh yes it is a funny book and you will LOVE IT! I know you will!
Thank you about the review...my Mom and I were both thinking of becoming "professional reviewers" but we don't know how....we seem to only attract the free ones! (not that there's anything wrong with that) but there is cat food to be bought!!
Mom says thanks about the pic!! We know Halloween is over but we wanted to keep it there a little bit longer :) Love, Cody

  29. I'm going to order this book. Sounds like a fun read. Thanks for dropping by. Yes, Kane is a sheltie that we adopted 9 years ago from a shelter at the age of 1 year. He had been abused so we have had our hands full with him but we have learned a lot and he is a wonderful family dog. Love your blog.

  30. Hi Quasi!
Thanks so much for stopping by and and my Mom and I are so happy you liked what I wrote. We really loved the book! We are hoping that you sell a TON of books! Every cat needs their own manual!
    Your buddies, Cody and "Mom"

  31. Hi Deb!
Trust me you are going to love this book!
How wonderful that you were able to find a place to adopt a Sheltie. I am embarrassed to say we bought ours from a breeder because there were no Sheltie rescues nearby. (Our cat is from a rescue though!)
Oh the poor baby was abused? That just breaks my heart. Shelties are a sensitive and skittish breed to begin with but as you know they are the most loving dogs on earth! They certainly have their idiosyncracies (sp?) but their love is beyond compare. If you want to follow a FABULOUS blog about Shelties check out "The Life Of Eva The Sheltie" they are on my blog list that I follow. You will be captivated!
I am in love with your blog as well and thank you!!!

  32. Caren,
This post was absolutely brilliant; and of course, a book written, or at least, co written by a cat, what could be better? ;)

    Hilarious.

  37. Hi Rascal and thanks so much! Yep you should get YOUR paws on a copy too and I guarantee your Mom will get a huge laugh....but YOU need to take the advice seriously! :)
It is a book that no cat should be without!

  38. I see Quasi and his co-author live in Burbank. Sounds like your review will be selling quite a few copies for them and keep Quasi in kitty treats for some time. Wonder if Quasi is short for Quasimodo - the hunchcat of Burbank

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hi Nick, yep they live in Burbank...which I know nothing about other than it was the home of "Laugh-In" lol. I hope the review will sell a lot of books for them! I don't think Quasi is short for Quasimodo (but I don't know) I looked up the definition of Quasi and it is:Having a likeness to something; resembling:

  40. You're brilliant Cody! Perhaps you should stage a coup and take over the blog :P
