Thankful for the Here and Now

I decided to post our Thanksgiving post a day early, since tomorrow many of you will be busy with family, and I will be watching the loser Lions play, then I will be enjoying dinner with family following the game.  This year I am feeling grateful for the here and now. I want to keep this post from going down a dark road, so I will keep this short. Both Dakota and Cody are having some health issues that are in limbo right now, (which is why I am not around as much reading blog posts or posting on ours as I would like to be, along with the fact that many of your blogs stopped coming via email weeks ago, but that's an entirely different story). Dakota's blood pressure was up again (a few times after having been normal in August), and we will find out what our next steps will be, and we are waiting to find out some test results for Cody that we won't know for a few weeks. Cody has dropped from almost 11 lbs to 9.8 pounds since Spring (he was 10.4 lbs a month ago). I am hoping it is a thyroid issue because that is treatable.  He also has a slight heart murmur. Cody is eating like crazy (has been since Spring and I wondered then if he had a thyroid issue), and he is fine in every other way, so paws crossed with both boys their issues will be treatable. So, this year, with both of my boys having things going on I am grateful every moment for the time we have with them.

Sending lots of love!

Cat Reflects on "Thanks" and "Giving"

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

Hi my furiends! Today I pushed Mom away from the computer because I wanted to take the time to mew to you about a few things.

I may spend a large portion of my day sleeping, but during the time I am awake I am quite observant. Not much gets past me. As we are approaching the end of 2017 I have noticed that our world seems to be much colder, harder, and frightening than ever before. I watch my Mom when she turns on the TV every morning muttering (or crying) about yet another awful event that has taken place. Many of these events pertain to humans lashing out at each other, but often it is also humans lashing out at animals. This makes me sad. I don't want to become a fearful cat, I want to remain brave, strong and positive, so today I think it is important that I let you know about some things in my every day life that I am thankful for. Ready? Pull up your favorite pillow, grab a treat, and let's begin!

MOM AND DAD
Ok, I am going to make this part super quick because I don't want them to get a swelled head or anything, (but they ARE the ones who pawchase and distribute my daily sustenance so I must pay homage to them),I am EXTREMELY grateful for my Mom and my Dad. Mom was the one who first found me at an adoption event ten years ago at our local pet store. Mom called Dad and said "I found a special kitty that I want to adopt.", the rest is history. Dad, what can I say? My Dad is a champ. Every morning without fail I wake him up at 4am (give or take an hour either way) and suggest DEMAND that he feed me.

WINDOWS TO WATCH
THE WORLD GO BY
Ok all of you kitties with catios and NORMAL homes, you can stop laughing now! For some of us, this is as good as it gets. Yeah, I'm up high, not the best for squirrel watching but last I looked, BIRDS DO FLY!! Now I know the reason. the powers that be gave birdies wings so  that view deprived cats such as myself can still see them!  Sometimes in life you just gotta make the best out of what you have and be THANKFUL that you have it!
THE VET AKA "DR.SMILEY"
Furiends you can once again STOP LAUGHING! YES I AM enjoying how "Dr.Smiley" was petting me in that photo. He is kind and gentle and remember kitties and woofies, I said that sometimes you just have to be THANKFUL and look for the good in EVERY situation! "Dr.Smiley" takes good care of me and keeps me healthy. To me that's a pretty darned good reason to have a blissful look on my face!

MY WOOFIE BROTHER
Yep I love him. I truly do. Hey if it weren't for Dakota I would never have gotten involved in this Nutrish gig, capisce???? Ok, in all seriousness, my woofie brother and I enjoy each other, we play chase, we watch TV, we have some serious conversations that are top secret! And...once again, if it weren't for Dakota I wouldn't have:

MY TREAT BALL FULL OF
EVERY SINGLE NIGHT!

I hope you liked my list of all of the things I am thankful for. There are many, many more but I know that you have better things to do than to sit around reading my list all day. Kitties and woofies would you be so kind as to  stay with me a few more minutes? Now my furry furiends, we all know that not every kitty and woofie is as lucky as you and I are. We have loving furmilies that feed us delicious and good-for-us food  such as Nutrish Indoor Complete Chicken with Lentils and Salmon Recipe, but there are many kitties without loving homes who struggle to find food every day.  That is why  now I want to talk about:

GIVING

I am proud to join Dakota in representing  Rachael Ray Nutrish. Rachael Ray cares about all animals and has a special place in her heart for animals who aren't as luck as you and I. That is why she  created:

A portion of proceeds from each sale of Nutrish is donated to The Rachael Ray Foundation,
which helps animals in need through  Rachael’s Rescue® Through September 2017,
Rachael’s Rescue has donated more than $21 million dollars to pet charities and
other organizations that do good for animals. The funds are used for food,
medical supplies, treatments, and more for animals in need. Many more animals
around the country need help, and through Rachael’s Rescue, together we can make
a difference in the lives of many four-legged friends.

So kitties, before you and your family eat soooo much that you look like THIS:

Please meow to your humans and tell them that YOU want some Nutrish Super Premium Food for Cats, and if you are an Indoor Kitty like me you will want to ask for Nutrish Indoor Complete Chicken with Lentils and Salmon Recipe. I bet you can even find some SPECIAL OFFERS AND COUPONS  ONLINE TOO!!  Just think! You will be helping  kitties and woofies that are less fortunate and eating delicious food at the same time! That would be one of many things that you (and they) can do to give back during the holiday season and all throughout the year!!! Now kitties, I have to go get some sleep and eat some more Nutrish, but in the meantime to those who will be celebrating:

and to everyone else, we THANK YOU, LOVE YOU AND APPRECIATE YOU TOO!!!!! I'm gonna go and eat some more Nutrish and Mom is making some dishes to bring for Thanksgiving, and then she and Dad will be spending time with the furmily, so we won't be blogging for a few days!  Enjoy the rest of your week and we will see you MONDAY!!!

A Heartfelt THANK YOU- A little bit "Wordy" Wednesday

There are a lot of contests out there that many of us enter that offer prizes such as money, pet supplies and blog "notoriety", just to name a few. I recently entered a contest that for me, was probably the most emotionally rewarding of any contest that I have entered thus far.

My friend Ann Paws who is the author  of one of my favorite new blogs:

had a contest where we had to submit a photo of what our PETS are thankful for.

For me, this was a no-brainer. My "boyz" are MOST thankful for EACH OTHER. This photo was my entry:

Cody and Dakota have a most unique relationship. I couldn't be more blessed, nor could THEY!

They are playmates, partners in crime and conspiracy, companions when my husband and I aren't home,  they visibly worry when one of them is gone from our home even if it is just for an hour or two.  At night, by choice, they  sleep in close proximity of each other. My vet often tells me how he marvels at the intensity of their bond. Don't tell them that cats and dogs aren't supposed to get along. They exhibit care and concern for each other that many of us could learn from. All of this, and my method of "introducing" them  completely defied "conventional" blogging and textbook guidelines. I listened to my heart, which rarely steers me wrong.

There were 3 winners of this contest and my photo of Dakota and Cody was the GRAND PRIZE WINNER! I am honored and elated that my photo won the contest! What thrilled me the most was that the "judge" of this contest was Anns'  8 year old daughter, Lily:

What was special to me,  was this was TRULY a "fair and unbiased" judge who not only didn't know any of the entrants, she just loves animals! There was no "hidden agenda" here! You know what they say, "out of the mouths of babes." Lily said that my photo was  "adorable."

You can't fool a child. Children are often our harshest critics. They respond on an emotional level,  a child can sense dishonesty and those with less than stellar intentions a mile away. Ironically, our pets also have this ability. Want to know if a person is GENUINE? Introduce them to your children or your pets.

Being the winner of the "GRAND PRIZE" for this contest didn't bring money, or pet toys or supplies or even a shiny statuette. The prize is THIS lovely badge that I am displaying with enormous pride:

this is PRIZE ENOUGH for me! I don't have mad photography skills,  or the latest camera loaded with bells and whistles. What I DO have are a dog and a cat whose affection for each other lit up that photo and made my message clear.

My "prize" was my work touching the heart of a child. To me, that is the GREATEST gift of all, and in the spirit of Thanksgiving....I THANK YOU LILY from the bottom of my heart.
