#Ad: Let's Celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week #NutrishPets

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

Hi my furiends! It's Cody!  Did you know that this is a truly special week?  Well, it IS! November 6th through November 12 is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week! Now THAT is special!

While I was adopted at an adoption drive at a local pet store, I never lived in a shelter. I had a foster Mom who brought me to events hoping I would find my furever home. Mom and I know that MANY OF YOU who read this blog also foster kitties and woofies and YOU are truly special too!!

My family has close ties to Animal Shelters, and we  DEEPLY appreciate them! My human "bonus-sister" is the Manager at Almost Home Animal Rescue League & Haven,  and Mom featured her on  Dakota's blog last summer .

Animal Shelter workers often are volunteers, Whether paid or volunteers they work countless hours often 7 days a week, many times into the night and often ALL NIGHT!! They provide all sorts of care from giving love to kitties and woofies, providing food and water, playtime, socialization and all sorts of things!

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP
CELEBRATE ANIMAL SHELTERS?

SHARE ADOPTABLE PETS--Visit a Shelter's website and if they have a widget for a daily featured adoptable animal, you can install it on your blog if you are a blogger. (We have had one on our sidebar for years). If you are not a blogger, you can share an adoptable animal on your Facebook page.

GET TO KNOW YOUR LOCAL SHELTER--Visit their website,  "like" them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, stop in and visit in person.

PURCHASE ITEMS FROM YOUR LOCAL SHELTER--Many shelters have websites where you can purchase items such as  T-shirts, mugs, holiday cards, calendars, there are all sorts of things that you can order and the proceeds go towards helping animals. (In many instances the shelters also offer the items that are for sale online at their physical locations too). For the past few years my Mom has bought holiday cards from Michigan Humane (some of you may have received one in past years). It's a "win-win" for the animals, you and your card recipients.

VOLUNTEER--Many shelters would appreciate a volunteer coming to walk or play with dogs, clean cages for dogs and cats, help with feeding and so much more....SPEAKING OF FOOD....

YOU CAN DONATE MUCH NEEDED ITEMS
 SUCH AS FOOD!

Unopened, (be sure that the food hasn't expired),  cat/kitten food, wet or dry, in original packaging/container. (Be sure to call first, to find out what type of food is needed).
You might want to consider MY FAVE:

Real Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe: Real chicken or fish is always the number one ingredient in every bag of Rachael Ray™ Nutrish® for Cats. There's no ground corn, wheat or soy. And there's never any poultry by-product meals, artificial flavors or artificial preservatives. Just real meat or fish and wholesome veggies plus the vitamins, minerals and taurine your cat needs to be healthy and happy.

For the past few years I have been proud to represent (as well as EAT!) Nutrish for Cats.

Why? I am glad you asked that question, because:

A portion of Nutrish proceeds go to Rachael’s Rescue®, which was created to help animals in need. To date, over $14MM has been donated. This money has gone toward food, medical supplies and treatments for these unfortunate animals.

IT ALSO TASTES "CATABULOUS"!!!

All of the Rachael Ray Nutrish products are available where you shop for your family’s groceries, making specialty recipes accessible and convenient for every pet parent.

If you can't donate food

Shelters Can Also Use:

  • Cat Litter
  • Cat-nip toys (mice are great!)
  • Non-porous toys
  • Newspaper for lining cages, paper towels, cleaning supplies and MORE!!!
  • You can always give your local shelter a call to see what they need.

These are just a FEW of MANY things that you can do to help celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, and because I know that so many of YOU are involved with Animal Shelters on a regular basis, I would LOVE it if you would leave a comment below suggesting things that people can do that we may have left out! And...be sure to...............

  2. Paws up for our shelters and rescues! Two of the three of us are from rescue organizations, and we wouldn't be here without their help.

  3. Cody, our cat Paisley came from a pet store adoption event too, and Webster just showed up at our door one day...so neither of our cats has ever been in a shelter. Layla the dog has been though. It's so important to support shelters and the work they do! Purrs

  16. Great post. You know what animal shelters also need? Our shelter is always happy to get the cleaning supplies cos people don't think of that. We also donate old towels and blankets and even cut up pieces of rugs that they can make cat scratchers out of. Love your bowl, Cody, and you have good taste in food.

  19. Petcretary left big bag of treats, vitamins, and some food that we couldn't eat; at the 'spa' place because the vet that runs the 'spa' has a shelter called Froggie's Pond; a Sanctuary for Stray and Unwanted cats that have been diagnosed with FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and/or FIV (Feline AIDS). (Located in Battle Creek, MI). He just rebuilt it and it is really nice. Deserving of our help for sure, and we are glad someone looks after and loves those kitties.

All shelters are worthy of our help in any way:)
