Victims of Sandy...YOU KNOW You want to help, but how?

Hi every kitty, it's  Cody and I'm here to tell you how!  I just popped in because I know many of you are sad, as I am,  about the devastation that the monstrous storm Sandy caused to the East Coast and I know that there are TONS of you out there who want to help!

 The New York and  New Jersey area has a special place in Mom's heart because her parents were from Brooklyn, and Mom was born on Long Island. Mom still has cousins that live in New York and many blogging friends in the area.

My Mom and I donated to the Humane Society, the Red Cross and  to the
 Jewish Federation Sandy Relief Fund in N.J. and YOU can help too!

There are organizations EVERYWHERE with lists of where and how you can help. Before you donate be sure you are donating to a reputable organization!

One place to find a list is:

PETFINDER

Also from PetFinder:

And...I just heard this morning on THE TODAY SHOW that there is going to be a huge benefit concert FRIDAY NIGHT AT 8PM ET ON NBC....It is called
  "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together" It will feature New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, as well as artists such as,  Sting, Christina Aguilera, Billy Joel and many others! It will be hosted by Today's Matt Lauer,  Brian Williams and Jimmy Fallon will make appearances as well.

How ironic or prophetic that Bruce Springsteen recorded this song over 30 years ago?

Money collected from the benefit will be donated to the
  American Red Cross relief efforts

ALSO: Have YOU joined the Blogger Disaster Response Network? From BlogPaws: "The Blogger Disaster Response Network is the first of its kind. Members of this voluntary organization will be the first to be notified of a global disaster response effort through World Vets, and given all the information they need to help spread the word about how people can help."
Please don't think that something like this only happens to someone else. Sadly, it can happen to any of us. Every $1 helps!

Love, Cody

  3. That's very good information on where to find a reputable organization to donate to. It's terrible how some people will use such a tragedy to earn a quick buck.

  4. @The Furries you are exactly right, it is so sad. People prey on others at this time and it is awful.

  12. There are many big organizations with boots on the ground helping animals, including American Humane Association, ASPCA and HSUS. I hear PetSmart Charities is also involved. There are plenty of reputable groups who can put your dollars to good use!

  16. People should make sure the organizations they donate too are legit. So many bad peeps trying to make money outta disasters.

    Thanks for telling us about the special concert. Isn't it ironic the very boardwalk Bruce was singing about in Sandy was destroyed by Sandy. TW says she doesn't think she ever wants to hear that song again. Bet he opens with My City In Ruins. MOL

  17. Oh, it was a blessing in disguise that the Yankees DIDN'T get into the World Series. They'd still be waiting to play the games in da Bronx. Game 4 and 5 would've been rained out and they still couldn't hold them because if transportation issues. xoxo

  18. @CK funny you said that because I mentioned that to my husband. Everything happens for a reason! xoxoxo Glad you are all safe! Yep I knew that about Springsteen. Too strange. I know...I mentioned above for people to be careful, you are right. All the scumbags come out in disasters!

    @Nellie you are so sweet to give us that award! Thank you!! I left you a comment before I saw this! I think we had that award :( But we thank you sooo much! Funny you mentioned the iPad icon. I don't have an iPad but I am strongly considering getting the new mini which is on sale tomorrow at Best Buy. I have to give it some thought. I have a dumb question. What do I do with the iPad icon? (I know that was stupid but I don't know!)

    @Cat from Sydney soooo true!

    @Ann Paws you are welcome!

    @rumpy you are exactly right! That was just a partial list for people to begin with. Some people prefer donating to specific shelters in an area as well. I mentioned the Humane Society above. That is one of the ones that I donated to :)

  22. Cody, I'm sitting here in the dark draining my horded iPad charge, and I got to tell you, your post warmed my heart. My and mine will be ok. We'll get power back and the kids will go back to school. But some in the area need help. Their lives won't be put right by cleaning up the yard and turning on the power. Thanks for your post. It warmed the heart. Dorothy, Mistletoe and Hitch

  23. That is some mighty good information. We are going to check it all out. Those people up North really do need help. Great post. Take care.

  24. @Marg thanks so much. It is so sad. People sometimes forget if they are not directly affected that something doesn't exist. The photos of the devastation are just horrible.

    @alasandra you are welcome

    @Diane thank you!

    @Dorothy, Mistletoe and Hitch, your comment brought tears to my eyes. To be directly affected and have such an amazing attitude, you are wonderful. I know. I saw a 62 yr old woman crying on TV that she wants to "go home" but doesn't know where to go because there is no home to go to. You are right, just turning the power on won't solve problems for so many. I saw on TV they are going to try and find alternative housing for those that lost their homes. It is so sad. Thank you for sending me a kind word through your pain, you are incredible.

    @Rumblepurr Thank YOU! yes the internet makes so many things possible now that weren't before.

    @Cindi Lou and the Kitty Krew...aka Squirrel Queen you are welcome and thank YOU! I know you are HEAVILY involved in rescue throughout the entire year!

    @Spitty you and your human are wonderful xoxoxo
