Clean Off Your Desk Day

Hi furiends!! A year ago I posted the following blog post for National Clean Off Your Desk Day to show my Mom's disgusting work area.  At the end of this post I will share two photos to see if things have changed:

FROM 2018
Blogging Cat Wants to know: How Messy Is YOUR Desk?

Hi all it's Cody! Today I am so upset that I could just hiss!  Today is  Clean Off Your Desk Day.  It is a day where humans are supposed to get rid of all unnecessary clutter on their desks!!

I think a certain someone in MY house named "Mom" did NOT get the memo.  Dad and I are aggravated! Believe it or not, Mom and I HAVE an "office"....Dad keeps threatening to take it over, but Mom won't hear of it. It doesn't make sense because she NEVER uses it!
Ok, our office isn't   the best looking, it isn't modern, hip and happening, but it is FULL of all sorts of things that Mom loves and many that I love too!!!

Now...Mom hasn't worked in this office in so long that I probably cannot count that high. Instead, Mom has chosen to turn the dining room table into her "office." Furiends, I am telling you it is a DISASTER!!

Whenever I mention to Mom that WE need to get BACK in our office she tells me that she prefers the dining room table because she can see the TV AND it is close to the kitchen, (yeah, ok, we live in a mansion, NOT!!!  ANY room is close to the kitchen, and last time I looked, Mom needs to STAY OUT OF THE KITCHEN, unless of course, she is feeding ME!!)

When I mentioned to Mom that I am TRYING to understand her illogical reasoning, I start pleading with her to  at LEAST clean the dining room table  up, she just refers me to these fun photos she found on Pinterest to support her argument that HER desk dining room table,  is FINE!!

Ok Mom keep telling yourself that. Now, I am going to share the messy desk dining room table that YOU think is BETTER and we will have our furiends decide! Here you go, here is where Mom works (and where she forces ME to work too!)

I am thoroughly disgusted by that photo! So much so, that I had Mom take a quiz to PROVE to her that her mess is OUT OF CONTROL!!! Here are her results:

You haven’t seen your desktop in months and your workspace could use some TLC. Start by removing any unnecessary wrappers, papers and trash. Add an air freshener to get rid of foul smells. Label drawers and cabinets to help you stay organized. Consider relocating that old printer or bookcase that is rarely used, in exchange for a closed storage cabinet.

I rest my case! Now furiends do you think I should be subjected to working surrounded by junk, or in our designated office space as shown below

Let me know furiends, also, what is the area where YOU work like? Is it messy or tidy? This kitty wants to know!!!

In the meantime, I had better NOT let Mom see this!!

HERE ARE THE PHOTOS FROM JANUARY 2019......

Ok, so I will say it is maybe one teeny-tiny bit better than it was in 2018........but....did you notice the same jacket is STILL on the chair?????? Ok, so Mom HAS worn it since the original blog post was written, but seriously....use the closet Mom!!!!! And....move your rotund behind back into your office (which by the way furiends, happens to be a MESS right now! My cat toys are everywhere!)  It's appalling, simply appalling.
Love,

Cody

  1. I thought today was Dress Up Your Cat Day! My human's desk is a disaster area (and she doesn't even care!), so clearly she has never heard of the desk clean up holiday.

  2. My momma says her "desk" area is clean if her laptop can fit on it. And yeah, it are a tiny MacBook, MOL!

  3. I can brag about my desk! Apart from the monitor the only things on it are the mouse, a small calendar and a mat for my coffee mug. Look at the shelves below though and everything is thrown under with no organisation. The worktop to my left is similarly cluttered, but if I were to take a photo of the top of my desk it would look immaculate.

  4. We have an office and my mom loves to be in it. It is pretty organized except for one pile on the side of the desk. She often wants a TV in there, but has not put one in because for one, our walls are full of photos and awards, and for another, she wants to either work, or watch TV, and this forces her to choose. Good luck finding your dining room table ;)

  5. I think there are organized people and creative people. I would put myself in the creative group. :)

  6. If I clean off my desk, will I be able to go home? :-D

Actually, I took a workshop in November about organizing your office (desk, cubicle, whatever) so it works for you. The emphasis was on the different organizational needs of those who lean to left or right brain personality types. It was eye-opening! Cody, your mom is a creative type who probably needs to have things in visual sight (I'm guessing--lol). There are ways organize so that stuff is tidy and still easily accessible, but your mom would have to be motivated to take baby steps. LOL.

  7. Gosh Cody - at least your Mom is trying....looks neater now than it did then! My Mom's computer desk is pretty neat - actually her whole office is.....BUT she has an armoire that's full of "CRAP" so she has THAT to put all the messy stuff in which makes it LOOK like her office is neat! Her philosophy is "if you don't see it, it's not there". HAHAHA

  9. I get messy from time to time too and when I can't stand it any longer I clean things up. I'm not quite ready for cleaning though.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays because Cody asked me to.

Have a fabulous day, Caren. Scritches to the boys. ♥

  10. Am thinking about removing all desks from the house, so I cannot pile stuff on top of them! If there's no place to put it, maybe I'll actually put it AWAY?!? Hmmm...

  13. Your Mom and I have something common. My desk is a mess. However I know where stuff is. When I was a lot younger and my sisters were at home, my youngest sister got so upset she cleaned my desk every-now-and-then. Only problem was I couldn't find stuff after she cleaned. Love the images and quotes.

    1. Oh I know where everything is too! lol! That's what is so funny about your mess and my mess! We know where everything is! Thanks so much for your kind words too! Too funny about your youngest sister!

  14. My desk is fairly organized...here and when I worked. It used to drive me crazy when I'd come to work on Monday to find stacks...with note written in PhD hieroglyphics. If you have ever seen Big Bang Theory...I worked with the nicest and kindest Physicist and Chemists, but oh my goodness their organization skills were questionable

  16. Tell your mom not to feel bad. My dining room table is a catch all for everything :) XO

  17. Mum's desk is messy too. Sometimes more so than others.
If Julie can walk across it without sending something to the floor then it is pretty clean.Right now, it is sorta clean, but the general space(whole house) is not :/
We still love her though(she has the treats)
    MOL!

  18. most important thing is that the office is filled with stuff you love! I resolve every couple months to clean my desk and somehow it just gets all messy again!

  19. Indeed messy is the word of the day when it comes to workspaces. I have messy dining room table, messy computer desk, and messy writing desk. If I had another desk, it would be a messy one!

  20. My favorite thing to do is to clean at the start of the year - especially my work area! xo, Biana

  21. You call that a mess, Cody? You better not come over here. I haven't seen the top of any surface or chair in about 10 years. We work at Pop's desk and that only spot he doesn't have cluttered, TW has her planner and everything else she "needs" to work. TW got the same quiz answer your mom got and that mess isn't all her's. MOL!

  22. Our mom must be in the minority. She likes having a clean desk. She says it makes her think better.

  23. I binge watched the Marie Kondo organizing series on Netflix which you'd love. Hubby took over my office and its two desks since I stopped using it. I can't even sit at a table and prefer the sofa, armchair or best. Creative Mess is my middle name LOL

  24. I'm like your mom in that my office is FULL of things I love. Perhaps a little too full.

    1. MOL at "perhaps a little too full" I bet it looks waaay better than my Mom's does!

  25. I have an office too, but mostly work at my dining room table. I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive about neatness and order, but still my office is a disaster area! I do keep the dining room table mostly neat though, since I spend so much more time out there. Cody, you have no idea how much STUFF and PAPERWORK being a human involves!! I try to stay on top of it, but it's very difficult!

  26. My desk isn't exactly orderly, but fortunately it's not "messy," either. :)

  27. When I was in school (just about every grade and college) I always got in trouble because I had a "nice desk" and I preferred to sit on the floor and do my work. Eh. Whatever works. Your Mom's clearly doing a whole lot right!

  28. MOL your Mama sounds like our Pap except his office has a TV buts he still refuses to use it cause he likes da TV near the dining table in the living room better. (No one has ever eaten at dat table cause Pap has all his treasured belongings on it MOL ;) Mama works at her desk mostly but it is a organized mess her says!

  29. We found this very interesting! Our mommy has piles too but she tries to keep her desk clean since clutter makes her anxious. Yeah, she's a weird CPA type. Our home office only has her desk, four cat trees, Lexi's bed, four beds for us and a dozen scratchers! The floor may be cluttered but her desk isn't!

  30. Granny's desk is organized...a little...she can't work with a full desk, but when it is full with stuff that she needs (mostly books) she knows exactly where to find everything when she needs it. Thank you for being so supportive all the time. We appreciate it very much. Pawkisses for a Peaceful Day🐾😽💞
