Plea from the Cat: "Don't believe FAKE News from the Pet Sitter!!"

Last weekend my husband and I were attending a beautiful family wedding in Chicago. My dearest friend, Cheryl was pet sitting for Cody and Dakota as she has MANY times before, and she ALWAYS does a SUPERB job (Cody would disagree but she did a great job this time as well and we are blessed to have her!!) Saturday morning I called home to see how everything was going, and the second I heard Cheryl's voice I knew immediately that she was NOT happy.

The main NEWS was that Cody woke her up at FOUR IN THE MORNING. (In defense of Cody, that is my husband's fault entirely. When he substitute teaches he gets up at 4 am and feeds the boys. Yes, it is summer, and my husband doesn't substitute teach in the summer,  but because he is kind a pushover, Cody continues to wake him up at 4 am and my husband willingly feeds him then. How I don't always hear Cody is beyond me, but the times that I DO hear him he IS particularly insistent and his meow is UNREAL, Cheryl said she thought a screaming infant was in our home!)

The main problem is Cheryl had taken a muscle relaxer for an issue she was having, and was looking forward to sleeping in. In Cody's world, sleeping in IS NOT AN OPTION!!!

Cody is also used to receiving a number of snacks in the evening, (which are also my husband's fault!). When Cheryl didn't comply with Cody's self-imposed feeding schedule, or if she wasn't serving up food and/or treats with the speed that Cody felt that she should, he proceeded to knock a number of her personal items (which included her prescription glasses),  off of the dining room table. Cheryl said that virtually EVERY SINGLE TIME she approached the kitchen at ANY TIME of the day or night, Cody went in and sat by his bowl. He was relentless!!

When my husband and I returned home we found this note:

"Hi Caren and Lenny,
Everything went better (than the first night). Cody was a little mad at me because I wouldn't give him a bunch of food.  He will tell you I was mean but I wasn't LOL. Hope you had a good time, Dakota was awesome, he didn't complain at all. He was a trooper. Love, Cheryl"

CODY'S REBUTTAL: "I was a "little" mad? I was ENRAGED! I am used to my evening snack starting at 10 pm and the snacks continue every 15 minutes after that until 11 pm. OF COURSE "Sheltie Boy" was a trooper and didn't complain. He kisses up to everyone. I don't kiss up because I don't have to! I did tell Mom and Dad you were mean because when Mom and Dad are here I RULE. I love you Cheryl and so does Mom and Dad and Dakota, but YOU need to realize who is boss around here! I was simply doing what any self-respecting kitty would do. I RULE THIS HOUSE AND YOU NEED TO GET WITH THE PROGRAM!! "

So please, please do NOT feel bad!!! Everyone gets busy and we totally understand! xoxo

  6. It's the same thing around here. We dogs are well behaved and happy, the cats cause trouble for the pet sitter.

  13. LOL, you showed her who was boss!

  14. Well, Cody, that was an OUTRAGE of the first order. I think you should be rewarded for refraining from rendering her all bloody with your ten front needles and many very sharp teefs. If she can't stick with the Program, Food on Demand TM, then your Mom should FIRE HER right now and look for a better caretaker for you. Better yet, your Dad should always stay home with you. Why do Humans have to go do stuff anyway??

  16. So Cody ... your Mum and Dad left without leaving instructions to you sitter ?
    That's a real shame.
How can you survive without your evening treats ?
4 am is my favorite time to wake up my human. But it's not for food. It's for a big cuddle ! I have "à volonté" food.

  17. LOL!!! Oh Cody...you and Waffles sure have lot in common! Yesterday Glogirly was working outside, cutting down trees, digging in the rock-hard dirt. She was so tired and sore when she went to bed. She took a muscle relaxant and *planned* on sleeping in. 4:30 am, Waffles decided it was time for an extra early breakfast. You kitties...it's a good thing you're so incredibly cute!

  18. Everybody knows that cats rule the house. Do I have to get up at six am? No. Can I sleep through someone repeatedly patting my cheek and eyes with claws slightly extended? Nope.
(fortunately Rufus doesn't mind having his claws trimmed or I'd be in real trouble!)

  19. (sigh) Cody, us cats are totally on your side and we have our Daddy well trained. Our Mommy is mean and tells us to GO BACK TO SLEEP, that she isn't getting up at 3:30AM to feed us breakfast. And FENRIS TAKES HER SIDE. Fenris always takes her side and never complains about anything, really...

  20. Dear Cody, I think you need to update your list of requirements and have it prominently displayed where everyone can see, and no one can have any excuses for failing to comply!

  23. This is totally hilarious! Cody, good on you for sticking to your guns and putting your paw down! We agree with you, your schedule does not change! The Lady Cat is going to be on vacation in January for 5 weeks and leaving the Man Cat in charge. He keeps saying mean things like "When the lady is gone, no more treats at 11pm for you lot!" so we are not looking forward to that! I am also known to have a very demanding piercing meow like a baby!

  29. Cody you make me so proud to be a member of the Fine Feline Species. We do what we do because that is the proper way to do them. The two leggers need to adjust.
4am breakfast is purrfectly reasonable after all you need about 2 hours before your morning snack a 6 am. And Snack time is IMPAWTANT...must be like clock work

  42. Haha, I think if I need to hire a pet sitter, she will experience the same thing :) My cat always wake me up before 6 a.m for snacks, and he always has something on his bowl right before I go to bed. If he doesn't, he will meow till he gets what he wants :)

  43. I totally get you, Cody! That Miss Cheryl, though nice she very well may be, missed every direct clue you gave her. How more clear does a kitty need to be?! I guess you might have to paw up a contract fur her to sign before she takes the job next time! Like you, I expect a meal during the early am hour, too, but I don't always get served. That just means one more bottle or drinking glass that will be put to the gravity test and the alarm clock going off at random! Tee hee hee! Winks.
