#Sponsored Dinner for Two, Um....Make that THREE #NutrishPets

Rachael Ray Nutrish has sponsored this post, but all opinions are my own.

See the photo above? Notice something amiss? That's right, that is Cody practically sitting IN my salad. ON THE TABLE. NOTE:CODY IS NOT PERMITTED TO BE ON THE TABLE. I not only have created a battle every night, I have created a MONSTER. A FOOD MONSTER. A FOOD MONSTER WITH A HUNGER THAT WILL NOT BE DENIED.

It's all my fault. It truly is. I have no one to blame but myself. For most of Cody's life he had never tasted a table scrap, not a morsel. That changed a few months ago when I was making chicken and began getting nostalgic remembering how my first cat, Bobo used to LOVE chicken. I was sitting at the table eating dinner and talking to my husband, and against my better judgement, I called Cody over....THE FOOD MONSTER WAS BORN.
Yes, I am embarrassed to admit
when it is just my husband and I
(and Cody) eating dinner
our table IS that messy!!!

Now, every night seated at the kitchen table there is my husband, myself and Cody. Mind you, Cody  is NOT hungry when he makes his nightly appearance at dinner. He and Dakota are always fed before my husband and I. Cody gobbles up his usual Nutrish fare in his customary gluttonous fashion. Truth be told, INHALE would be a more appropriate description of Cody's eating style. When Cody finishes his dinner, he  is full, I KNOW he is full, but Cody seems to think that his main meal is just an appetizer, once he finishes HIS dinner, it's time to see what I am having!

WHO CAN EAT LIKE THIS?????

He's out of control. This scene is repeated each and every night like clockwork. I have gotten to the point that when I make dinner and am about to put it on the table, I tip-toe around the kitchen, stopping to periodically cast a glance over my shoulder to see if "He" knows I am going to sit down and eat. Often I don't say a word, I don't have to. KEY THE HORROR MOVIE MUSIC...HERE HE COMES....

It has gotten to the point that I can barely move my arm to cut my food (I eat with my left hand and cut my food with my right), I am too busy trying not to eat my cat along with my dinner. He is THAT close. Subtlety is NOT one of Cody's strong suits.

Picking him up and removing him from the table was useless, he would come right back. Then, one night I had an idea. I would make a barricade!!! A CODY BARRICADE!!! This would HAVE TO WORK!!

The pot featured in these photos
happens to be from the Rachael Ray line
I purchased that with myself

As you can see in the above collage, my "Cody Barricade" did NOT work! But...do you see the chair that is behind Cody? It only took me FOREVER to realize that if I moved that chair,  the FOOD MONSTER COULD BE DETERRED!!!!!! That is, until he gazes up at me staring relentlessly from the floor, and begins trying to crawl up my LEG to get to the "Promised Land", but that my friends is another story.......

So, tell me, do YOU have a FOOD MONSTER in your home? Is it YOUR fault that they became a monster as is the case with Cody? What quirky routine does YOUR pet do at dinnertime? I would love to know, it just might make me feel better!!!

  1. I don't see anything wrong here - Binga always is on the table when my human's boyfriend is eating, and often Boodie too. I am polite and I sit on the floor and wait to see if he has anything good to offer.

    1. That's what Kitty was always trying to tell Bear! You sit out of the way, but where they can't miss you ... and they'll be so thankful they aren't tripping over you that they'll fork over some of the good stuff. Has Bear learned this lesson? NO. He thinks if he's not IN YOUR FACE you'll forget he exists.

    2. It's the IN YOUR FACE that drives me crazy and Cody's latest, is trying to crawl up my leg with his fat self if he is on the floor!!! He is worse now than when he was young!

  2. Yes, It's always MOM's false !!! MOL
My pawrents doesn't like to eat dinner at dinning table. They like a human teen...No discipline ! they eat in front of computer or eat out because in Thailand. Eat Out is not pricey. So I always use the dinning table as a bed. because it's good location, then mom put my bed there. And now they start to use dining table ! what da ? ... but I surprise them. Once they have dinner there, I walk away.. Human food ? Not interested.... YET ! ..ha..ha

    1. Puddy!! I am rather surprised to hear this! You won't even beg if they have prawns????? I sometimes eat at the computer (but I try not to), we pretty much eat at the table every night, maybe we need to change that lol xoxo

  3. That salad looks awfully yummy to this biped! :-)

Since I seldom sit down long enough to eat properly (usually eating something standing at the kitchen counter or sometimes while perched on the edge of the couch), the boys are pretty good. They'll come to sniff, but most human foods don't tempt them. I don't want them in my face while I'm eating, though -- there, I admit it. LOL.

  4. The humans try to make us stay off the table when they are eating, but Newton doesn't understand the difference between sitting on the windowsill next to the kitchen table and standing on the table... except that the view is a lot better from the table.

  5. I really am not a food monster....although I do go to the table and sit by Mom's leg until I get a quick sniff of whatever they're having for dinner. If I'm "interested" in it she MIGHT give me a tiny taste but after that I leave. I don't sit there and beg for more - I just want a SAMPLE!

  6. No food monsters here. The mom doesn't give us people food very often so we're not interested in it when the peeps have dinner. Though sometimes one of us will jump on the table...just to keep them company...and that is a no-no.

    1. I never used to give Cody people food at all, that was my HUGE mistake too! Jumping on the table is a "no-no" here too, but you would never know it!

  7. Only my Binx eats people food. If you don't give him some, he takes it.

  8. Oh Cody! I'm thinking that your humans and you and your brofur Dakota need to all eat at the same time! That way, you are munching your food, and staying away from their dinner!

  9. Pup Astrid is probably the only true mooch, especially if she smells me eating peanut butter or beef. Or ice cream - the girl adores ice cream. Luckily, though, she isn't too bad (unless you have ice cream, in which case she tries to get all up in your face). She might come over and lie down next to me during some meals, but other times she completely ignores me while I eat. And (except in the case of ice cream) if she does come over, she knows to obey her "stay back" and "lay down" commands while I eat.

As for the kitties, the only mooch is my boy Evan. It's weird, though, because it just happened one day without my even giving him anything. Being paralyzed, he can't get on the counter or table to inspect my plate or beg. Instead, he just one day started coming into the kitchen when I cook or bake, and now every time I do he follows me around, rubs my legs, grabs my pant legs, tries to pull himself up my legs, screams and hollers for me to show him what I have. I eventually learned that all he wants is butter. That's it. There's pretty much no other human food that he'll even consider tasting. So, if I offer him a little lick of butter, he'll eat that up and then usually be on his merry way.

    1. OMG Astrid is soooo cute!!!!!!! Love that she loves ice cream so much! Do you believe Dakota has NEVER had "human" ice cream? I should let him try it. Yep, Cody does the "in your face" thing which is what drives me crazy. Too adorable about Evan! He is like Cody trying to pull himself up my leg...maybe I should give him butter? lol

  14. We only get in the way if our silly humans try to eat at the computer. If they eat at the table/breakfast bar, we know we aren't allowed up there, so don't try. But the computer desk is not off limits!

  21. Well Cody sure does look cute. But, alas, no food monsters here. Me does luv a pepperoni pizza, but we don't get those very offen. Da last one we had me thinks was fanksgivin' last year. But don't feel bad, mommy might have food mosters ifin she ate more. But since mommy doesn't have money fur peeps food then she really doesn't eat very offen and our food is much better than a slice of bread or or cob of corn, so we aren't really innerested in whatever she might have. Me does like Apple Zings, but mommy hasn't had any of those in over a year, so me doesn't really member them. Good luck with your food monster.

    Luv ya'

    1. Thank you!!! Mom can resist my face often! MOL!!!! Yeah, Dakota isn't allowed in the kitchen because that is where I eat and our kitchen is so small. Mom is paranoid that his long fur will catch on fire from the oven. If he WERE allowed in there, he would join me for sure! Love, Cody

  26. Obviously Cody needs to come visit US and take some lessons. We can jump on the table from the floor, who needs chairs. And Yin, is the champion jumper in our house her and Yang can jump all the way from the floor to the cut out so they can go steal Socks' food. Mommy doesn't play fair though she has a squirt bottle on the table. Chimera does the best at stealing food cause she is little enough to jump in Mommy's lap and sneak the food right off her plate without being noticed . Oh and in case you thing the doggies are innocent Tuiren jumped on the table once and stole the peoples supper. They were very cross. Fenris is the only one of us who isn't a food monster. Can you believe he dropped a pizza he found in the street when Mommy told him too?

    1. You are right he sure does!!! Wait til we tell Dakota that even Tuiren jumped on the table!!! Fenris is a good doggy!!!! Cody has to learn how to jump better!

  28. LOL! Rosie has terrible table manners and almost always jumps up on the table. She has been known to try and steal half a grilled cheese sandwich right off my daughter's plate. It's become so bad that sometimes she has a time out in the bedroom during our dinner.

  29. How can you possibly resist Cody's handsome (and adorable) food monster face???

We're lucky that Gracie and Zoe are happy once they've been fed. Oh, but they can hear a can of tuna being opened from upstairs at the other end of the house. And they do come running. MOL.

Moosey used to appear out of thin air in the kitchen when we were making salad. Lettuce was his fave treat. So he was a lettuce-eating monster, I guess. :)

    Hugs!

We miss Moosey :( (((hugs)))

  40. This is the funniest post! I suspected we'd have trouble with Rufus at the table. He doesn't seem to understand "NO". Fortunately whoever had him for his first year, must have taught him very firmly not to beg. He has a box on the kitchen Island - not very decorative - from which he likes to watch us cooking and eating. We don't offer him any people food because I know we'd never have any peace again!
