Cat Shaming: Or "If you don't stop whining you will end up on video"

Thursday night I was aggravated while in the process of deleting 100 spam comments (yes, 100) from blog posts, and Cody was frustrated because I wasn't moving fast enough to begin giving him his "evening snack buffet."

You see, Cody starts whining at 10pm in preparation for when  he gets some Lean Treats. Then, after about 15 more minutes he starts whining again, RELENTLESSLY in preparation for his 11pm snack of Nutrish for Cats kibble, (believe it or not, he is on a diet, he now gets two snacks instead of one every 15 minutes from 10pm til 11pm).

Last night, he wouldn't stop and he was literally on my last nerve. I told him, "If you don't stop I am going to put you on video." knowing that when he sees the camera he normally takes off...not this time! (Please excuse my thumb in the upper right corner and the shoes on the floor, this was an impromptu video and I didn't have a chance to move the objects).

  1. Spitty says: Oh Cody, that is the most pitiful sound I have ever heard. Your Mommy is an OGRE. How could she resist that plaintive cry? Those sad eyes? That frantic, lonely, desperate pacing? *I* would have given you anything you wanted--100 treats!

The Human says: Stuff a sock in it, Bud.

  2. My momma are da same way - she ignores my pathetical cries for more food, sayin I just ate 15 minutes ago. I'm hungry AGAIN!

  3. Pipo does just that, too, he can drive a peep nuts with his begging...but he doesn't want treats, he wants me to play 'wand toy' with him...all day long, and fur sure any time I sit at my desk
He not only mrouws and chirps, he paws at me...not too pushy...
...sheesh, I created a monster cause a while ago, I got out the wand toy at my desk and he decided that was what he wants to do when I have to do things on the confuser...no wonder I sit there 3 times longer than needed, MOL!

  7. We sometimes have to ask for treats too.
We send Julie to hound Mom for them.
    Mom caves.
WE agree with the others, your cries are pitiful.
Hope you got your treats right away!

  10. Cute video.....Sam gets really wound up at night. Whining/pacing back and forth/asking to go out on the front porch every three seconds.....it's aggravating but I'm used to it. Makes it tough to settle down and RELAX with a good TV program because I'm up and down and up and down but hey.....I suppose in the end, I'm just an old softie when it comes to him (and he knows it!).

    Hugs, Pam

  11. The plaintive cry, the rear-of-disrespect, the slightly raised paw, the head-shake, the return to focus -- it's all there. A perfect 10. No shame! Nice try Caren! https://catself.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/have-you-no-shame/

  12. Cody you are adorable on video and have a lot in common with my Peaches - I can tell you're a cat with a lot of confidence to be so expressive! While Paprika is a little lady and silent, Peaches cannot get over herself and meows musically like you with great variety. We like that you get 2 feedings, is it perhaps that you eat your food fast? No, Not you...!

    1. Thank you so much!!! Oh Yes I am a SUPER confident cat!! As a matter of fact, when Mom adopted me and I had my first Vet visit (at about 10 wks old) the Vet said, "this guy is FEARLESS" he said it would either be a "really GOOD thing, or a really BAD thing" thankfully, it is a GOOD thing, most of the time! But yes, I am a super confident kitty!! Oh, that wasn't a scheduled "feeding", those were SNACKS and yes I eat too fast so Mom puts treats in my treat ball. I get breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 or 3 snacks at night. No wonder I am fat! MOL MOL MOL!! But...I'm not allowed to "free feed" Love, Cody

  14. Cat bro Bert follows Mom around and yells, and it that doesn't work he goes in the half bath and shreds toilet paper. Evidently, for him it is like a human popping bubble wrap - a stress reliever!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bert is EXACTLY like Cody. What I didn't mention, is that during the day when this doesn't work, Cody takes to his cat tree and starts chewing on the leaves (he can't eat them but he knows it aggravates me and it makes his mouth get a lump on it).......and then he will try and eat plastic, paper, envelopes, anything he can find to get me moving. They are exactly alike!!!

  15. That is some adorable cat shamming, though. Great job, Cody! You certainly got your mom's attention, so job well done indeed. Purrs!

  16. Cat shaming?! More like human shaming...for ignoring that sweet face and plaintive voice, for starving him!

  17. Oh my! Well, that certainly caused a stir at our house! I played the video and Jazmine came running to meet Cody! She meowed back at him and scratched at the screen to get at him. Kizmet (her alleged true love) caught wind of it and was livid! He swatted at Jazmine to get away from the computer!!

  18. Oh that is so like our house. Especially Split, who is always begging for food while I am on the compter and she has that loud get on nerves meow. Cody, you must have been sooooo hungry to allow a video but we are glad that you did since it was fun seeing you politely ask for some food and now please.

  19. Cody, I totally understand. I do that all the time when I don't get my food fast enough. Humans need to know when us cats want to eat...we want to eat!

  22. Cody these humans can be impawsible! If I lived close, I'd come over, paw myself in and get the treats for you! Or, bark really loud until your human gives them to you. Paws to You! Noah, from the Dogs Paw!

  23. LOL.. I did the same thing to Muffin once. She whines a lot as well..

  24. Cody we think you are a real gentleman asking for treats...Pooh gets in Mumsy's face and tickles her nose with her tail if she doesn't pay attention to her meows. We hope you got extra treats when you finally got them. Hugs and nose kisses

    1. Ok, Ok! This is the "Mom" I have to defend myself!!! lol!!! Cody DID get treats...his "evening snack" STARTS with Lean Treats at approx 10pm.......he will whine from 9:30 til 10 til he gets them. Once he gets them he IMMEDIATELY starts whining AGAIN for his 11PM "snack" that he gets in his "Bat-a-Rat"........he used to have snacks practically every 15 min from 10 til 11pm (Daddy's fault)....the Vet wants him to lose approx a lb, he is TOO FAT.......while his meow IS "cute"...it isn't cute when it goes on and on and gets far more desperate as time goes on which this video doesn't convey lol!!!!!!! Trust me, he isn't deprived!

  33. Awww he is so cute when he does it and it's not really too annoying. My human sisfir's cat used to really meow - loud. He'd start in about 2 hours before his snack or meal was due - and he was overweight. Cody, you are a cutie. Sorry for the spammers. You really wonder what they are accomplishing except for ticking us off that have blogs. I wouldn't buy their product if it was the last one on earth to buy.

    1. Mario he IS cute for a few minutes lol....Cody DOES start WAY before a meal or snacks...if it were just a few minutes but trust me, he goes on and on and on! Thanks about the spam, it was a comment each on 100 of my posts and they had a laundry list of links.........I get hit occasionally, hadn't been hit in months but they got me this time!

  34. That is the most pitiful request I have ever heard. He's adorable. Aimee, as a Chartreux, has a silent meow. I get the full range of expressions playing across her face (She has "Poor, Pitiful Pearl" down pat LOL) but, thankfully, I don't hear it or I'd spend every day in migraine. Please kiss him for me. I love him!

    1. I have to admit, playing it back it IS "pitiful", it's just hearing it numerous times a day! You "get" it! lol!! I just love Aimee's name and I would LOVE those facial expressions!!! I will for sure give him a kiss from you and please give Aimee one from me too!!!!!

  36. Oh Cody, how can your mum ignore that pitiful meow? I don't ask for treats, in fact I get offered them to try and encourage me to eat. I do drive my mum crazy though when I go out and check the garden perimeter about 10 times a day, and I yowl at the top of my voice all the way round. Well I do have to let any strange cats within 50 miles know that it is my property!

  37. Cody, now you have proof of this horrid treatment! ;)

  38. In our family BobbieSue and Simon are the talkers. They just go on and on till mom does what they want. My methods are more subtle. Since she's usually at the desk, I sit right in front of her, with my face right where she is looking. If she moves her head I move my head. And if that doesn't do the trick I start touching her face, pads first then claws just barely out. Usually by the time the claw come out shes fed up with me and does what I want. If she would just do it when I first ask, I wouldn't have to go through so much trouble!! Love, Toby

  41. I'm not a very talkative kitty, so my humans always like it when I talk to them. But I could see how whining would not be appreciated, even though you're just trying to say that you're famished and the treats are really tasty.
As for those shoes....you mean you live in your house? ;- No worries - we all have stuff that ends up in the cat photos.

  43. Oh Cody is not NEARLY as loud or pitiful as I am EVERY time Mom goes into the kitchen. I have a new "precious" in the cupboard and want it out to be played with, but it is on a wire so Mom must play with me. I start from the moment she hits the kitchen until she leaves, non-stop. Mom even gave me one of the schmousies that come with it (which I lost), but I still cry for it constantly.

  44. He is adorable! Mine start fighting with each other at snack time. It's their ploy to get my attention so I will feed them. Bad kitties.

  45. Poor Cody! Our Mom and Dad start meowing back at us when we do that. Full on conversations, for like 10 minutes! Sheesh!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not a lot of that goes on at our house. When our food is late, we use the stare down technique. That usually works.

    ReplyDelete
  47. That is one cute little meow!
Not at all like mine I just go on and on and on and it's more like screaming according to the humans...
But hey, that's my job, I'm a cat.
