Cat And Sheltie At Play?-video

Yes! This actually IS play! I love this video! If you come into our home on any given day you will see nearly the same scenario acted out numerous times a day. The main differences are that our Sheltie doesn't snort like a pig and our cat is gray, oh and our Sheltie isn't permitted in the kitchen. Other than that, this is a "day in the life" at our house too!!

Was so happy to find this because it leads me to think that our cat and dog are at least SOMEWHAT normal (which is open to debate).

Notice how the cat in the video lays down in a submissive position to the Sheltie. This has always baffled me because our cat does the same. Anyone know why cats do this? Would love to hear from you! (keep it nice or your comment will "magically" disappear!)

Enjoy!
Meowy Monday All!

  1. I LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing; orange kitty saying; oh please, I want to be alone; while sheltie can't wait to play! Hysterical!

  2. @Honeybell, thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment! I have to video my Sheltie and cat one of these days if I can ever figure out how to do it on my phone. They play almost identical to this, I agree, it is hysterical!!

  3. DEAR LORD! That's one playful Sheltie and one tolerant cat! That's comparable to a bratty younger brother or sister bugging you when you don't want them to, but you're not allowed to be mean to them. Too funny! Rose

  4. @Rose, love your analogy!!! Yep you are exactly right! I always tell my husband that he should consider himself lucky that we, also have an extremely tolerant cat!!! Our cat just stares at our Sheltie in snide amusement when he acts like the Sheltie in the video, then when our Sheltie has expended all of his energy our cat side swipes/ambushes him!! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!

  5. Interesting when the second sheltie came in and said, "hey what about me"? or was that. "Come on guys, stop the rough housing. "?

  6. @Kokoro lol!!!!! I think it was the latter "Come on guys, stop the rough housing!!" Thanks for reading and commenting!

  7. Caren, your shelties are so beautiful! Is one of them Dakota? The kitty is so patient and brave too. I wonder how it would be if Eva was there, would she play with the kitty or chase after it. Eva always acts fierce whenever she comes across our neighbours' kitties and they always ignore her if they see her in the garden. I really enjoy the video. Thanks for sharing.

  8. @Priscilla, hi! Actually those are not my Shelties and that isn't my cat! lol. I just found that video and posted it because Dakota plays with our Cody in a very similar way (only like I said he doesn't grunt like a pig lol). Dakota lived with cats and Cody lived with dogs. When we got Dakota he and Cody were the same age and I think that helps with how they "play". He chases Cody sometimes but basically the video shows how they "play" and he will "kiss" Cody like the dog in the video did. Dakota acts "fierce" with the chihuahua that lives across the hall then when he is face to face with it he is afraid lol. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

  10. Haha - love the video! I have been dog sitting my parents dog for a week, I wish Janit had been as patient and tolerant as that cat...

  12. It was very interesting to see the interaction between the two animals. The dog looked like he was enjoying himself a little more than the cat. I noticed their locking noses sniffing at each other. I heard that is a social action when they do that. Very cool video. Thanks for posting. Maybe I'll show it to my cat Sophie later. ;)

  13. @Dawn lol! Yep and that is how our Sheltie acts too. I still don't know why the cat in the video and my cat always lays down in a submissive "come and get me big boy" pose when they play. Can't figure it out.
"Sniffing" each other?? Nooooooo, don'tcha know they were "kissing"!!!! lol. Kitty kisses to Sophie!
